State of the Commonwealth Reports

In this chapter, we survey the performance of Virginia’s metropolitan areas this decade. We first discuss population trends and the demographic challenges facing metro areas. We then delve into measures of economic activity, including taxable sales and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). We also discuss labor markets in each metro area. We conclude with thoughts about how Virginia can foster growth across its metropolitan areas.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมการสื่อสารของแฟนคลับกลุ่มมัมหมีของ Butterbear เป็นอย่างไร และบทบาทของแฟนคลับกลุ่มมัมหมีของ Butterbear เป็นอย่างไร โดยใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ (Qualitative Research) โดยใช้วิธีการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก (In-dept Interview) แฟนคลับของ Butterbear สัญชาติไทย ที่มีลักษณะเป็นมัมหมี จำนวน 12 คน ในช่วงเดือนมิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2568 ผลการวิจัยพบว่ากลุ่มแฟนคลับมัมหมีของมาสคอต Butterbear ใช้วิธีโซเชียลมีเดียเป็นช่องทางหลักในการสื่อสาร โดยแพลตฟอร์มสำคัญ ได้แก่ TikTok, Openchat และการแสดงออกบนพื้นที่ทางกายภาพ เพื่อการแสดงอัตลักษณ์ เพื่อการสื่อสารระหว่างแฟนคลับมัมหมีและ Butterbear และเพื่อสร้างและธำรงวัฒนธรรมแฟนคลับ นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่าความลึกซึ้งในการตีความ Butterbear ของแฟนคลับในแต่ละกลุ่มจะมีความแตกต่างกัน ขึ้นอยู่กับการเปิดรับ Butterbear ในรูปแบบต่างๆ ตามความต้องการส่วนบุคคลที่ยังขาดหายในชีวิตของแต่ละคน แฟนคลับกลุ่มมัมหมีไม่ได้มองคาแรกเตอร์ของ Butterbear เป็นเพียงแค่คาแรกเตอร์ทั่วไป แต่ยังมองลึกไปถึงความเป็นมนุษย์ของบุคคลผู้สวมบทบาท Butterbear

The Roles Of Inward Fdi On Environmental Quality In Asian Countries, Onpreeya Kunthong

This study investigates the impact of inward foreign direct investment (FDI) on environmental quality across 31 Asian countries from 1990 to 2020. These countries are categorized into three income groups: 14 lower-middle income, 10 upper-middle income, and 7 high-income countries. Environmental quality is assessed using two key indicators—carbon dioxide (CO₂) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions. To capture both the short- and long-run dynamics, the research uses the panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) technique within the STIRPAT (Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence, and Technology) model framework. งานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาถึงสถานการณ์และคุณลักษณะของผู้ประกาศข่าวที่มีทักษะการสื่อสารเชิงอารมณ์ และแนวทางการสร้างกระบวนการฝึกอบรมเพื่อพัฒนาทักษะดังกล่าวสำหรับผู้ประกาศข่าวประเภทรายการเล่าข่าว โดยใช้วิธีการเชิงปฏิบัติการ ด้วยการวิเคราะห์เอกสารและงานวิจัยเพื่อสร้างเครื่องมือสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกกับผู้ประกาศข่าวประเภทรายการเล่าข่าว จำนวน 6 ท่าน จากนั้นนำข้อมูลจากการสัมภาษณ์มาวิเคราะห์ร่วมกับเอกสารและงานวิจัยเพื่อสังเคราะห์เป็นแนวทางกระบวนการฝึกอบรม ผ่านการตรวจสอบความตรงและความเที่ยงโดยผู้เชี่ยวชาญ 3 ท่าน ก่อนนำไปฝึกอบรมจริงกับกลุ่มผู้ประกาศข่าว จำนวน 7 คน ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ 3 ประเด็นดังนี้ ประเด็นที่ 1 ลักษณะสถานการณ์ที่จำเป็นต้องมีทักษะการสื่อสารเชิงอารมณ์ ดังนี้ 1) อ่านข่าวที่มีเนื้อหาสะเทือนใจเกี่ยวกับเด็ก 2) ทราบข่าวร้ายกะทันหัน 3) หยุดหัวเราะไม่ได้ และ 4) อ่านข่าวที่มีเนื้อหาความรุนแรง ประเด็นที่ 2 คุณลักษณะของผู้ประกาศข่าวที่มีทักษะการสื่อสารเชิงอารมณ์ ดังนี้ 1) มีสติ 2) สลัดทิ้งสิ่งที่วิตกกังวลได้ทันที 3) มีทีมเวิร์ค 4) เปลี่ยนความสนใจที่รบกวนให้มาอยู่กับตัวเองแทน ประเด็นที่ 3 แนวทางการสร้างกระบวนการฝึกอบรมเพื่อพัฒนาทักษะการสื่อสารเชิงอารมณ์ของผู้ประกาศข่าวประเภทรายการเล่าข่าว ในส่วนนี้ผู้วิจัยนำผลของคำถามนำวิจัยข้อที่ 1 และคำถามนำวิจัยข้อที่ 2 มาสังเคราะห์ด้วย “รูปแบบกระบวนการฝึกอบรม” โดยนำ “แนวคิดจิตตปัญญาศึกษา” มาเป็นรากฐานของหลักสูตร ออกแบบการจัดฝึกอบรมด้วย “แนวคิดการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้กิจกรรมเป็นฐาน” และ “แนวคิดสื่อสารการแสดง” จนนำมาสู่ 9 หัวข้อกิจกรรม โดยผลประเมินการอบรมจากแนวทางดังกล่าวพบว่า ผู้เข้าร่วมอบรมมีทักษะการสื่อสารเชิงอารมณ์ที่ดีขึ้น มีสมาธิ แก้ปัญหาเฉพาะหน้าได้อย่างไหลลื่น สามารถรับรู้บุคลิกภาพการสื่อสารของตนเอง รวมถึงสามารถจัดการอารมณ์ความเครียดที่เกิดจากการเล่าข่าวประจำวัน

The Social Science Research Center (SSRC) at Old Dominion University (ODU) has compiled the results from the 15th annual Life in Hampton Roads (LIHR) survey. The purpose of the survey was to gain insight into residents’ perceptions of the quality of life in Hampton Roads. A total of 640 telephone surveys were completed between June 4 and August 16, 2024. These interviews were conducted via telephone, as they were in the past, except for 2020 and 2021. Three-fifths of respondents rated the quality of life in the region as excellent or good (60.1%). Existing research indicates that extraversion is positively correlated with high levels of self-disclosure (Tang et al., 2022; Loiacono et al., 2012), while research on extraversion in online contexts suggests that extraversion is negatively correlated with self-disclosure (D’Agata et al., 2021; Caci et al., 2019). However, introversion influences low levels of self-disclosure in offline friendships (Battle et al., 2024). Self-disclosure reciprocity refers to the process where a person shares personal information in response to another’s disclosure, matching both in depth and level of intimacy (Derlega et al., 1973). The pandemic adversely affected the employment of child caregivers, exacerbating already existing inequalities. The authors offer an integrated framework that considers the interdependencies between unpaid and paid child caregiving and the construction of the childcare sector as a devalued and fractionalized group. The authors outline the prepandemic positioning of mothers, childcare teachers, preschool teachers, and primary school teachers. Then, using cross-sectional and panel data from the Current Population Survey, the authors describe how the pandemic affected these four groups of child caregivers’ employment between January 2018 and December 2022. What are the most constructive emotions to evoke in climate change communication for diverse groups of people in a way that encourages pro-environmental behavior? A specific communication style and subsequent emotional response may best mobilize people interested in efforts to address climate change compared to people who are less invested in the issue. In this study, 927 valid participants surveyed were randomly assigned to one of three groups: a “fear” condition, a “hope” condition, and a control condition. Prostitution legislation has re-emerged in public and academic discourse in recent decades after relative silence on the issue since the mid-twentieth century, spurred by Sweden’s adoption of prostitution decriminalization - the first known legislation criminalizing the buyers of sex (rather than the sellers) to be actualized in legislation. Sexual orientation and gender minority groups experience trauma at higher rates than their heterosexual peers (Brown & Pantalone, 2011). Additionally, studies of sexual minority individuals have shown that they experience more severe posttraumatic stress relative to heterosexual counterparts (Roberts et al., 2010). To date, efforts to explain these disparities have centered on: (1) trauma theories concerned with characteristics of the individual or their relation to the perpetrator or (2) the broader repercussions of discrimination, stigmatization, and oppression on sexual minorities. There have been countless studies in recent years exploring the hidden causes of why an estimated 40% of students experience food insecurity as of 2022. This paper details a research study evaluating AI's ability to perform qualitative deductive coding. Multiple AI models were utilized and compared against three human coders and one expert coder. A series of 107 statements were sourced from a group discussion for a qualitative impact assessment of an organization. The AI models were provided these statements and directed to code them using the Community Capitals Framework. Two generations of AI models were evaluated. Overall, the AI achieved a fair level of agreement with the human annotators, but the alignment was far from perfect. Newer AI models did not increase agreement with …

This paper continues research that evaluates the capacity of artificial intelligence (AI) to perform qualitative coding tasks. The previous study found that AI models lacked consistency with themselves and did not agree with human coded data. Since that study, AI’s general level of intelligence has increased. Hence, this study re-evaluates how well the newest set of AI models (Claude 3 and Gemini) can perform qualitative coding tasks. Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the perceptions of communication sciences and disorders (CSD) assistant professors in the United States related to barriers and facilitators to engaging in open science (OS) practices and identify opportunities for improving OS training and support in the field.

Method: Thirty-five assistant professors (16 from very high research activity (R1) institutions, 19 from institutions with other Carnegie classifications) participated in one 1-hour virtual focus group conducted via Zoom recording technology. The researchers used a conventional content analysis approach to analyze the focus group data and develop categories from the discussions.
