Gendered, classed, and racialized bodies differentially experience state-sanctioned violence and societal norms. Body protests — when the body manifests the political messages by drawing attention to itself — manifest in these intersections. Women engaging in body protests garner more attention; a body that is sexualized, controlled, and subjugated draws attention to itself as a political act. To understand this, I ask, what explains the specific tactics that women employ in acts of political resistance? The Shea tree holds significance in the socio-ecological landscape of northern Ghana. With the escalating impacts of climate change, the diminishing presence of Shea trees has emerged as a significant concern. From a feminist political ecology standpoint, this research focuses on understanding the factors contributing to this decline in the Upper West Region of Ghana and the adaptation and mitigation strategies women propose to address the decline. Findings from eight (8) Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) reveal an interaction between anthropogenic activities like illegal logging, mechanized farming, and recurrent bushfires and climate-related factors such as heightened prevalence of pests and diseases …

Anecdotally, paddlesports (canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and rafting) are seen as safe sports, though prior to this report little evidence was available to support this view in an Irish context. This report provides a summary of a research project exploring safety practices in Irish paddlesports. It includes the aim, objectives, research methodology, findings, and recommendations. Discussions early in the research process about how to investigate safety practices in Irish paddlesports brought a number of objectives into focus. It was agreed to compile empirical evidence on current safety practices across Irish paddlesports and to determine what, if any, additional supports may …

The field of evaluation has been predominantly driven by Euro-Western perspectives, a result of their dominance in economic, geopolitical, and intellectual realms. This has led most evaluation approaches to be deeply rooted in Western worldviews. To avoid becoming instruments of neocolonialism, more decolonizing evaluation practices are necessary, emphasizing the needs of communities over the interests of donors. However, the field has a limited understanding of how decolonizing evaluation is being practiced and what the consequences are. That Dermestes maculatus feeding can leave marks on bones is established in the literature - that D. maculatus routinely mark bones is not. Our results here, exposing fleshed bones to D. maculatus adults and immatures for almost two months after complete tissue removal, indicate that under natural conditions D. maculatus do not feed on bones. The key issue seems to be the ability of D. maculatus to seek new food sources versus being confined (and eventually starving) on bones. The urgency for studying Latin America and the Caribbean(LAC) emanates from violence rates that are remarkably higher than in most world regions. Global homicide rates have recently declined (Rogers & Pridemore, 2018; Tuttle et al., 2018). While LAC followed suit, its rates are still comparatively high, and it is home to less than 10% of the global population but about one-third of homicides. The World Health Organization defines violence as endemic if a nation reaches ten homicides per 100,000 residents. Over two-thirds of LAC, nations meet this threshold (World Health Organization, 2023), and the regional mean is above 10. The …

This Qualtrics-based survey was used to explore the AI-related policies of LIS journals and various journal support mechanisms about AI (e.g., AI detection tools, peer reviewer guidelines, copyediting processes, and more), as well as EIC perspectives and attitudes toward generative AI within the context of scholarly publishing. In early summer 2024, researchers shared the survey with select top-tier journal editors in the library science field. This study introduces an innovative methodology for assessing and redesigning library spaces through structured virtual field trips. Researchers from the University at Albany developed a systematic approach using design thinking principles to conduct remote visits of leading academic libraries across the United States. The investigation identified significant trends in academic library design, which researchers then used to survey their student population. The subsequent campus survey revealed that UAlbany students' top preferences were: 25% prioritized quiet study spaces, 22% valued diverse seating options, 18% emphasized accessible power infrastructure, and 15% desired outdoor study areas. This qualitative study explored the experiences and perceptions of Black principals regarding the influence of politically conservative efforts on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives; critical race theory (CRT); and curriculum related to slavery in K–12 schools. The study was grounded in the increasing politicization of education, particularly as it pertained to race and identity, and examined how Black school leaders navigate these pressures. A review of the literature revealed the persistent challenges faced by Black principals, including racial discrimination, professional isolation, and a lack of support systems, compounded by the rise of conservative ideologies in education. This article reports on findings of an online survey on academic instruction librarians’ conceptions and experiences of teacher agency in the context of their instruction work and, more specifically, on their affective orientations (positive, ambivalent, or negative emotions and feelings) toward teacher agency. Two key dimensions of participants’ conceptions of teacher agency are evident throughout this analysis: 1) views of teacher agency as an individual experience of autonomy (individual agency) and/or views of it as more relational and interactive (and thus potentially collective), and 2) beliefs about the feasibility of librarians’ teacher agency, given librarians’ roles and positions as educators. …
