Throughout 2019 and 2020 the American University in Cairo (AUC) celebrated the centennial of its founding, supported extensively by AUC’s University Archives. This paper explores the opportunities that emerge for an archives playing the role of shaper of identity and memory when its parent organization reaches a major milestone, but also the challenges involved in such a commemoration. Purpose: The aim of this article was to identify differences in the emotional tone of verbal messages published on the Facebook accounts of selected companies within the fashion industry, focusing on organizations with an active presence on this platform.

Design/methodology/approach: The sentiment analysis was conducted using the CLARIN software suite. Over a three-month period in 2023, companies’ posts and users’ comments were collected and analyzed. Sentiments were categorized into six groups: ambiguous statements, strong and weak negative statements, strong and weak positive statements, and neutral statements. Three survey experiments examined the effect of cues describing a target’s socioeconomic status (SES) on participants’ judgements after the target transgressed the social norm of punctuality. Hypotheses were formulated based on Fiske’s (2018) stereotype content model. In Study 1 (N = 243) participants were randomly assigned to read a vignette describing a gender ambiguous student as low-SES (versus high-SES) arriving late to an exam and then judged the tardy student. Judges showed more leniency when the student was described as low-SES than high-SES. In Study 2 (N = 40), the target was a male job applicant arriving late …

The scholarship surrounding fin de siècle Vienna contains many cultural and intellectual cornerstones that are lauded even to this day. All participating in the Viennese coffeehouse culture of the time, artists like Gustav Klimt, musicians like Gustav Mahler, psychologists like Sigmund Freud, and authors like Arthur Schnitzler shaped their respective disciplines significantly. The social network for how these intellectuals and many others interacted is very complex. This study analyzes and maps the interactions of dozens of individuals from early 20th-century Vienna to pinpoint the social center of this culture. Based on the two-step flow model, this study examines how social media influencers manage brands through three aspects, including content strategies, engagement, and interactivity. A content analysis was conducted to compare content marketing strategies and levels of engagement and interactivity between popular and unpopular creators. The results show popular creators post more often, post more promotional content, interact less, but receive positive praise from their followers. Their followers are more engaged. The Instagram posts tend to imitate celebrity sites and often use professional photographers rather than photos from mobile devices. Hypoxia and ischemia are of the most common causes of acquired brain injury in preterm infants and often results in damage to the periventricular areas of the preterm brain. Several biochemical indices are commonly associated with hypoxic-ischemic injury, including blood pH, base deficit (BD), oxygen, and carbon dioxide (pCO2). The aim of this study was to examine the contribution of early biochemical indexes of hypoxic-ischemic risk, particularly blood gas measures and acid-base balance measures, to neuropsychological outcome in preterm preschool-age children. Being unhoused is a situation with various detrimental effects on the individual. These can range from the obvious, such as lacking a proper place to live, to ones often overlooked, such as losing representative ability and the chance to advocate for oneself. This study examines the unhoused’s ability to file grievances against social service providers for mistreatment. This paper offers a conceptual framework and embodied practice of finding ones’ psychological roots through mythological re-emplacement. The author utilizes the lenses of depth psychology, terrapsychology, ritual and pilgrimage. The method also focuses on experiences of awe in nature as a catalyst for transpersonal experience. This deeply personal account offers a model for the reader’s own symbolic engagement with the physical, natural and historically rich world around them.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is crucial for equipping individuals with the competences needed to address the pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges of our time. Despite the recognized potential of service-learning in cultivating competences that can promote sustainable development, there is a lack of empirical research exploring the development of these competences among students. Hence, this study examined the effectiveness of service-learning as a pedagogical approach to ESD in fostering essential competences among students. There are millions of street-connected children worldwide, with thousands estimated in Kenya. Many child-serving organizations - including Agape Children’s Ministry (Agape) in western Kenya - provide rehabilitation and family reintegration services to remove children from the streets and reunite them with their families. This study aims to elucidate barriers and facilitators of Agape’s Family Strengthening Program (FSP) and elicit feedback. Twelve children and 12 caregivers who participated in the FSP, as well as 11 Agape staff, participated in semi-structured, in-depth interviews for this study. In this paper we attempt to answer two related questions. First, which acculturation strategies are used by Hindus and Muslims in mutual intercultural relations and second, how contact with the members of the other group is associated with their acculturation strategies, cultural identity, and cultural security in different local contexts. A sample of 540 participants consisting of 241 Hindus and 299 Muslims, was drawn from three cities which differ in terms of their cultural and demographic histories. The State of the Northwest Arkansas Region Report is an annual publication commissioned by the Northwest Arkansas Council that serves as a tool for evaluating economic performance. In July 2018, the Council created a new blueprint for development, benchmarking Northwest Arkansas against other high-performing regions, including Austin, Texas; Des Moines, Iowa; Madison, Wis.; Durham-Chapel Hill, N.C.; Raleigh, N.C.; and Provo-Orem, Utah. The 2024 report compares Northwest Arkansas with these regions in GDP, employment, unemployment, establishment growth, median household income, average annual wages, poverty, educational attainment, research and development, homeownership costs, commuting time and average domestic airfares.

This study’s objective was to use data from existing traffic signal infrastructure to estimate pedestrian volumes. Pedestrian push-button actuations were collected from signal controller logs at 49 intersections in western Oregon and an additional 16 intersections in eastern Oregon. These actuations were then compared to observed pedestrian counts, totaling over 34,000 people, obtained from video recordings. After exploring various options, a simple quadratic relationship was modeled using a single measure of pedestrian signal activity: the number of push-button presses (filtered to remove multiple presses within 15 seconds). The model’s predictions showed a correlation of 0.86 with observed pedestrian volumes and …

A significant body of research has documented the effect to which stereotype threat can be triggered by both the physical environment and by the use of various technology media. However, there is a dearth of research exploring the relationship between stereotype threat, defined here as “the concrete, real-time threat of being judged and treated poorly in settings where a negative stereotype about one’s group applies” (Steele, Spencer & Aronson, 2002, p.385), and video conferencing software features - specifically virtual backgrounds. This article examines the negotiation of sexual and religious identities among Catholic members of the LGBTQ+ community. I explore context-specific identity negotiation to determine how and why, in a time of “cultural warfare” within the Catholic Church surrounding the acceptance of LGBTQ+ participants, LGBTQ+ members choose to convert to Catholicism. When educators target Black students’ hair through school policies, they inadvertently target their racial identity, causing harm to their mental health (Joseph- Salisbury & Connelly, 2018). While previous research has looked at the relationship between a school’s racial climate and Black students’ mental health (Mattison & Aber, 2007), this research study explored the mental health of Black adults who have experienced racial discrimination or racial microaggressions, in relation to hair and dress codes, as Black students in the K-12 school system.
