The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore Black undergraduate women’s lived experiences with mental health management and pursuance of degree completion. This study used a phenomenological approach, guided by the following research questions: 1) What barriers are Black undergraduate college women facing regarding their accessibility to counseling services on their campus? and 2) How do Black undergraduate college women with mental health issues effectively manage stressful situations while pursuing and completing a college degree? In the United States, the 40 colleges of osteopathic medicine and 157 schools of allopathic medicine face challenges in recruiting candidates who are underrepresented in medicine (URiM), and gaps in racial disparity appear to be widening. In this commentary, the authors provide an analysis of the data collected from 8 years of conducting a URiM recruitment and welcoming social events. The event is sponsored by a student special interest group called Creating Osteopathic Minority Physicians Who Achieve Scholastic Success (COMPASS) at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine - New York (TouroCOM-NY). The Leading Economic Indicator-Nebraska rose by 0.26% in May 2024. The increase in the leading indicator, designed to predict economic growth six months into the future, implies that the Nebraska economy will grow through the end of 2024. There was an increase in manufacturing hours worked in May, as Nebraska continues to benefit from strong demand for food products. Business expectations remained positive. Respondents to the May Survey of Nebraska Business reported plans to increase sales and employment over the next six months.

Previous research has highlighted the role of discrimination experiences in the development and escalation of sleep disturbances and alcohol use among diverse adolescents. However, few studies have examined the role of discrimination experiences in the reciprocal sleep-alcohol relationship prospectively. The present study examined the prospective relationship among discrimination experiences, sleep disturbances, and alcohol use, and tested racial disparities within this risk pathway. Executive Summary Faith and spirituality are becoming increasingly sought-after anchors in mounting challenges in the contemporary world. The need for effective leadership, spiritual guidance, and mentorship have become more pivotal. Evidence also suggests that spiritual leadership values and practices are related to leadership effectiveness and encompass the behaviors needed to motivate oneself, satisfy spiritual well-being, and positively influence others within that organization. Art therapy is a modality used in clinical psychotherapy. It is supported through both quantitative and qualitative research. Branching out from art therapy is nature-based art therapy. This branch of expressive therapies holds the potential to be beneficial as art therapy due to the interconnected access to the scientific fields of ecology, ecopsychology, art therapy, expressive therapies, and other nature-based therapeutic activities; this includes intersectionality in ecological theories such as ecofeminism and deep ecology as well. In this study, I will use qualitative content analysis to analyze the Cultural, social, and political aspects of film billboard, and the usage persuasion techniques in Egyptian film posters from the 1930s to the 2010s. Two posters from each political era—equaling a total of ten samples— are analyzed regarding how the persuasion techniques related to the politics of the time. This study shows the relationship between politics and cinema, as well as how film posters utilize visual persuasion techniques in images throughout time. Alluvial rivers exhibit diverse forms and dynamic processes based on the physiographic configuration and in response to the interactions between water flow, sediment transport, and channel morphology. The current understanding of the formative and evolutionary processes controlling channel morphology and the dynamics remains incomplete, as it falls short of explaining and predicting a variety of channel forms and processes. This dissertation consists of three chapters pertaining to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participation, food insecurity, cognition impairment, and sibling correlation in SNAP participation over the life course. Participation in SNAP among eligible adults 60 and older is much lower than among the younger population, and rates continue to decline throughout the life course while, at the same time, the risk of cognitive impairment increases. The relationship between food insecurity and health outcomes among adults has garnered increasing attention. Some previous studies found an association between food insecurity and cognition outcomes among older adults. However, they were hampered by not …

This dissertation examines the changes in China's social and demographic landscape and their effects on adult children's relationships with their elderly parents. It focuses on how modernization, urban migration, lower birth rates, and an aging population have transformed traditional filial piety norms and intergenerational expectations in Chinese society. The first paper aims to investigate the association between children’s economic status and parents’ self-rated health and examine the potential mediating mechanisms for this relationship. This dissertation analyzes how firms can mitigate the influence of trade shock and benefit from openness and diversification. It is composed of three chapters. Chapter 1 and 2 analyze the impact of U.S. import tariffs on the export value of Chinese firms and the differential response of firms that vary in market sizes outside of the U.S. In Chapter 1, I develop a model assuming fixed capital for each firm and fixed cost of entering into new markets. As many as 38% of children experience chronic pain, and of these children about 26% have a comorbid mental health diagnosis. Parents of children with a chronic health condition demonstrate elevations in stress when compared to parents with healthy children. It is likely that when chronic pain is comorbid with mental health disorders, parents may experience greater stress. Social isolation and financial burdens may be associated with parenting stress, which may be even higher in parents of children with chronic pain compared to parents of children without chronic pain. Autism is a heterogenous neurodevelopmental diagnosis associated with deficits in social communication and the presence of repetitive behaviors and sensory differences. While diagnostic criteria are behavioral, these behaviors are thought to arise from atypicalities in the brain. While many studies investigating autism have focused on understanding the neural processes underlying task performance, few have focused on understanding the brain at rest. This is critical, however, as the state of the brain before a stimulus is presented (i.e. its resting state) impacts how it responds to incoming information.
