The purpose of this study is to see if physical activity (PA) is affected for students since transitioning from high school to their first semester in college. The study was conducted by asking questions pertaining to PA via an online survey through the platform Qualtrics. It will be administered to students at Georgia Southern University. However, only the data from freshmen students that meet specific criteria will be accounted for in this study. Suicide rates among working-age adults (ages 25-64) in the United States are high, rising, and unequal across the country. Social infrastructure (SI), such as libraries, community centers, coffee shops, and entertainment venues, may reduce suicide risk by improving social cohesion, social support, and information and resource sharing. This data slice shows that suicide rates among working-age adults in 2016-2019 were significantly lower in counties with more SI, even after accounting for county-level differences in demographic composition (e.g., age, race/ethnicity, education), health care availability, and metropolitan status.

The cumulative effects of childhood polyvictimization, including incremental increases in experiences of childhood maltreatment (CM) types, such as sexual abuse and emotional neglect are associated with an increase in psychological distress. Personality trait domains as measured by the Personality Inventory of the DSM-5, are independently associated with psychological distress, and are thought to moderate the association between traumatic events and distress. There is a distinct connection between colors and emotions that is underexplored in the setting of sport. This connection could also be influenced by someone’s level of dysfunction or their attachment to a team. What are the roles of institution on macroeconomics? How does protection of intellectual property right (IPR) affect innovation and economic growth? This dissertation provides some new insights to these questions in three chapters. The first chapter explores how governments should optimize their IPR policies in a globalized world. I construct a general dynamic model to capture innovation and imitation behavior and quantify it with US and China’s patent assignment and litigation data. I highlight the key opposite economic forces, which leads to a non-monotonic growth effect and illustrate the inter-temporal trade-off when government are optimizing innovation and imitation. The purpose of the current study was to extend research on response-restriction (RR) preference assessment by (a) comparing the rate of problem behavior across preference assessments (i.e., multiple stimulus without replacement (MSWO), Free Operant (FO), RR) using modification made to improve the RR assessment, (b) determining whether RR can produce similar hierarchies to other preference assessments, (c) conducting a reinforcer assessment to determine if the RR assessment accurately predict reinforcers. In this article I discuss how to ensure that research participants understand what data is collected, how their data is collected and how it might be used or shared beyond the scope of the covered research product. Police work, a high stress occupation with increased risks and adverse events, often leads to strain between work and family. Work-family conflict (WFC) has been shown to mediate coping with stress. In addition, offspring of law enforcement officers (LEOs) may learn self-regulation by observing parental stress coping and attempting to alleviate stress for their parent. Three theoretical frameworks were used in this study: WFC, spill-over cross-over model, and family systems theory. Using a quantitative design, surveys were completed by 35 parent-adult offspring pairs, with more LEO parent respondents (N = 71) than adult offspring respondents (N = 43). Linear regression …

This present study intends to replicate the false consensus effect, developed from Ross, Green, and House’s original study within the Journal of Experimental Psychology. We aim to better understand the role false consensus plays within real-world situations. Utilizing a questionnaire, we presented respondents with one out of four different social scenarios. Understanding of the intersection of cyber vulnerabilities and bioprocess regulation is critical with the rise of artificial intelligence and machine learning in manufacturing. We detail a case study in which we model cyberattacks on network-mediated signals from a novel bioreactor, where it is important to control medium feed rates to maintain cell proliferation. We use a digital twin counterpart reactor to compare glucose and oxygen sensor signals from the bioreactor to predictions from a kinetic growth model, allowing discernment of faulty sensors from hacked signals. Our results demonstrate a successful biomanufacturing cyberattack detection system based on fundamental process control principles.
