สารกีดขวางช่องโซเดียม (SCB) จัดเป็นสารที่ไม่ใช่โปรตีนและมีผลต่อระบบประสาทที่สร้างจากแบคทีเรียหลายสปีชีส์ เมื่อนำ Vibrio alginolyticus ซึ่งเป็นแบคทีเรียที่สร้างสารกีดขวางช่องโซเดียมที่แยกได้จากหอยทรายที่มีพิษ (Asaphis violascens) มาเพาะเลี้ยงในน้ำสกัดจากหอยสองฝาที่มีพิษและไม่มีพิษ และอาหารเลี้ยงเชื้อสังเคราะห์ (L-medium) ที่เติม K₂HPO₄ ความเข้มข้นต่างๆ กัน พบว่า V. alginolyticus ที่เพาะเลี้ยงในน้ำสกัดจาก หอยทรายในช่วงที่มีพิษสูงสามารถผลิตสาร SCB ได้สูงถึง 51.9ไมโครกรัมต่อลิตร แต่เชื้อมีการเจริญต่ำกว่าการเพาะเลี้ยงในอาหารเลี้ยงเชื้อชนิดอื่น เนื่องจากน้ำสกัดจากหอยทรายมีปริมาณฟอสเฟตต่ำ (0.084 กรัมต่อลิตร) แสดงว่า การเลี้ยง V. alginolyticus ในน้ำสกัดจากหอยทรายที่มีปริมาณฟอสเฟตต่ำสามารถชักนำการสร้าง SCB ไต้ นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่า V. alginolyticus มีการเจริญเติบโตดีในอาหารเลี้ยงเชื้อ L-medium ที่มี K₂HPO₄ สูง (3.0 กรัม ต่อลิตร) แต่มีการสร้างสาร SCB ในระดับต่ำ (4.7 ไมโครกรัมต่อลิตร) ซึ่งจากผลการทดลองชี้ให้เห็นว่าฟอสเฟตที่ความเข้มซ้นสูงมีผลในการยับยั้งการสร้างสาร SCB แต่ส่งเสริมการเจริญของแบคทีเรียสร้างพิษ

งานวิจัยนี้ได้ศึกษาปัจจัยการผลิตดินเผาดูดซับจากดินเหนียวและขี้เลื่อย ประสิทธิภาพในการดูดซับไอออนแคดเมียมของดินเผาดูดซับที่ผลิตได้โดยการแปรผันค่าพีเอช (pH) การชะไอออนออกด้วยสารละลายกรดและน้ำกลั่น หาลักษณะทางกายภาพและทางเคมี การหาประสิทธิภาพในคอลัมน์ดูดซับ และได้ทำการเปรียบเทียบพฤติกรรมการดูดซับระหว่างถ่านกัมมันต์กับดินเผาดูดซับที่ผลิตได้ ทำการศึกษาปัจจัยการผลิตดินเผาดูดซับโดยการแปรผันอุณหภูมิการเผาปริมาณสัดส่วนโดยน้ำหนักระหว่างดินเหนียวและขี้เลื่อย และอัตราการเพิ่มอุณหภูมิในการเผา พบว่าดินเผาดูดซับที่เหมาะสมในการดูดซับจาก 120 ตัวอย่าง ในเงื่อนไขที่สามารถดูดซับไอออนแคดเมียมได้ดีและมีความคงรูป คือดินเผาดูดซับที่ผลิตจากปริมาณสัดส่วน โดยน้ำหนักระหว่างดินเหนียวและขี้เลื่อยที่ 10 ต่อ 90 ซึ่งผ่านการเผาแบบไร้ออกซิเจนที่อุณหภูมิ 600 องศาเซลเซียส เป็นเวลา 30 นาที อัตราการเพิ่มอุณหภูมิ 3 องศาเซลเซียสต่อนาที โดยสามารถกำจัดไอออนแคดเมียมได้ร้อยละ 83.95 ซึ่ง มากกว่าถ่านกัมมันต์อยู่ร้อยละ 23.05 ทำการศึกษาประสิทธิภาพการดูดซับ พบว่าสามารถดูดซับไอออนแคดเมียมได้ภายในเวลา 8 ชั่วโมง เมื่อวิเคราะห์ค่าปริมาณการดูดซับสูงสุด (q_max)ซึ่งผลการทดลองการดูดซับเหมาะสมกับสมการการดูดซับแบบฟลุนดริช (Freundlich equation) ดินเผาดูดซับสามารถดูดซับไอออนแคดเมียมที่พีเอช 3.28, 6, 7, 8 และ 9 ได้ 4.079, 2.909, 1.724,3.257 และ 6.304มิลลิกรัม/กรัมดินเผาดูดซับ ตามลำดับ ส่วนที่พีเอช 3.28 ถ่านกัมมันต์มีค่า q_max เท่ากับ 3.516 มิลลิกรัม/กรัมถ่านกัมมันต์การศึกษาการชะละลายของดินเผาดูดซับหลังจากใช้งานแล้วโดยการชะด้วยสารละลายกรดอ่อน (พีเอช 5 ) และน้ำกลั่นที่ 24 ชั่วโมง พบว่าเมื่อชะด้วยสารละลายกรดอ่อน (พีเอช 5) มีแคดเมียมถูกชะออกมาสูงสุดเพียงร้อยละ 2.7 และไม่สามารถถูกชะออกมาได้เลยด้วยน้ำกลั่น การทดลองประสิทธิภาพในการกำจัดแคดเมียมในน้ำเสียสังเคราะห์ที่พีเอช 8 ความเข้มข้นแคดเมียม 1 มิลลิกรัม/ลิตร ด้วยคอลัมน์ที่ระดับความลึกของดินเผาดูดซับ 30, 60 และ 90 เซนติเมตร พบว่าที่จุดหมดสภาพมีน้ำเสียไหลผ่านชั้นดินเผาดูดซับไปทั้งสิน 2395.9, 2985.7 และ 2408.2 เท่าของปริมาตรของคอลัมน์ ตามลำดับ

บทความเรื่องระบบการติดตามข้อมูลการนำเข้าสารเคมีอันตรายของประเทศไทยนี้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโครงการการสร้างระบบประสานงานข้อมูลการนำเข้าสารเคมีอันตรายซึ่งเป็นงานวิจัยที่ได้รับการสนับสนุนการศึกษาจากสำนักงานกองทุนสนับสนุนการวิจัยโดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาวิธีสร้างรูปแบบประสานงานและระบบการติดตามข้อมูลการนำเข้าสารเคมีและวัตถุอันตรายตามพระราชบัญญัติวัตถุอันตรายพ.ศ.2535 พระราชบัญญัติควบคุมยุทธภัณฑ์พ.ศ.2530 และกฎหมายอื่นๆที่เกี่ยวข้องหน่วยงานที่ร่วมดำเนินงานได้แก่ กรมศุลกากร และหน่วยงานที่มีหน้าที่ควบคุมการนำเข้าวัตถุอันตราย 5 หน่วยงาน คือ กรมโรงงาน อุตสาหกรรมกรมวิชาการเกษตร สำนักงานคณะกรรมการอาหารและยา กรมประมง และกรมการอุตสาหกรรมทหาร ในการนำเสนอบทความนี้ มีข้อสรุป 3 ส่วนที่สำคัญคือ 1) ผลงานจากการศึกษาคือการจำแนกพิกัดรหัสสถิติสินค้าสารเคมีให้มีความชัดเจนและเกิดประโยชน์ในการติดตามสาร เคมีเฉพาะรายการ โดยเฉพาะสารเคมีที่มีการควบคุมตามกฎหมาย ซึ่งเป็นไปตามความประสงค์ของหน่วยงานควบคุมโดยไม่กระทบกระเทือนกับระบบฮาร์โมไนซ์ที่กรมศุลกากรใช้อยู่รวมทั้งสิน2,117รหัสและจัดทำเป็นฐานข้อมูลวัตถุอันตรายซึ่งมีรายการสารควบคุมตามกฎหมาย1,667รหัสและที่ไม่ใช่สารควบคุมตามกฎหมาย 450 รหัสผลจากการจำแนกรหัสสถิติใหม่ทำให้ทราบชนิดและปริมาณนำเข้าของสารอันตรายซึ่งเป็นสารควบคุมแต่ไม่เคยมีการติดตามได้มาก่อนเช่นสารที่ต้องควบคุมตามอนุสัญญาระหว่างประเทศต่างๆ ได้แก่ สารที่ควบคุมตามบัญชีสารเคมีตามอนุสัญญาว่าด้วยกระบวนการแจ้งข้อมูลสารเคมีล่วงหน้า (PIC) และ สารมลพิษที่ตกค้างยาวนาน (POPs) เป็นต้น 2) มีการสร้างฐานข้อมูลเลขที่เอกสารสำคัญ 15 หลัก ซึ่งระบุหน่วยงานชนิดเอกสารสำคัญ ชนิดวัตถุอันตราย เลขที่เอก สารสำคัญ และปี พ.ศ. เพื่อใช้ตรวจสอบการนำเข้า ของหน่วยงานต่างๆ ที่มีหน้าที่ควบคุมการนำเข้าวัตถุอันตรายตามกฎหมาย เพื่อให้เกิดระบบติดตามการนำเข้าสารอันตรายที่เป็นมาตรฐานเดียวกัน 3) มีการสร้างระบบการตรวจสอบข้อมูลสารเคมีอันตรายโดยกรมศุลกากรสามารถรายงานสถิติการนำเข้าของสารควบคุมที่มีพิกัดรหัสสถิติชัดเจนว่าเป็นการนำเข้าโดยการอนุญาตของหน่วยงานควบคุมหน่วยใดและอ้างอิงกับเอกสารสำคัญฉบับใด โดยการตรวจสอบจากฐานข้อมูลวัตถุอันตราย และ ฐานข้อมูลเลขที่เอกสารสำคัญ 15 หลัก ขณะเดียวกันหน่วยงานควบคุมแต่ละหน่วยงานสามารถใช้ตัวเลขรายงานของกรมศุลกากรตรวจสอบเชิงลึกในการดำเนินงานของหน่วยงานควบคุมในการให้อนุญาตนำเข้าสารเคมีอันตรายที่มีการควบคุมตามกฎหมาย การศึกษามีข้อเสนอแนะให้มีการติดตามการดำเนินงานเพื่อประเมินผลและปรบปรุงระบบให้สามารถใช้ประโยชน์ต่อเนื่องใน การติดตามการนำเข้า ในขณะเดียวกันสามารถขยายไปสู่การติดตามการผลิต การส่งออก และ การครอบครองวัตถุอันตรายต่อไป

Protected areas can conserve wildlife and benefit people when managed effectively. African governments increasingly delegate the management of protected areas to private, nongovernmental organizations, hoping that private organizations’ significant resources and technical capacities actualize protected areas’ potential. Does private sector management improve outcomes compared to a counterfactual of government management? We leverage the transfer of management authority from governments to African Parks (AP)—the largest private manager of protected areas in Africa—to show that private management significantly improves wildlife outcomes via reduced elephant poaching and increased bird abundances. This study investigates the influence of cultural tightness-looseness on optimal distinctiveness motives and group identification, examining the moderating roles of self-construal, global orientation, and tightness/looseness match. Participants (N=465) from the United States and China were randomly assigned to tight or loose conditions and numerically majority or minority group conditions. Experimental manipulation of tightness-looseness did not significantly affect optimal distinctiveness needs. Cultural match, operationalized as alignment of tightness/looseness between participants' own culture and experimental condition, significantly moderated the relationship between culture conditions and need to belong. Many feel uncomfortable discussing self-directed violence with individuals in their social circle, often leading to concerned posts on social media. Previous studies address self-harm, suicide, and nonsuicidal self-injury; however, minimal literature combines suicide and nonsuicidal self-injury to explore common themes representing self-directed violence. This study identified themes from suicide and self-harm subreddit communities, with themes common to each subreddit comprising themes of self-directed violence. Using 1,989 Reddit posts from suicide and self-harm communities, we employed an inductive thematic analysis to explore how users discussed self-directed violence within anonymous online communities. The authors implemented an A–B–A with follow-up quasi-experimental single-case research design to assess the effectiveness of a consumer-grade neurofeedback (NFB)-assisted mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) for reducing anxiety in high-achieving high school students (N = 5). Three of the participants from racial/ethnic minority and lower socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds reported reduced anxiety as measured by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Youth (STAI-Y) during the intervention. In contrast, the two participants who identified as White, higher SES did not report decreased anxiety during the intervention. Purpose: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is a prevalent long-term complication of treatment in survivors of childhood cancer, with marked racial/ethnic differences in burden. In this study, we investigated trans-ancestral genetic risks for treatment-related T2D.

Patients and methods: Leveraging whole-genome sequencing data from the St Jude Lifetime Cohort (N = 3,676, 304 clinically ascertained cases), we conducted ancestry-specific genome-wide association studies among survivors of African and European genetic ancestry (AFR and EUR, respectively) followed by trans-ancestry meta-analysis. This study looks to explore the psychosocial effects that service dogs have on handlers with disabilities. A cross-sectional survey designed to gather information about this directly from service dog handlers was administered to a sample of 20 participants. Then, a qualitative analysis was conducted on data from the survey using an inductive coding scheme that identified themes in the data as key terms and ideas emerged.

Indonesia finds tax amnesty as a reliable funding alternative to develop a sustainable economy. Since 1964, Indonesia has implemented five tax amnesty programs. The latest two programs would offer lower amnesty compensation rates if taxpayers repatriated offshore assets back to Indonesia. A large body of literature substantiates women’s difficulties integrating into all levels of law enforcement. To understand the experiences of women police officers in the force, and to understand how law enforcement leaders view the role of women in leadership positions, this study focused on the perception of six women police officers–specifically, women police chiefs towards women who already assumed leadership positions, overcame challenges entering law enforcement and advancing into leadership positions, and collected their input on organizational decisions, policy, and recruitment of women officers. Organizations grapple with significant challenges such as burnout, turnover, and low job satisfaction. Studies indicate that emotional exhaustion, influenced by job demands and available resources, significantly impacts job performance positively or negatively. This quantitative study uses secondary data from the Work, Family, and Health Study to investigate the relationship between role clarity and burnout within Tomo, the technology division of a Fortune 500 company in the United States. The findings reveal a significant inverse correlation between role clarity and burnout, with participants reporting "Never" experiencing burnout more likely to have well-defined roles. This poster discusses a project to oversee the quality control and brief description of over 21,000 rare and unique items donated to the library in an unprocessed “backlog” spanning decades. The goals of this project include making the material discoverable and requestable by researchers, establishing labour benchmarks for material processing, and assigning an appropriate receiving library to items for inventory control in preparation for the cataloguing unit’s move to a new physical location.
