Background

Mobile sensing technology allows automated behavior shaping routines to be incorporated into health behavior interventions and other settings. In previous work, a computational model was built to investigate how to best arrange automatic behavior shaping procedures, but the degree to which this model reflects actual human behavior is not known.

Purpose

To translate a previously developed computational model of automatic behavior shaping into an experimental setting.

Methods

This transcendental phenomenological study will discover how Black clergy and lay leaders in urban communities respond to Black women who report intimate partner violence. Semi- structured interviews will take place in urban churches or secure locations within the communities. Six male and six female church pastors, clergy, and lay leaders will be selected as participants for the study, which will capture their firsthand experiences, levels of awareness and belief about the prevalence of IPV in urban communities, and their preparedness to address this form of violence against Black women. This phenomenological study explored the stigma attached to police officers' mental health and how it affects their willingness to seek assistance. The research aimed to understand the role stigma plays in officers' mental health outcomes and investigated the systemic deterrents that prevent them from accessing the essential mental health services. Interviews conducted with former police officers disclosed that toughness and emotional restraint are cultural norms for perpetuating the cycle of silence, which many of the officers did in order to make it throughout their career without “repercussions”. The concept of moral injury is relatively new, and most of the attention has been aimed at military veterans. Moral injury is perpetrating, failing to prevent, bearing witness to, or learning about acts that transgress deeply held moral beliefs and expectations. While awareness has increased in recent years, research on moral injury among law enforcement officers is limited. On average, during a 20-year career, police officers are exposed to 700 critical incidents, while average citizens may witness two. The purpose of the present investigation was to examine the relationship between color and supporting sport teams. Some reasons why individuals support teams are team identification, need to belong, and the minimal group paradigm. Participants in this study (final sample N = 131) completed a questionnaire packet to assess their selection of teams because of uniform color. Participants provided their favorite team and demographics, then completed the SSIS, SFQ, vignette, and TAS. Results from the current study indicated that some participants selected a team based on color. Those who did select a team based on color reported that they would …

This study examines the temporal and spatial distribution of rainfall in the city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital. The city has experienced significant urbanization in the past two decades. Therefore, the impervious surfaces and the restriction of original surface flow routes increase runoff in Riyadh city. Thus, stormwater frequently accumulates in streets because it exceeds the storm sewer capacity, storm sewers are blocked or partially blocked by sediment, or due to the lack of storm sewers. The purpose of this study was to determine the frost protection value of covering your plants in spring with polyethylene terephthalate (plastic) milk jugs or polyurethane rose cones. These coverings were placed in a field southeast of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Nocturnal temperatures were measured from May 7- 24, 1995 on clear and cloudy nights. Spring nocturnal temperatures inside one U.S. gallon milk jugs were slightly lower and those inside rose cones slightly higher than ambient air temperatures. Placing holes near the bases of these covers to provide additional circulation resulted in slightly lower nocturnal temperatures under the rose cones but no …

In this research, some changes in the extent and nature Qf poverty in the region are presented that suggest despite extensive programs designed to combat poverty, a core of intense poverty still persists. While significant improvements have been made in such areas as transportation, it seems clear that some roots of poverty in the region have not been addressed. This research explores the impact of regionalism in Canada on the program design ofthe Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's (CBC) Prime Time News. An analysis was performed on the content of this program to determine whether or not such regional considerations exist. The content analysis extracted two key variables, Total Segments and Segment Length, to determine if the CBC employed a decision making process imilar to the federal government's de jure and de facto regional allocation process for governmental appointments. This study investigates websites of organizations that train and provide guide dogs to visually impaired people and present marketing methods as social welfare services. The study also makes suggestions for improving the websites. Among the members of the International Guide Dog Federation, 110 official websites of the organizations were analyzed. Websites were evaluated based on criteria including organizational basics, staff details, top page images, donation information, guide dog application guidance, user comments, and specific guide dog information. Brief alcohol interventions (BAIs) are an evidence-based practice for addressing hazardous drinking among primary care patients, yet implementation of BAIs in practice has been difficult and disparities have been identified regarding implementing BAIs with women and racial/ethnic minority patients. Further, patient engagement is a commonly identified barrier to BAI implementation. This mixed methods study aimed to assess acceptability of BAIs among women and racial/ethnic minority primary care patients and to identify factors that may impact their receptivity to engaging in a BAI. Through its Whole Health approach, the Veterans Health Administration (VA) is a leading force in this movement. VA’s Whole Health focuses on delivering patient-centered care that engages and empowers Veterans to improve health outcomes. The Personal Health Inventory (PHI) is a brief, whole-person focused, values assessment of what matters most that can lead to personalized health planning. During the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, held between October and November of 2023 in Santiago, Chile, six researchers from universities in the United States, Spain and Chile, conducted data collection for four research studies. These studies focused on: (1) the Games’ social impact on residents; (2) tourist profiles and their evaluations of the event; (3) volunteer motivations, empowerment, satisfaction, and future intentions; and (4) progress toward gender equity in Pan American sport organizations. By examining potential accessibility design barriers, we seek to understand whether US nonprofit organizations are limiting their outreach to online donors, specifically persons with disabilities (PwDs). In this study, I recounted my experience using mantra meditation during a phenomenological study for the purposes of bracketing. The efficacy and purpose of bracketing have been debated from Husserl (1931), whose aimed was to achieve objectivity, to Heidegger (1962) who advocated for immersion of the researcher, through the French school (Merleau-Ponty, 1964) of middle ground, by whom bracketing was seen as the process to unearth and suspend biases for the better understanding of participants’ experiences (Arsel, 2017; Creswell & Creswell, 2017; Creswell & Poth, 2016; Fischer & Guzel, 2023). Despite growing awareness of health disparities and social exclusion, there remains a significant gap in understanding how devaluation affects both individual well-being and broader community cohesion. Historically, mental health services have been dominated by clinical settings, such as hospitals and private practices, yet this approach has limitations in reaching underserved populations. Introduction: The annual prevalence of elder mistreatment (EM) in cognitively intact older adults is estimated to be 11%, yet the annual prevalence in older adults with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) is estimated to be as high as 75%. The rapid adoption of mindfulness in Western healthcare and psychological frameworks has exposed the complexity of defining this multifaceted concept across diverse contexts. To demonstrate the multidimensional nature of mindfulness, this analysis examines how Western psychological frameworks, representing its most recent adaptation, use varying terminology to describe it. By documenting the prevalence of these terminological variations, this paper makes a case for creating an expanded annotated glossary of modern mindfulness terms, arguing that examining diverse perspectives alongside their common elements enables a deeper understanding of the concept. This thesis introduces the framework of Visual Mindful Autoethnography (VmAE) which integrates mindfulness, self-compassion, and creative visual expression as tools for reflexive self-inquiry within the research process. Grounded in the principles of autoethnography and mindfulness, VmAE fosters a deep engagement with personal narratives, biases, and cultural contexts while encouraging emotional resilience, self-awareness, and ethical integrity.
