Sports are often undervalued in India, with many families prioritizing careers in fields like engineering and medicine over athletics (Tewari, 2021). This cultural sentiment extends to people with disabilities, where adaptive sports receive little attention despite 4.3% (around 61 million) of India's population living with a disability (MOSPI, 2021). Adaptive sports, however, play a crucial role in promoting physical health, mental well-being, and socialization, particularly in rural areas (Chen et al., 2024). This study analyzes the associations between high school student confidence levels on international current events, their motivations to learn more, optimism for the future, and their general understanding of international current events. Using a survey, I first asked students how confident they felt about their understanding of current events, their level of desire to learn more, why they felt that way, and their level of optimism for the future. Considering the rapid growth and relevance of the Hispanic market in the U.S., this study explores strategies employed by brands in their communication efforts to connect with this consumer base. Through a qualitative content analysis, the study analyzes emerging themes and patterns in terms of language use and cultural values employed in marketing and advertising campaigns directed to the U.S. Hispanic market. Results reveal a prevalent use of Spanish, with a rise in the use of English reflective of changing demographic trends of Hispanics in the U.S. Cultural values resonant with Hispanic identity are also employed in campaigns. The use of a strategy involving original or atypical labels for prestige wines has shown its relevance in numerous studies. However, the implementation of an artification strategy in particular has rarely been addressed for wines, particularly those with an entry and mid-range positioning. It is surprising given the increasingly high use of social media use among young adults and the likely relationship between it and deteriorating sleep quality that more research is not focused on the relationship between these two variables. The present study results supported our two a priori hypotheses. Social media use and sleep were inversely associated (H1). Further, our data showed that the level of social media use impacted sleep quality - a causal relationship is indicated between the two variables (H2). In 1988, a rebel group called the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) formed in Northern Uganda. A civil war broke out between the LRA and the government, lasting more than two decades and affecting almost the entire population of Northern Uganda. Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a chronic, inherited blood disorder characterized by severe pain episodes that are often poorly managed with standard pharmacological treatments. In response to patient dissatisfaction with pain control and the desire for holistic alternatives, this quality improvement project explored music therapy as a non-pharmacological pain management strategy.

Purpose

The primary aim was to reduce chronic pain by at least 20% and improve patient satisfaction with pain management among adults with SCD using a structured musical intervention.

This thesis explores idea of suspended agency and the development of a habitus of waiting within a women and children’s migrant shelter in Tijuana, Mexico. Relying on ten days of participant observation and an interview with a shelter director, I examine the lived experiences of residents, workers, and myself as a researcher navigating humanitarian space. Shelters are designed to be short term spaces, but migrants are often forced into long-term, uncertain stays due to restrictive border policies and structural barriers, resulting in a social stasis defined by boredom, anxiety, and monotony within the shelter. We sought to describe the clinical, radiological characteristics and determine the outcomes of children with primary headache. A retrospective observational study was conducted. Children with primary headache were recruited. Demographic, clinical and radiological data were compiled. Visual Analog Scale was used to determine pain severity. Seventy-three patients were included in the study. Their median age was 10.0 (IQR: 8.0-12.0) years, and 38 (52.1%) were female. Fiftyfour (74.0%) had migraine headache. Majority, 50 (68.5%) reported severe headaches at presentation. Three (4.1%) patients had abnormal findings on MRI while 5 (6.8%) patients had abnormal findings on EEG. This investigation presents an assessment of the state of food sovereignty in the community of Huilloc, Peru based on their practices of food production and consumption as well as the implementation of Wasi Mikuna, a state program to provide food to public schools. Using an ethnographic approach, data was collected through semi-structured interviews and participant observations with farmers, shopkeepers, educators, and families of the community over the course of nine days of fieldwork. In this report, I collected a series of stories, legends, and narrations from various people in the community of Paru Paru, a 45-minute drive north of Pisac. Paru Paru is a town of 140 families, the vast majority Quechua-speaking. I interviewed various people, with varying ages between 25 and 90 years old using a sociolinguistic and cultural anthropology lens. I focused on collecting recordings of my participants speaking in Quechua, to help with assuring that the culture and history of the town will not be lost with the years. This paper explores how fair trade shapes both the economic realities and personal aspirations of Indigenous women in Puno, Peru. Its findings are grounded in 23 semi-structured interviews with women from three artisan associations connected to Intercrafts Perú. Whilst fair trade offers an avenue for economic development that promotes cultural preservation, in the 4 interviews I conducted, many women shared that their income falls short of the national minimum wage and does not ensure food security. In contrast, women who have completed university reported greater economic stability and food security, suggesting that education is a key factor in improving quality …

Through interviews, observations, and bibliographic research, this project investigates the Indigenous-based conservation project of Ori’Numba Garden. In 2018, the Tayori family moved to Ori’Numba and began transforming it from a former livestock farm into a holistic conservation project. The paper details the history of Ori’Numba and the process of its creation, the modern and traditional agricultural techniques used in the garden, a register of the pineapple and native bee species, and some of the relevant Harakbut mythology. Ori’Numba clearly demonstrates that there is Indigenous conservation biology, not just “indigenized” Western conservation biology.

This research examines front-of-package nutrition labeling (FOPNL) systems in three distinct policy environments: the United States (voluntary industry-led), Switzerland (government-endorsed voluntary), and Chile (mandatory warning labels). Through comparative policy analysis and consumer interviews, the study evaluates how different regulatory approaches influence nutritional awareness and purchasing behaviors. Key findings demonstrate that Chile's mandatory warning labels are most effective at reducing consumption of unhealthy foods and improving consumer understanding, particularly among children. In contrast, voluntary systems in the U.S. and Switzerland show limited impact due to inconsistent implementation and industry resistance.
