Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) remains a significant challenge, with many patients failing conventional treatments. While intranasal esketamine has demonstrated efficacy for depression, its specific effects on suicidal ideation (SI)—a critical symptom of depression—are underexplored. Unlike most studies that adhere to the 84mg dosing paradigm administered twice weekly, this study explores the novel use of varying esketamine doses, including 54mg, 84mg, and 112mg. Assessing Middle Eastern American Attitudes Towards Substance Use Disorders

Introduction:

Substance use disorders (SUD) among Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) populations remain largely understudied, despite evidence of high prevalence rates and lower rates of treatment engagement. Unique cultural conceptualizations and beliefs surrounding substance use disorders may perpetuate stigma, further contributing to disparities in access to and utilization of treatment services. This study aims to explore the attitudes and perspectives of individuals from MENA communities regarding substance use disorders, with the goal of identifying and addressing barriers to treatment.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the relationships between age, experience, anthropometric measures, physical fitness, and the quality of technical performance in karate practitioners. We conducted an observational cross-sectional study with 53 federated karate athletes, aged 5 to 55, affiliated with the Youth Karate Association Portugal. The participants were divided into age and experience groups to assess differences in anthropometric measures (body mass, height, BMI) and physical fitness (strength, power, flexibility). From low retention rates to race and gender biases to being overworked and undervalued in the classroom, Black women leave education at higher rates than any other demographic. This study highlighted the experiences of Black women in K-12 education settings, the role of support systems in their retention and advancement, and why they stay in K-12 education. Although many universities have adopted student management systems (SMS) such as Navigate or Starfish to track and communicate with students about their academic progress, libraries have had little involvement with these platforms. This poster presents a case study of a Library’s integration as a referral point in Navigate. Faculty are now able to raise ad-hoc alerts that refer students to research support at the library. In addition to providing another avenue of research support, librarians are also able to keep faculty informed throughout the process, something not integrated into other systems of library support.

Studies suggest that generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) symptoms are related to late positive potential (LPP) responses to negative images, suggesting greater attention. Anxiety sensitivity (AS) and intolerance of uncertainty (IU) are cognitive factors in GAD vulnerability that may be activated by negative stimuli, thereby explaining why the LPP and GAD symptoms are related. We examined whether AS and IU explain the association of the LPP with GAD symptoms. Eighty-seven (77% women) young adults viewed 60 negative and 60 neutral images. The LPP was examined using both frequentist and Bayesian approaches. This revealed unique indirect effects of the LPP on GAD …

In early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Counseling and Training Clinics of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) to shut down. Consequently, our graduate counseling program students needed help accruing the direct counseling hours required by their degree programs. Without an established telehealth option, the UTRGV Counseling Department supported the creation of DreamStar Free Online Counseling (DFOC), an online counseling program initiative facilitated through Zoom video. In response to our students’ urgent need for clients, we added individual and group dreamwork to DFOC’s array of services, increasing the referral level. The primary purpose of this study was to determine the influence of generational differences and selected demographic characteristics on the motivation to volunteer for organizational boards.

The sample consisted of members of Boards of Directors of selected YMCA regions in Louisiana. The researcher used a quantitative research design and an instrument consisting of the Volunteer Functions Inventory (VIF) and a researcher-designed demographic survey, which was shared via electronic mail, distributed through the Qualtrics system.

Examination of the study results revealed no relationship between the six subscales of the VFI and generational cohorts. However, a positive relationship was found between respondents’ …

We introduce a new methodology to detect and measure economic activity using geospatial data and apply it to steel production, a major industrial pollution source worldwide. Combining plant output data with geospatial data, such as ambient air pollutants, nighttime lights, and temperature, we train machine learning models to predict plant locations and output. We identify about 40% (70%) of plants missing from the training sample within a 1 km (5 km) radius and achieve R² above 0.8 for output prediction at a 1 km grid and at the plant level, as well as for both regional and time series …

A growing number of children identify in various gender-creative ways, likely due to broader social awareness and affirmation of transgenderism. Gender-creative children face higher risks for adverse social, academic, mental health, and healthcare outcomes compared to non-transgender peers. Support from loved ones along with guidance from pediatric providers can mitigate poor outcomes and ensure that gender-creative children live healthy and happy lives. Young gender-creative children's perspectives about the aforementioned topics are markedly absent from the literature, which instead highlights adolescent and adult proxy perspectives.

Effective written feedback is crucial to student learning and fostering writing skills. Responding to student writing is a multi-faceted and complex process which requires a more nuanced understanding in second language writing research. This study explored teachers’ beliefs and practices about written feedback may be influenced by a range of factors. Data were collected from four middle-school English teachers in China via stimulated recall tasks and semi-structured interviews reflecting retrospectivly on how and why teachers gave feedback to student writing. This project explores different themes of heroism as seen through comparing my volunteer experience at the Veterinary Clinic at the Avenues in Marietta with major works of World Literature. It is shown how dedicated and selfless the staff are, as well as how strong and content the animals are. It puts an emphasis on how little acts of service can truly make a meaningful impact as it helps to create a broader understanding of heroism in our society.
