The Fear Of Replacement: How Ai Panic In Journalism Mirrors Existential Crisis In Industry, James Hutson

This study systematically examines the portrayal of artificial intelligence (AI) errors, such as hallucinations and deepfakes, in journalistic contexts, evaluating whether these narratives reflect a broader existential anxiety about AI's role in reshaping journalism. Using a systematic literature review combined with a qualitative content analysis of recent AI-focused news reports, this study identifies recurring themes in media coverage to assess the accuracy and context of reported AI errors relative to actual technological limitations and affordances. Findings suggest that while AI errors are comparatively rare, they receive amplified coverage, often fueling public mistrust in AI technologies. Nevertheless, a balanced examination reveals …

Introduction: Online dating is a popular way for individuals to connect today, and the visual elements of an online dating profile have become an essential part of online dating. The current study examined how media richness, visual blurriness, and beautification of an online dating profile’s visual elements would influence online dating outcomes.

Methods: We conducted an online dating experiment with 10 different conditions with younger adults between 18 and 35 (n = 389).

“I Never Wanted This”: Examining Maintenance Of White Femininity Within Abortion Stories On Tiktok, Brooke Pope

The invocation of tragedy in abortion stories has been acknowledged as a rhetorical tool that creates affective prescriptions and marginalization. Expanding on this concept, this work identifies how these strategies are used to maintain white femininity structurally through individual narratives. An intersectional feminist rhetorical analysis of abortion stories told on the platform TikTok is used to identify discursive practices that signal to white femininity. These practices are organized into three prominent themes within narratives: moves toward victimization, moves toward innocence, and prescribed punishments. A small archaeological excavation carried out in 2005–2007 on a hilltop in the Lavi Forest in Lower Galilee uncovered a small area of the village of Lubiya that was settled in the Late Hellenistic to early Byzantine periods. The earliest exposed building complex was constructed on the bedrock and comprised parts of two residential units with a shared long wall, an internal courtyard and several rooms. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is commonly comorbid with cannabis use disorder (CUD). One explanation for this comorbidity is the self-medication model, which suggests that individuals may use cannabis to cope with or reduce PTSD symptoms. This behavior, referred to as trauma-related cannabis use to cope (TRCU), may differ across gender and racial groups; however, research on these variations remains limited. The goal of this study was to examine whether relationship satisfaction mediated the association between attachment and quality of life. The study included 314 participants who reported on visual imagery, emotional regulation, and relationship satisfaction. Our original hypothesis was supported using the attachment scales, which yielded all significant mediations in the anxiety, closeness, dependence, and avoidance categories. However, further research is needed to better understand the rationale behind why better attachment styles increase quality of life as well as examining relationship satisfaction as a mediator between attachment and quality of life.

The goal of this study was to examine if poor visual imagery (i.e., aphantasia) moderated the link between emotional regulation and relationship satisfaction. We had 314 participants report on a survey about visual imagery, emotional regulation, and relationship satisfaction. Our original hypothesis was supported using the overall emotion regulation scale as well as five of the six different subscales of emotion regulation. However, further research is needed to better understand the rationale behind why aphantasia moderates this relationship.

Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturned the access to abortion that had been established with Roe v Wade. As a result, states had autonomy to make statewide policies on this issue. Some states chose complete bans, some partial bans, and others provided continuing access to abortion. This article explores the dueling referenda of 2022 and 2023 in Kentucky and Ohio, respectively, following the Dobbs decision in 2022. Voters in both states voted to continue to permit abortion access in their states, yet access in each state is different. In this paper, we investigate tax avoidance of MNEs through profit shifting to tax havens. Using macro data from US MNEs, we analyze at the host country level where US affiliates book their profits and where their actual production activities take place. We find that the effect of the corporate tax on excess profits is conditional on whether the host country is considered to be a tax haven. Among tax haven host countries, a difference of 1% in the corporate tax is associated with a change of 8-15% in excess profits, while the relationship between corporate tax and excess profits …

The pipeline theory suggests that we should see a pyramid shape in women’s representation, with more women at lower levels of the political career ladder, particularly in local and county-level offices, and fewer women as we move up the hierarchy. We investigate the effects of cosmopolitan and traditional county features on the opposition to three successful liberal state-wide initiatives on abortion and recreational marijuana using county-level data. Cosmopolitan/traditional variables include urban/rural living patterns, college graduates, average income and religiosity while control variables include turnout, poverty, race, region, and union support. We observe the results of these three elections to see the relationship between vote shares and factors such as income, education, rural/urban, and religiosity, controlling for other factors. We researched caregiver emotions during the simulation experience at the Dementia Simulation House.

Our research question was: How do the emotions of family caregivers differ from the emotions of non-caregivers during the simulation?

We predicted that caregivers will experience emotions more strongly than other participants. Family caregivers may have a deep emotional bond with their loved ones who have dementia. This personal connection may amplify their emotional responses during simulations, as they may vividly recall their own caregiving experiences.

Latino adults disproportionately experience financial stress, but no programs developed for Latinos comprehensively and successfully integrate financial capability and stress management approaches to address financial stress. Using a community-partnered approach, we enhanced a digital financial capability intervention with theoretically- and empirically-grounded stress management techniques. We tested whether this integrative intervention improved financial capability, self-efficacy, actions, and stress as well as sleep, a correlate of stress. A sample of 76 Latino adults (39 in the intervention group, 37 in the control group; mean age = 45, 76% female, 88% with household income below $59,999) completed the three-month randomized waitlist-control trial. Struggles with depression are prominent among the population of incarcerated individuals. After COVID-19, the impacts of depression became more profound among incarcerated youth. For youth with previous diagnoses, the impacts of depression were more severe. To better understand the scope of the issue, this literature review examines how the field currently understands COVID-19’s impact on the depression of incarcerated youth. Findings suggest that factors such as isolation, physiological social stressors, and prior mental health diagnosis contribute to depression among incarcerated youth. Implications for mental health prevention and treatment for incarcerated youth will be discussed.
