For more than a thousand years the virtue of the hop has been recorded, and it is possible that hops have been cultivated since prehistoric times. More than five hundred years have passed since the domesticated hops were brewed in middle Europe, but wild hops were used much earlier, and are brewed in Syria even today. Hops were introduced to England in the wild, but much later came into prominence after being introduced into Kent by Flemish immigrants about 15241.

The Calumet River-Lake Calumet area within the City of Chicago, Illinois comprises a complexity of manufacturing, transportation, service, and storage facilities at a magnitude rarely found other than in coastal port locations. The area contains a major portion of the Calumet district's heavy basic industries and constitutes the principal port area of metropolitan Chicago. The historical developments of the industrial and port activities in the area have been ably chronicled by Mayer' and Appleton' and do not bear repeating here. Joseph T. Sinclair died in the Spring of 1970. He had been at Eastern Michigan University since 1958, and his was not the ordinary, stereo-typed professional career. As an undergraduate Bud Sinclair trained in both Geography and Geology at the University of Michigan. As an undergraduate he participated at Geology field camps but developed his great love for geography w hile traveling in the Orient with Professor Robert Hall.

With new desa linization techniques, the islands can support both a greater local as well as tourist population. An anomalous pattern of high warm-season precipitation centered on the city of La Porte, Indiana, has recently been described in the literature.' The presence of this pattern was attributed to rainfall augmentation as a result of atmospheric pollution by the heavy industrial complex in the vicinity of Gary, Indiana (Figure one). Other natural gradients in addition to that of rainfall exist in the La Porte area, however, and possibly suggest that the former pattern has had a longer-term existence. The purpose of my research was to explore how integrating students as partners in professional development enhances student leader training. The study addressed gaps in student participation in training session planning, guided by two research questions: How can integrating students as partners in student leader professional development initiatives contribute to training success? And, what insights can be gained from including undergraduate student leaders in curriculum development for professional training? Research cycles included a survey, workshops, and reflective journaling. The Torero Renaissance Scholars Program (TRSP) supports undergraduate and graduate students who have experienced foster care, homelessness, or who are emancipated minors or in legal guardianship. My action research aimed to explore and improve TRSP practices related to sharing personal narratives, community building, and fostering mutual understanding between students, campus, and community partners. Using an action research model focused on community engagement, I conducted three research cycles involving narrative inquiry-based individual interviews and surveys to evaluate group activities. Findings revealed a tension around sharing personal stories and highlighted the importance of self-authorship and holistic mentorship. Interviews showed students prioritize resources …

Objectives: To investigate whether pulse pressure or mean arterial pressure mediates the relationship between age and white matter hyperintensity load and to examine the mediating effect of white matter hyperintensities on cognition.

Methods: Demographic information, blood pressure, current medication lists, and Montreal Cognitive Assessment scores for231 stroke- and dementia-free adults were retrospectively obtained from the Aging Brain Cohort study. Total WMH load was determined from T2-FLAIR magnetic resonance scans using the TrUE-Net deep learning tool for white matter segmentation.
