Rooted In Resilience: Exploring Indigenous Economic Models And Sustainability On The Rocky Boy Indian Reservation., Dominique Nault

Capstone Collection

This study examines how traditional practices and cultural values of the Chippewa Cree shape the economic identity and sustainability of the Rocky Boy Indian Reservation. Using a mixed-methods approach that combined demographic surveys with culturally grounded interviews, the research reveals that economic development in the community is inseparable from traditional knowledge systems, collective well-being, and ecological stewardship. Rather than centering on financial accumulations, wealth is defined by family, community, and cultural continuity, placing traditional knowledge on par with land and monetary resources.

During the 2024 Fall semester, at the McCluskey Center for Violence Prevention at the University of Utah, our team solidified an educational plan to create Instagram posts on topics related to relationship and sexual violence. The Instagram Educational Series Programming consists of weekly posts addressing the primary prevention of relationship and sexual violence on the @uofucvp Instagram. OBJECTIVES: We explored the lived experiences of active-duty servicewomen (ADSW) accessing and receiving care during the perinatal period (from discovery of pregnancy to 1 year postpartum) within the Military Health System.

STUDY DESIGN: Using qualitative methods, we conducted semi-structured interviews between September 2022 and February 2023 with 23 ADSW participants who were pregnant or within their first year postpartum. Data were analyzed using inductive coding and thematic analysis techniques.

RESULTS: Participants reported bureaucratic hurdles and long wait times for accessing care, too little choice in providers, and inadequate coordination between civilian and military care providers. Those who experienced perinatal complications …

This article presents an investigation of the state of peer review for Open Educational Resource (OER) Textbooks, which denotes the variability of peer review practices across OER platforms. The environ-mental scan highlights the critical finding that the perception of quality between OER textbooks and commercially published or traditional textbooks is often linked to the presence or absence of a formal, pre-publication peer review process. Findings emphasized a strong preference on behalf of adopters and potential authors of OER textbooks to have a standardized process or guidance for pursuing pre-publication peer review. Textiles can often be found damaged in forensic casework, and analysis of these defects can yield valuable information. Different methods of fiber fracture leave behind varying alterations in structure on individual fiber ends, leading to their possible identification and connection to a case. Interactions between high-speed impacts and synthetic fabrics composed of thermoplastic fibers are classified as rapid shear or high-speed tensile breaks. In these situations, unique fiber end characteristics can form due to excessive heat generation that is unable to dissipate quickly enough to prevent fiber end morphology from changing.

Parental communication about body weight and shape is associated with offspring’s eating behaviors and body image. However, predictors of parental weight/shape communication are less known. The present study explored whether direct (i.e., comments to the child about their weight and encouragement to diet) and indirect (i.e., modeling of the importance of body weight/shape via parent’s own dieting and comments about their own weight) communication about weight, shape, and eating from parents in childhood predicted women’s direct and indirect communication about weight/shape to their own child in adulthood. Emerging adults (ages 18-26) with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) are especially vulnerable to diabetes management challenges when taking on increased disease responsibility during this critical period of development. They may experience higher cognitive and psychological demands compared to peers. The study examined whether having T1DM moderated the association between executive functioning (EF) and mental health symptoms (i.e., depression, anxiety, stress, and disordered eating) in emerging adults. Exploratory analyses investigated the associations between EF, disease management, and mental health symptoms. Participants were 35 emerging adults with T1DM and 35 healthy controls. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, adolescents spent time in social isolation from their peers due to periods of mandated lockdown. It was unclear how social media use during lockdown could have influenced adolescents’ mental health after the pandemic. Psychosocial development theory and self-socialization theory formed the theoretical framework for this study. This study examined 158 adolescents aged 13-17 who experienced lockdowns and movement restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The independent variables were a) the social media sites most frequented during lockdowns, and b) the purposes of their use. This paper investigates real earnings management (REM) practices in public non-financial companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) from 2014 to 2023, focusing on sectoral differences and the influence of market competition. REM, defined as deviations from normal business operations aimed at manipulating reported earnings, can distort financial information and harm long-term firm value. This study contributes to the existing literature in two key ways. Introduced amid widespread campus protests against the Israeli militarys actions in the Gaza Strip, the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023 (AAA) directs the Department of Education to consider the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism during investigations of potential discrimination under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. This study investigates congressional debate on the AAA using the Discourse Historical Approach to Critical Discourse Analysis to assess how members of Congress portray the victims and perpetrators of antisemitism and whether these portrayals align with the stated aim to "improve safety and security for Jewish Communities." The client organization had not previously analyzed the impact of its NIBIN program. This lack of analysis potentially impeded informed decision-making regarding staffing and resource allocation. The purpose of this study was to address the practice-focused research question: What impact do NIBIN leads have on case closure rates for aggravated assaults and homicides involving firearms? A Cox proportional hazards regression model, a type of survival analysis, was used to analyze the data, which was based on the Locard exchange principle. There are normative declines in student engagement during the transition to middle school, and studies indicate that these challenges may be especially problematic for boys.
