Despite widespread concern about teacher shortages, there is little evidence on when teaching positions are posted and how many people apply for them. Using detailed job-posting and application data on nearly 57,000 applicants from 19 traditional school districts and 24 charter organizations, we provide descriptive evidence on the timing of job postings, the supply of applicants, and the characteristics of applicants, emphasizing how each varies across organizations and between the district and charter sectors. We find that late hiring is less prevalent than prior single-district studies suggest—about 11% of openings are posted late—but varies widely across organizations. Applicant supply differs …

Abstract

The development of a region is frequently followed by the emergence of slum settlements which further obstruct the growth of productive activities. This study evaluates the effects of Slum Upgrading Program in Indonesia to the growth of small-micro industries, cooperatives, and hotels in slum area. By using difference in difference (DID) method, this study analysed 3427 villages in 33 provinces during 2016-2018. It was found that program increased the number of micro and small industries and hotels, and reduced the number of cooperatives. Over the last decade, the manufacturing sector's contribution to Indonesia's economy has declined. In 2010, it was 29.10% of GDP, but by 2022, it had dropped to 19.14%. Employment in the sector also fell, from 14.91% of the workforce in 2010 to 13.80% in 2022. To reverse this trend, the government introduced a policy to boost the Domestic Component Level (DCL) in manufacturing. By offering fiscal incentives to industries meeting certain DCL targets, the government aims to drive economic growth and job creation. A study using BPS data from 2008-2019 shows that this policy raised DCL by 23.5%.

This study aims to inquire the Political Budget Cycle (PBC) by examining the relationship between the presence of an incumbent during the simultaneous district/city level elections in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020 and village financial assistant. Using the village financial assistant data in 2013-2021, this study conducts a random effect model. The results showed that the existence of an incumbent is significantly correlated with an increase in village financial assistant in one or two years prior to election. Meanwhile, in the election year, there is no significant relationship between variables. The PBC took place in the years prior to election.

Using Coleman’s (1988) social capital theory, this study investigated the connection between family and school social capital and the perceived academic competence of students enrolled in Hmongcentric niche charter schools. The study analyzed 124 participants consisting of third, fourth, and fifth-grade students residing in Minnesota, with 93% identifying as Hmong. Results of structural equation modeling showed that school social capital, as measured by school attachment and school connection, is significantly linked to students’ perceived academic competence. Further analyses suggested that school attachment, especially in charter schools that focus on culture and language, plays a more crucial role in shaping students’ …

This study investigates how the enduring popularity and policy achievements of Jokowi shaped voter preferences in favor of Prabowo, effectively positioning the election as a referendum on political continuity. One of the best-known results in panel data econometrics, due to Mundlak (1978), is the equality of the random-effects and fixed-effects estimators when the individual effects are correlated with the means over time of the regressors. Chamberlain (1980) showed that the same result holds when the individual effects are correlated with the regressors for all moments in time separately. Unpredictability in early life is an understudied aspect of early life adversity that provides important signals to the child about their environment. Recent work shows the predictability of patterns of parental signals on a moment-to-moment timescale sculpts the developing brain during sensitive windows, offering a potential pathway through which early life experiences shape child development. Both experimental non-human animal models and observational human research show sex-specific links between early life exposure to unpredictable patterns of parental sensory signals and aberrant offspring development. The Effects Of Input And Characteristic Factors On Contact Rate Achievement Among Puskesmas In Indonesia, Iqbal Andri Makarim, Pujiyanto Pujiyanto

The contact rate is the lowest-performing indicator in the Performance-Based Capitation Payment system initiated by BPJS Kesehatan. Analysis of the 2019 National Health Facility Research (Rifaskes) data showed that less than half of Puskesmas in Indonesia achieved the target. This cross-sectional study analyzed 5,384 Puskesmas from the 2019 Rifaskes to examine the effect of input and characteristic factors on achieving the contact rate. Independent variables included health worker ratios (doctors, nurses, midwives per 5,000 participants), completeness of essential medical equipment, communication facilities, P-Care application use, and Puskesmas characteristics. Multivariate logistic regression identified four significant factors: doctor ratio (OR=1.06; p<0.0001), midwife ratio (OR=1.01; p=0.033), completeness of essential medical equipment (OR=1.16; p=0.029), and BLUD-based financial management (OR=1.13; p=0.029). These factors explained only 2.6% of the variance (Nagelkerke R²=0.026), suggesting other unmeasured influences. Policy implications include equitable distribution of health personnel, targeted procurement of essential equipment, strengthening financial autonomy through BLUD, and optimizing P-Care data utilization to improve service accessibility and performance.

Hospital Management Information System (SIMRS/HMIS) is crucial in ensuring efficiency and quality in hospital services by integrating clinical and administrative functions. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of HMIS at Medan Adventist Hospital in 2025 using the Human-Organization-Technology Fit (HOT-Fit) framework. A descriptive design with total sampling was employed, involving 70 respondents comprising medical records staff, inpatient and outpatient registration staff, and ward officers. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire adapted from a validated instrument (validity 0.690–0.900; reliability 0.841–0.911) and analyzed using descriptive statistics. This research article examines why the racialization of Brazilian jiu-jitsu has so often been invisible to non-Brazilians. It argues that Brazilian jiu-jitsu emerged in a highly racially stratified context and looks in particular at challenge matches that the Gracie family engaged in with fighters who practiced capoeira or judo.  It argues that through these competitions, not only was Brazilian jiu-jitsu located within Brazil’s racial hierarchy, but it was often positioned as ‘white,’ though usually in an unspoken manner. African Swine Fever (ASF) seriously threatens pig production systems, food security, and rural livelihoods across Southeast Asia. This study employs an analysis of secondary national data from Indonesia using a quantitative descriptive analysis approach, complemented by regional policy responses to ASF from 2019 to 2024. To contextualize regional findings, this study also integrates official statistics from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) covering provincial pork production trends (2021–2023), the number of ASF-affected pigs per province (2020–2024), and per capita pork consumption by district. This paper develops a spatial autoregressive stochastic frontier model that allows the spatial weighting matrix to be stochastic. This approach captures spatial heterogeneity in the interactions among production units and quantifies random spatial dependencies arising from this variability. The model parameters are estimated using a simulated maximum likelihood approach. We propose a method to simulate spillover-corrected direct, indirect, and total efficiency estimates. Additionally, we conduct Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate the finite-sample performance of the proposed model. Finally, an empirical application to the efficiency of Spanish dairy farms is presented to demonstrate the practical implementation of our methodology.

This thesis explores how rural communities in Kafr El Sheikh governorate, Egypt, negotiate everyday life with the contamination of Kitchener Drain, the largest agricultural drain in the central Nile Delta. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in three villages at the tail-end end of the drain, the study explores how water contamination shapes social and ecological, social life for farmers living in the catchment of the drain.
