The coastal zone is a critical ecological barrier at the land–sea interface. From the perspective of landscape pattern, this study defines the concept of coastal zone spatial resilience and develops a three-dimensional framework of “structure–process–function”, elucidating its attributes of stability, adaptability, recoverability, and dynamic evolution. The Components of Role-playing in Experiential Learning (CREL) Framework offered a transformative alternative by embedding role-playing mechanics into structured learning environments, enabling participants to embody perspectives beyond their disciplinary boundaries. First, this paper introduced the five core components of the CREL Framework—Scenario, Social Contract, Collaboration, Choice, and Experience—and explained how they function as an integrated system for designing and assessing collaborative learning environments. Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents higher education with both transformative potential and profound risk. While AI-tools can personalize learning and enhance collaboration, they also threaten to erode critical thinking, intellectual independence, and the reflective depth of human inquiry. This conceptual analysis applies transdisciplinary communication (TDC) and educational psychology frameworks to examine how AI integration influences learning, teaching, and institutional practices. Findings highlight that AI-tools can strengthen collaboration, automate administrative tasks, and promote inclusivity across languages and disciplines. However, overreliance on automation risks reducing empathy, ethical reasoning, and creativity. This phenomenological study explored the experiences of 11 school counselor supervisors whose supervisees were exposed to student suicide. We found five themes: prioritizing emotional support, suicide self-efficacy, supervisors’ reaction to suicide, identifying systemic issues in schools, and school counseling professional identity issues. Implications for counselor educators and supervisors are discussed.

We explored 18 mental health counselor trainees’ (MHCT) experiences regarding the focus of supervision they received in Integrated Behavioral Health settings. Utilizing Q methodology, we obtained Clinical Skill Development as a Counselor and Interdisciplinary Team Membership as the main areas of trainees’ supervision focus. More specifically, counselor trainees identified developing clinical skills related to client care, case conceptualization, and the delivery of clinical services, as well as strengthening their professional identity while integrating into an interdisciplinary team, as critical areas of their supervision. We discussed the findings along with practical and research implications as well as limitations of the study.

Researchers in the counseling field have alerted practitioners and counselor education professionals to the need for enhanced training related to supporting individuals with disabilities, namely intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD; Feather & Carlson, 2019). As more individuals with IDD attend college, these emerging adults are specifically in need of counselors with skills and competencies to support their mental health. This paper describes a collaborative, mutually beneficial initiative between a counselor education program and an inclusive postsecondary education program to address the scarcity of personnel prepared to work with individuals with IDD.

While attachment informs the quality of the therapeutic relationship, which is the basis of all therapeutic work for professional counselors and related mental health professionals (MHPs), less attention has been given to the role of attachment in MHPs’ non-therapeutic roles such as engagement in professional development, teaching, and supervision. This systematic review analyzed 33 research studies that investigated MHPs’ attachment in the context of non-therapeutic roles, including professional development, supervision, and teaching. Findings are discussed in the context of four emergent themes: Professional Functioning and Well-being, Supervisory Relationships, Self-awareness, and Empathy. We conducted a Qualitative Content Analysis (QCA) content analysis of handbooks (N=54) from CACREP-accredited doctoral counselor education and supervision programs. The purpose of this study was to better understand how counselor education programs communicate remediation policies and procedures and what specific elements are included in handbooks. Our findings revealed that while dismissal policies, dispositions, due process, and evaluation procedures were commonly included, there was significant variability in the inclusion of other domains, such as retention policies and definitions of remediation. Notably, only one handbook included all ten documented domains. The study highlights a need for more comprehensive and standardized remediation …

Securing The Future: Strengthening Gun Safety Laws To Protect Our Youth, Clare Lilyestrom

This study explores the impact of child access prevention (CAP) laws on firearm-related deaths in the United States, analyzing the relationship between CAP laws and the corresponding firearm death rates by state. To evaluate the strength of each state’s CAP laws, each state was given a number from 0 (no law) to 3 (strongest protection). Firearm death rates were recorded as “n per 100,000” population. We performed a linear regression analysis that found a significant association between the strongest and moderate CAP laws and firearm deaths (strong = 3) -β = -14.0, p < .01; (moderate = 2) -( β = -7.4, p < .001) respectively. There was no significant difference between states with minimal protections (weak = 1) and those without CAP laws (none = 0). These results highlight that simply having a CAP law is insufficient; the strength of the law is a critical factor. This is further supported by the model, which showed that 43% of the variation in firearm deaths was directly linked to the strength of CAP laws. However, challenges such as gaps in enforcement, public awareness, and inconsistent legislation remain barriers. This paper proposes three key policy actions: (1) standardizing CAP laws nationwide, (2) requiring mandatory safe storage education for all firearm owners, and (3) expanding federal background checks to address purchase loopholes. Strengthening these areas would be a huge step toward reducing gun violence in the United States, particularly among youth.
