Autonomous Control And Signal Acquisition System, Rion Krampe Nov 2021

Autonomous Control And Signal Acquisition System, Rion Krampe

Scholars Week

Dr. Bunget has an autonomous control and signal acquisition system that he wants to be repaired and improved upon. This requires that we identify the current issues with the system and repair them as well as make innovations to the system to meet customer needs. The position control needs to be autonomous, and the acquisition of the oscilloscope signal and the transducer position needs to be synchronous. The user should be able to control the position, speed, and how often the signals are captured. The waveform of the scan should be appended into a spreadsheet. The system code also needs …

Ee-Acml: Energy-Efficient Adiabatic Cmos/Mtj Logic For Cpa-Resistant Iot Devices, Zachary Kahleifeh, Himanshu Thapliyal

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Internet of Things (IoT) devices have strict energy constraints as they often operate on a battery supply. The cryptographic operations within IoT devices consume substantial energy and are vulnerable to a class of hardware attacks known as side-channel attacks. To reduce the energy consumption and defend against side-channel attacks, we propose combining adiabatic logic and Magnetic Tunnel Junctions to form our novel Energy Efficient-Adiabatic CMOS/MTJ Logic (EE-ACML). EE-ACML is shown to be both low energy and secure when compared to existing CMOS/MTJ architectures. EE-ACML reduces dynamic energy consumption with adiabatic logic, while MTJs reduce the leakage power of a circuit. …

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Separating the HVAC energy use from the total residential load can be used to improve energy usage monitoring and to enhance the house energy management systems (HEMS) for existing houses that do not have dedicated HVAC circuits. In this paper, a novel method is proposed to separate the HVAC dominant load component from the house load. The proposed method utilizes deep learning techniques and the physical relationship between HVAC energy use and weather. It employs novel long short-term memory (LSTM) encoder-decoder machine learning (ML) models, which are developed based on future weather data input in place of weather forecasts. In …

Modeling Electrokinetics Of Oxygen Electrodes In Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Cells, Korey Cook, Jacob Wrubel, Zhiwen Ma, Kevin Huang, Xinfang Jin

Faculty Publications

A microscale model is presented in this study to simulate electrode kinetics of the oxygen electrode in a solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC). Two mixed ionic/electronic conducting structures are examined for the oxygen producing electrode in this work: single layer porous lanthanum strontium cobalt ferrite (LSCF), and bilayer LSCF/SCT (strontium cobalt tantalum oxide) structures. A yttrium-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte separates the hydrogen and oxygen electrodes, as well as a gadolinium doped-ceria (GDC) buffer layer on the oxygen electrode side. Electrochemical reactions occurring at the two-phase boundaries (2PBs) and three-phase boundaries (3PBs) of single-layer LSCF and bilayer LSCF/SCT oxygen electrodes are …

Modeling The Dynamics Of Charged Nanoparticles In Inverted Dielectric Systems For Exploration Of Novel Tunable Materials, Etee Kawna Roy Nov 2021

Modeling The Dynamics Of Charged Nanoparticles In Inverted Dielectric Systems For Exploration Of Novel Tunable Materials, Etee Kawna Roy

Student Theses and Dissertations

The electrostatic force plays an important role in charged particles’ self-assembly in inverted dielectric systems. The non-linear interactions between higher order multipoles are held responsible for the minimum energy equilibria formation of the dielectric particles. In this thesis, we use dynamic modeling of electrostatic interactions of charged particles and show that multiple nanoparticles can bind in minimum energy configurations exclusively by electrostatic forces that dominate at short distances in an inverted dielectric environment. It is also seen that the approximate model cannot explain the anomalous interactions for all binary clusters. Moreover, while an analytical model provides proper explanation for these …

Needle In A Haystack: Detecting Subtle Malicious Edits To Additive Manufacturing G-Code Files, Caleb Beckwith, Harsh Sankar Naicker, Svara Mehta, Viba R. Udupa, Nghia Tri Nim, Varun Gadre, Hammond Pearce, Gary Mac

Publications and Research

Increasing usage of Digital Manufacturing (DM) in safety-critical domains is increasing attention on the cybersecurity of the manufacturing process, as malicious third parties might aim to introduce defects in digital designs. In general, the DM process involves creating a digital object (as CAD files) before using a slicer program to convert the models into printing instructions (e.g. g-code) suitable for the target printer. As the g-code is an intermediate machine format, malicious edits may be difficult to detect, especially when the golden (original) models are not available to the manufacturer. In this work we aim to quantify this hypothesis through …

Growth, Characterization, And Mechanical Testing Of Diamond-Like Carbon Films, Tailei Qi Nov 2021

Growth, Characterization, And Mechanical Testing Of Diamond-Like Carbon Films, Tailei Qi

LSU Master's Theses

The high residual stresses within diamond-like carbon (DLC) films limit its thickness and make the film tend to delaminate from the substrate and be defective on the surface. To address this problem, a new plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition system (PECVD) was set up to investigate the effects of different film growth parameters on the DLC films, such as chromium doping, gas fluxes, depositing pressures, bias voltages, and depositing times. After the film growth parameters were optimized, this condition was transferred from silicon wafer to SS316 steel plate to deposition of DLC films with some adjustments. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) …

Cfd Simulations Of Macroscopic And Microscopic Multiphase Fluid Flow And Droplet Interaction, Aaron Harrington

LSU Master's Theses

Multiphase flow is a complex phenomenon which can be modeled on numerous different length scales, both macroscopically and microscopically. The use of a Euler-Euler model for Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations of subcooled boiling phenomena is discussed in detail. The CFD conditions have been set up to mimic previous experimental conditions. A cylindrical vessel with subcooled liquid flow is heated along part of the axial wall of the vessel. A constant heat flux is applied to produce subcooled boiling. We discuss the development of the phase change within the vessel as well as the temperature profile, and validate the results …

Ehr Data Management: Hyperledger Fabric-Based Health Data Storing And Sharing, Md Jobair Hossain Faruk, Hossain Shahriar, Maria Valero

Symposium of Student Scholars

Despite the type of industry, data sharing has always been a concern across the globe within the conventional database model; particularly in the healthcare industry, where the lack of data interoperability in existing applications creates not only security and transparency issues in EHR but also cost-related concerns that impact the quality of patient care. Without adopting novel and emerging technologies that allow patients to store and share EHR data within a tamper-evident, immutable, and secure data storing and sharing network, this current problem could not be resolved. Emerging Hyperledger Fabric-based Blockchain technology can be an ideal solution to address these …

Joint Latency-Energy Optimization Scheme For Offloading In Mobile Edge Computing Environment Based In Deep Reinforcement Learning, Jui Mhatre Nov 2021

Joint Latency-Energy Optimization Scheme For Offloading In Mobile Edge Computing Environment Based In Deep Reinforcement Learning, Jui Mhatre

Symposium of Student Scholars

With the increasing number of mobile devices (MD), IoT devices, and computation-intensive tasks deployed on these devices, there is a need to increase the efficiency and speed of the deliverable. Due to inadequate resources, it is infeasible to compute all the tasks locally. Similarly, due to time constraints, it is not possible to compute the entire task at a remote site. Edge computing (EC) and cloud computing (CC) play the role of providing the resources to these devices on the fly. But a major drawback is increased delay and energy consumption due to transmission and offloading of computation tasks to …

Simulation Of Pedestrian In Multifunctional Passageway Of Metro Station Area Based On Social Force Model, Wang Xi, Zhang Rui, Fei Shuo, Minghang Yang Nov 2021

Simulation Of Pedestrian In Multifunctional Passageway Of Metro Station Area Based On Social Force Model, Wang Xi, Zhang Rui, Fei Shuo, Minghang Yang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Transitional passageway connecting subway stations and commercial facilities is generally designed as the multifunctional passageway, in which the traffic function is the main and the service function is the auxiliary. The impact of the service facilities on both sides of the passage on pedestrian traffic is difficult to be quantitatively analyzed and simulated and modeled. Through measurement, it is found that the viscous effect of service facilities on pedestrian traffic is mainly slowing down the speed or changing the trajectory direction. Through analyzing the horizontal influence range of service facilities, dividing the passage into different areas, and introducing the …

Midcourse Guidance Method Based On Fading Memory Filter For Intercepting Near-Space Gliding Target, Yonghua Fan, Yilun Huangfu, Xiaowen Guo, Chenlu Li, Guofei Li

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Aiming at the interception of hypersonic gliding target in near space, a sliding mode guidance law based on fading memory filtering algorithm is proposed. The accurate motion parameters of the hypersonic target are obtained based on the current statistical model fading memory EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) algorithm. Based on the filtering information and sliding mode control theory, a sliding mode guidance law is designed to adjust the interception trajectory online according to the target maneuver law. The simulation results show that the proposed fading memory filtering algorithm can effectively track the gliding target with high filtering accuracy. For a …

Sino-Indian Border Disputes In An Era Of Strategic Expansions, Roman Muzalevsky

The US Army War College Quarterly: Parameters

The June 2020 clash between the People’s Republic of China and India in the disputed Ladakh border area resulted from the strategic expansions of both powers. Like two bubbles expanding in a contained space, these expansions were bound to collide and cause friction. This article explains how the expansions precipitated the incident and might exacerbate border disputes in the future. In pondering implications, it recommends Washington pursue a Eurasia-focused policy embracing the disputed region.

The Air Littoral: Another Look, Maximilian K. Bremer, Kelly A. Grieco

The US Army War College Quarterly: Parameters

Assessing threats to the air littoral, the airspace between ground forces and high-end fighters and bombers, requires a paradigm change in American military thinking about verticality. This article explores the consequences of domain convergence, specifically for the Army and Air Force’s different concepts of control. It will assist US military and policy practitioners in conceptualizing the air littoral and in thinking more vertically about the air and land domains and the challenges of domain convergence.

Single-Frame Image Motion Parallax Key Point Estimation Combined With Self-Supervised Learning, Zhihao Huo, Weidong Jin, Tang Peng

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The motion parallax key point FOE (Focus of Expansion) is an important parameter of railway catenary video inspection. The current method of calculating FOE requires multi-frame image matching estimation, which has high time complexity. Aiming at the single-frame image FOE estimation, a single-frame image FOE estimation algorithm fused with self-supervised learning is proposed. A full convolutional network F-VGG(Fully-Visual Geometry Group) is built as the FOE predictor, and the training label of the sample data is automatically generated through the fusion agent task, which realizes the end-to-end single-frame image FOE estimation. The experimental results show that the method has an …
