Extending the utility of an existing water supply in any river basin suggests a management-planning approach under three general guiding principles: (1) minimize depletions wherever possible (thereby maintaining a greater manageable quantity with subsequent potential to satisfy more uses); (2) generally preserve, protect, and improve water quality (thereby retaining its itility for use by a wider variety of potential users); and (3) make carefully considered allocations (thereby assuring multiples duty, more optimal sequencing, and shifts in use to conform to current and projected soil preferences). Recommendations for woody plant materials to be used in direct seeding are given on the basis of the plant's ability to regenerate from roots and natural seedings. Species are recommended for each of the relief and drainage subdivisions of the study area, southeastern Kentucky. Plant information on recommended native species has been summarized to provide basic data relevant to or needed by the highway landscape designer in selecting native plant combinations to be used in direct seeding.

This study represents the first phase of an investigation to develop an operational simulation model of the point snowmelt process based on a time increment of one day or less. Mathematical relationships for various phenomena involved in the snowmelt process were proposed and tested. These relationships were combined into a model which is applicable to any geographic locations by determining appropriate constants for certain relationships. The model was synthesized on a hybrid computer and calibrated using field data from the Central Sierra Snow Laboratory. It was then tested with data from other well instrumented locations. "Pigmented bacteria have been of interest to the microbiologist for several years. The pigmented organisms in sewage have been known to gain predominance, but no investigations have been made to determine whether the pigment assists the organism in gaining predominance. During this study a number of bacteria which produced a water soluble pigment were isolated from sewage. These bacteria were grown in shaken flasks using tryptone Glucose extract broth as a medium. Described here is a linear code that has a maximum distance between codewords of k for a code of order 2k. Since the minimum-maximum distance is k for a code of order 2k, a class of minimum-maximum distance codes results. For an (n,k) linear code, k ≤ n ≤ k + k∣2 for k even and k ≤ n ≤ k + (k - 1)/2 for k odd. Maximum-distance codes are found useful in encoding the states of sequential circuits. © 1971, IEEE. First the B-H characteristic, Q-factor and initial permeability were measured at different frequencies and the relative-loss factor was determined from the above results. The samples prepared were in the shape of toroids of approximately 8.0 cm of mean length and were wound with standard insulated number 38 wire. A straight line plot of void ratio versus logarithm of time was established in secondary consolidation for long term loading periods up to one month. Temperature changes within the range of 5ºC. to 45ºC. were studied in the secondary consolidation phase at different stress levels and different carbon contents of the soil. "Intrinsic viscosity measurements were performed on linear polyethylene (Marlex 6009) in decalin at 135ºC and in diphenyl ether at 163.9ºC. Molecular weights ranging from 3x10³ to 35x10⁴ were studied. It was found that for linear polyethylene of molecular weight up to 35x10⁴, the tedious intrinsic viscosity measurement could be replaced by inherent viscosity measurement at a concentration of 0.1 grams per deciliter. The effect of shear on viscosities measured in decalin increased as the molecular weight of the sample increased. The shear rate effects on intrinsic viscosities were negligible. On the other hand, the shear rate effect on the Huggins' …

"An investigation was conducted to determine the influence of member length on thermal contact resistance in a vacuum environment. A model was created which consisted of a center rod axially loaded between two other members. It was assumed that circular macroscopic constriction areas were formed at the contact interface when the rods were loaded. Macroscopic modeling of the contact surfaces makes the thermal contact analysis a function of the mechanical and thermal boundary conditions of the total body.
