A hybrid computer program is developed to predict the water and salt outflow from a river basin in which irrigation is the major water user. A chemical model which predicts the quality of water percolated through a soil profile is combined with a general hydrologic model into form the system simulation model. The chemical model considers the reactions that occur in the soil, including the exchange of calcium, magnesium, and sodium cations on the soil complex, and the dissolution and precipitation of gypsum and lime. Introduction: Quantitative data on nutrient levels in sewage from homes which are using heavy-duty detergents and which have been restrcited from using such detergents is necessary before rational decisions on the removal of phosphorus from detergetn can be made. Furthermore, the effect of various standard sewage treatment schemes on phosphorus levels should be evaluated to determine the relative cost of such treatment. Then the cost (to society, the environment, and to the taxpayer) of phosphorus removal from detergent and/or from sewage effluents can be estimated and such data utilized to make the appropriate policy decisions. The Great Salt Lake Desert, located in the southwest corner of the State of Utah"is a very dry region with sparse population and relatively small scattered areas of development. Since only a meager amount of hydrologic data has been collected and compiled for this relatively undeveloped area, the inventory presented herein is but a general appraisal of hydrologic conditions. Because of the small amount of development that has taken place and the general lack of hydrologic data, a water budget analysis is included for the Tooele Valley only.

"The design characteristics of equipment to thermally weaken and mechanically fragment hard rock were developed and the apparatus constructed. An initial investigation of thermo-mechanical fragmentation was conducted on Missouri red granite. The particles from the fragmentation tests were sized and this analysis was used in the Rittinger theory to calculate surface area breakage energy. It was found that the application of thermal energy could reduce the surface area breakage energy per unit volume of material removed by as much as 41 percent. "Thermal expansion and the Pm3m t Fm3m transition of cesium chloride have been studied with high temperature diffractometry, differential thermal analysis, and heating and quenching techniques. The onset temperature of the transition in pure CsCl, on heating, is 471ºC. There are no observable premonitory effects below the transition temperature and no apparent structural relationships between the polymorphs is apparent. Both phases coexist over a 20º to 50ºC temperature range and equilibrium thermal hysteresis occurs on heating and cooling. "The volumetric data for methane, nitrogen, and helium mixtures have been determined experimentally at low temperatures (60ºF to -30ºF) over a pressure range of 1000 to 5000 psig. An attempt has been made to show that the extension of standard techniques viz, "The Law of Corresponding States" for predicting the compressibility factors of pure hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon mixtures is not adequate for mixtures containing even very small amounts of helium. The deviation from the computed compressibility factors is found to be maximum at low temperatures and high pressures (up to 22%) for the mixtures studied"--Abstract, page ii.

Three methods were investigated for determining the correction factors for the thermal gradient effects in the gas pycnometer. To accomplish this objective, chemically-treated activated sludge or a mixture of the secondary sludge with primary sludge were thickened and dewatered by vacuum filtration and centrifugation. The putrescibility of the dewatered secondary sludge was also evaluated, and since anaerobic digestion is the usual method of sludge treatment, a digestion study was conducted.
