Performance Prediction Of Computer Science Students In Capstone Software Engineering Course Through Educational Data Mining, Muhammad Safeer Khan, Mohamed Ibrahim, Syed Ali Haider Jul 2021

Performance Prediction Of Computer Science Students In Capstone Software Engineering Course Through Educational Data Mining, Muhammad Safeer Khan, Mohamed Ibrahim, Syed Ali Haider

Faculty Publications - Curriculum & Instruction

Educational data mining has been extensively used to predict students’ performance in university courses to plan improvements in teaching and learning processes, achieve academic goals, and timely support interventions. Computer Science (CS) courses focus on promoting problem solving skills through writing of software code and developing solutions using computing technologies. Within a four-year CS curriculum, the sequencing of courses is deliberately designed so that knowledge gained in a prerequisite lower level course is critical for success in upper-level courses. Overall, the CS curriculum prepares the students for a capstone experience in a final year Software Engineering (SE) course. The student …

The Experiencing Scale: An Experiential Learning Gauge Of Engagement In Learning, Karen L. Stock, David Kolb Jul 2021

The Experiencing Scale: An Experiential Learning Gauge Of Engagement In Learning, Karen L. Stock, David Kolb

Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education

A major premise of experiential learning practices is that experience is necessary for learning, yet our understanding of the concept of experience and its role in learning remains unclear. This study examines the experiencing process in experiential learning and formulates a conceptual foundation for the experiencing concept that integrates insights from four contemporary traditions of experiencing research: Focusing, Flow, Mindfulness and Absorption. Empirical validation is tested with the construction of The Experiencing Scale, a self-reported gauge of one’s level of experiencing in a given context. The Experiencing Scale instrument was distributed to undergraduate students following participation in an experiential classroom …

Exploring The Catalyst Energizing The Kolb Learning Cycle, Marc Behrendt, Krisanna Machtmes Jul 2021

Exploring The Catalyst Energizing The Kolb Learning Cycle, Marc Behrendt, Krisanna Machtmes

Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education

This paper reveals an interconnectedness of three unrelated free-standing but validated models: Kolb’s model of experiential learning, Hidi and Renninger’s model of interest development, and National Research Council’s ecological framework of an experience. The physical, academic, and social aspects define the quality of the experience. The interest stimulated by the experience drives Kolb’s learning cycle. The learning cycle will continue as long as interest is maintained. Together, these three models describe the quality of the experience, the cyclic processing of the experience to create knowledge, and the force driving the cycle.

Coaching And Experiential Learning In An Mba Leadership Certificate Program, Stephanie Thomason, Kamilla Andersen Jul 2021

Coaching And Experiential Learning In An Mba Leadership Certificate Program, Stephanie Thomason, Kamilla Andersen

Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education

In turbulent economic times, tuition-driven universities often search for impactful ways to differentiate themselves from their competitors. Differentiators may be particularly important in MBA programs, which are among the more lucrative academic offerings. The present study tracked participant reflections from the coaching component of an MBA leadership certificate program through Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle (concrete experience, reflections, abstract conceptualizations, active experimentation) and the coaches’ roles during the cycle as educators. We paired participants with professional coaches and community leaders so they could create and achieve their goals and action plans. During their time meeting with their coaches (concrete experiences), 70 …

Entrepreneurship Education And Experiential Learning In Higher Education, Sophia N. Koustas, Elham Shahidi Salehi Jul 2021

Entrepreneurship Education And Experiential Learning In Higher Education, Sophia N. Koustas, Elham Shahidi Salehi

Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education

Entrepreneurship education (EE) and experiential learning can be delivered in several ways depending on the program design, the course's purpose, and the learning outcomes. With the distinct stages of doing, observing, thinking, and planning, Kolb's experiential learning theory is favored in EE. Additionally, EE programs and courses can be categorized in the three instructional themes of teaching about, for, or through entrepreneurship. Each theme offers a particular purpose, unique learning objectives, specific teaching methodology, and different student engagement levels. Due to the various references to EE, this exploratory qualitative study presents five selected entrepreneurship project course examples at Southern New …

Experiential Learning Through Short-Term Study Abroad: A Business Approach, Thomas S. Mondschean, Melissa Markley Rountree Jul 2021

Experiential Learning Through Short-Term Study Abroad: A Business Approach, Thomas S. Mondschean, Melissa Markley Rountree

Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education

Excerpt

Passarelli and Kolb (2012) suggest that an experiential education model can be useful in designing and assessing study abroad programs. As business school professors in the Driehaus College of Business at DePaul University who direct and assess short-term study abroad programs, we could not agree more. Our global framework not only encourages students to leave their comfort zones and experience unfamiliar cultural environments, but they are also provided with opportunities to explore issues of academic and business interest with academic, governmental, business, and non-business leaders in other countries. Moreover, they can also observe how public and private organizations operate …

Aacp Basic Resources For Pharmacy Education, Jason Guy, Ivan Portillo, Robert D. Beckett, Leslie Ann Bowman, Daisy De La Rosa, Vern Duba, Juanita Draime, Kayce Gill, Neyda Gilman, Rebecca Hoover, Alison Kosnieczny, Scott Perkins

Library Association/Organization Work

"The AACP Basic Resources for Pharmacy Education is produced as a guide for those developing or maintaining the library collections that serve colleges and schools of pharmacy. The goal of the Basic Resources list is to make recommendations of books and other works to be included in pharmacy libraries, but not all titles are required to be purchased. Each pharmacy college has its own mission and its own program(s), and so each college’s library collection must reflect that mission and support the college’s program(s). Excellent library collections are built by knowledgeable librarians and drug information specialists using their professional judgment …
