The Relationship Between Shoulder Mobility And Upper Body Muscle Mass On 2-Rm Bench Press Performance, Raquel J. Cavazos, Francesca Aquilino, Ernesto Balderrama, Chaehyun Byun, Shelby Gerner, Cheyenne Martinez, Austin Riffe, Vipa Bernhardt, Michael D. Oldham

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

INTRODUCTION: Upper body strength is one of the most important factors in American football and thus tested frequently. However, strength may come at the cost of mobility as recent studies have reported an inverse relationship between shoulder range of motion (ROM) and strength, with an increase in strength causing a decrease in ROM (Shitara et al., 2022). PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine if upper body muscle mass or shoulder mobility are associated with two-repetition max (2-RM) bench press performance in collegiate football players. METHODS: Data from 80 Division I varsity football players (20.5 ± 1.4 …

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Hamstring injuries are one of the most common injuries sustained in professional football with 800+ hamstring injuries per year. These hamstring injuries often occur between late swing (eccentric contraction) and early ground contact. PURPOSE: To investigate the correlation of eccentric hamstring strength to muscle volume across positional groups. METHODS: Athletes were divided into three homogeneous groups based on position (big (e.g., linemen), skill (e.g., receivers), combo (e.g., linebackers)). Seventy-three NCAA Division I football players participated (24 big, 37 skill, and 12 combo). Hamstring strength was collected for each leg while performing 3 Nordic curls on a Nordbord device. The peak …

“Make The Big Time Where You Are” Applying The Coaching Principles Of Frosty Westering To Build A Culture Of Success, Steven Stoker

WWU Graduate School Collection

Building a culture that allows sustained success is the goal of any organization. While an organization may have a period of success, few have sustained success. In some cases, however, success is sustained. This is the case for the Pacific Lutheran University football team under the leadership of head coach Frosty Westering. As the head football coach, Frosty Westering won four national titles. He is also a member of the college football hall of fame. How did he continue to be successful over time? This study attempts to answer that question.

A qualitative, multiple case study research methodology with a …

Exploring The Cognitive, Environmental, And Behavioral Factors That Impact Concussion Reporting Behavior In Division Iii Football Players, Brandon T. Wright Jan 2023

Exploring The Cognitive, Environmental, And Behavioral Factors That Impact Concussion Reporting Behavior In Division Iii Football Players, Brandon T. Wright

All ETDs from UAB

Purpose: This dissertation applies Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) to understand concussion reporting behavior in D-III football players and explores the culture of concussion reporting through qualitative ethnography. Using the SCT constructs, the study investigates the cognitive, environmental, and behavioral factors influencing concussion reporting in D-III football players. The lack of research on how reciprocal determinism affects concussion reporting at the most vulnerable level of competition provides an opportunity to examine the cultural context of concussion reporting. The goal is to develop theoretically-based interventions that increase concussion reporting and change cultural narratives concerning concussion reporting behavior in under-resourced institutions. Methods: This …

The Impact Of Deaf Players' Communication Device With Coach (Patent 6701) On Directing Management In Football Match, Ala' Jabar Abood, Nahida Abed Zaid Baeiw

Journal of STEPS for Humanities and Social Sciences

The football coach manages the match by directing his players and exerting a great effort in this mission. However, this effort is duplicated with those unhealthy players, such as those who challenge with their disabilities (deaf category). In fact, the coach sometimes finds himself unable to deliver the instructions to his players in the critical moments of the match because they do not pay attention to him since they are busy with the match. This is because they suffer from lack of communication due to their hearing loss. Thus, the research aims to state the impact of the innovative electronic …

The Impact Of Deaf Players' Communication Device With Referee (Patent 6738) On Time Management In Football Match, Ala' Jabar Abood

Journal of STEPS for Humanities and Social Sciences

Sports scientists have been interested in the game of football, and technology has entered it, through the introduction of many devices and tools, which help to find a solution to its problems, and to develop it, the latest of which is the video referee technology (VAR), which achieves justice in some of the decisions taken by the referee during the match. The game of football is played by deaf players, and the same rules of the game are applied to them that apply to normal players, but a referee carries a flag with the whistle, to warn them when a …

The Effect Of Maxex Exercises In Developing Some Of The Bio Kinematic Variables, Physical Abilities, And Scoring Accuracy For Football Players, Ameer Fahim Mohsen, Diaa Jaber Mohamed, Alia Hussein Daham Sep 2022

The Effect Of Maxex Exercises In Developing Some Of The Bio Kinematic Variables, Physical Abilities, And Scoring Accuracy For Football Players, Ameer Fahim Mohsen, Diaa Jaber Mohamed, Alia Hussein Daham

Journal of STEPS for Humanities and Social Sciences

The importance of the research lies in preparing MAXEX exercises and knowing their impact on some biomechanical variables and physical abilities that are directly involved in the performance of the scoring skill on the goal in football.

The research problem is that players did not use the correct motor paths represented by the biomechanical rules and the physical abilities through which the player can implement the scoring skill successfully with a high accuracy towards the goal. The researchers believe that the reason for this is the lack of using exercises commensurate with the football scoring skill by coaches. The research …
