Nasal breathing (NB) is gaining popularity in exercise routines to enhance performance and overall health. However, its effects on intracellular and extracellular inflammatory cytokines, which are crucial to the immune response, remain unclear. PURPOSE: This study examined the acute responses of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs – representing intracellular cytokines) and plasma (representing extracellular cytokines) following maximal aerobic exercise with NB. Mental stress superimposed on prolonged sitting is a common encounter. Both conditions are known to induce vascular dysfunction and impair executive function. While physical activity during sitting can mitigate these adverse effects, such activity is not always permissible for college students studying for important exams and office workers approaching critical deadlines. Given the extensive shoulder movements in athletes who perform overhead movements, it was anticipated that these athletes would present with stronger shoulders that could achieve a greater range of motion. PURPOSE: This study examined shoulder range of motion (ROM) and isometric strength in internal (IR) and external (ER) rotation in overhead (OH) and non-overhead (NO) athletes. Technology for apps that track health is becoming more popular, and many of these apps have not been examined for reliability. PURPOSE: to assess reliability of a commercially available body scanning app for body composition. METHODS: Thirty-two participants (age= 25.9±9.1 years, height= 165.5±10.9 cm, weight= 79.0±20.6 kg) had body composition measured using the MeThreeSixty app two times between three and seven days apart. CASE HISTORY: The patient was a 21-year old right-handed collegiate female volleyball player who presented with chronic shoulder pain in her dominant shoulder, which began approximately five years ago. Her previous assessment and treatment included x-rays and MRI imaging, several joint injections, and daily rehabilitation in an attempt to manage her symptoms. Therapeutic aquatic exercise can be extremely beneficial when aiming to take pressure off of the back and lower extremities because water is proven to better support body weight and relieve joint stress. Aquatic therapy has also been seen to affect overall motor function, spasticity, and quality of life. PURPOSE: This study aimed to generate a novel two-compartment model equation for air displacement plethysmography to estimate body fat percentage (PBF) in a Hispanic population.
