First-generation (FG) college students navigate higher education as both participants and disruptors in an institutional system that privileges dominant forms of cultural capital. This study explores how FG students develop place identity at a private university in the northeastern United States, examining how they interpret and negotiate the campus environment and the capital exchanges inherent to the space. Using Bourdieu’s theory of cultural capital and Yosso’s Community Cultural Wealth model, this research critically interrogates how students leverage, preserve, and redefine capital within an academic landscape shaped by neoliberal values. This contribution sheds light on the teaching of non-linguistic subjects in Morocco, particularly at the level of first-year junior high school (our target population). We have made a comparative study between the public and private sectors while focusing on the different Moroccan educational reforms, most specifically, the strategic vision 2015-2030, and the framework law 51.17.

Background: Traction of the optic disc occurs during incomplete detachment of the posterior vitreous from the peripapillary glial tissue. It can sometimes cause the appearance of disc edema and bilateral cases can be confused with papilledema or cause patients to be worked up for pseudotumor cerebri.

Case Report: A patient presented with an outside diagnosis of unilateral optic disc edema and was found in fact to have vitreopapillary traction.

Conclusion: Costly, ultimately unnecessary testing such as magnetic resonance imaging can be sometimes avoided if vitreopapillary traction is considered as a differential for disc edema. It can be easily identified with …

We analyzed YouTube videos about intrauterine devices (IUDs) to evaluate the information being shared. Using Apify, we scraped videos and randomly selected 30 videos and used a random number table to find 5 videos for review using the DISCERN scale. We also assessed interrater reliability to average DISCERN scale across raters. On average, the videos were 5 minutes and 28 seconds long, with varying view counts and low likes. Most videos were positive, despite mentioning negative side effects of IUDs, but none addressed insertion pain, which was a concern of patients in prior studies. The shortest video had the most …

These texts shaped my time as a middle and high school English teacher, as well as my time as a doctoral student. Immigration to Canada brings cultural diversity, but also stressors and challenges that impact mental well-being. Spirituality recognizes the profound significance of relational knowing, manifesting in external appreciation for meaningful experiences with others that provide purpose. Despite the importance of faith in many immigrants' lives, mental health professionals often overlook spiritual and religious convictions. This descriptive qualitative study addressed this gap by conducting semi-structured interviews with 10 immigrant clients of faith in a diverse Canadian province. There is something odd about teaching religious history in collegiate classrooms. Most academic historians agree that religion is central to the history of any society, yet discussions of religious history or even religious culture are strikingly peripheral to historical narratives taught in college classrooms. Instructors frequently sidestep religion, deeming it too personal and divisive for an objective, scientific study so frequently associated with the academic field of history.

Decolonizing spiritual engagement in human connections involves reimagining how we challenge relational epistemology, overcome relational dissonance, and discover relational value. By transcending individual religious frameworks, we access a deeper, collective spirituality that bridges divides. Relational spiritual knowing taps into the core of our humanity, fostering connections even to those with whom we seem to disagree at every turn and with whom we share no obvious bond. A US study has explored the different reasons why pre-service teachers (PSTs) decided to pursue a teaching career. Researchers analysed roughly 2,800 essay responses and identified 10 ‘supertopics’. The most common supertopic, appearing in nearly 60% of essays, was ’altruism’, followed by ‘intrinsic motivation’. This infographic gives an overview of the results.
