This interview with Eric Mortensen, Professor of Religious Studies at Guilford College, was conducted by Anna Kelly as a part of her study, Whole Human Pedagogy: A Novel Framework for Education Abroad Praxis (2024). In this interview, Kelly and Mortensen discuss holistic pedagogy, largely referencing Mortensen’s experience leading religious studies study abroad programs in Asia. They touch on the themes of embodiment, emotions, relationality, and the purpose of holistic teaching and learning in international education. This interview was conducted with IRB approval.

This documentation is the revised and translated version of the 2024 article Augusto Boals Forumtheater im Deutschunterricht (Eikel-Pohen 2024). It features new observations from the second iteration of a Forum Theater project in a GER 202 language and culture class from 2025 and is again based on autoethnographic notes (Rodriguez-Mejia 2023: 71). It documents the revised application of Augusto Boal’s Forum Theater applied to language and cultural teaching in a socially critical, holistic, cooperative, intercultural, and practical way. Leveraging Ai To Democratize The Hidden Curriculum In Medical Education: An Implementation Framework, James Keith Martin Ii, Mercedes Byrd

The “hidden curriculum” in medical education—comprising unwritten rules, values, and expectations—significantly impacts student success, yet remains inaccessible to students from underrepresented backgrounds. This paper presents a theoretical framework and practical implementation strategy for using artificial intelligence (AI) to democratize access to this hidden curriculum. We analyze how cognitive load theory and the Fast/Slow Thinking paradigm explain inequities in professional integration, then propose a comprehensive implementation approach to guide equitable AI integration. This model demonstrates how AI tools, when thoughtfully implemented, can reduce cognitive burdens on disadvantaged students, accelerate professional acculturation, and contribute to building an inclusive medical workforce.

Re-membering Culture: Erasure and Renewal in Hmong American Education is a valuable contribution to the growing field of critical Hmong studies and education studies in general. This ethnographic study critically examines power dynamics between U.S. schools and Hmong Americans by centering narratives that highlight Hmong knowledge systems. The book provides insights from over 50 Hmong American leaders, parents, students, and district staff (Hmong and non-Hmong) that exemplifies re-membering, the recovery of culture and history to reclaim rights, space, and voice in the present. Introduction: Person-centered, trauma-informed care (PCTIC) is a combined, holistic service model promoting the well-being and empowerment of trauma survivors.

Purpose: This study examined the PCTIC knowledge, skills, and abilities needed by West Virginia (WV) Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) direct service professionals (DSPs) to serve clients that may have experienced trauma.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with diverse stakeholders (n = 32) from 19 organizations that provide HCBS services in all 55 counties. Interviews focused on identifying current training, needs and knowledge gaps, and priority areas for additional PCTIC training. ATLAS.ti software was used to manage and code. Validity …

Background: This study examined the integration of formal debriefing in athletic training clinical education, addressing a gap in understanding its role during the transition to professional master's programs. It focused on how formal debriefing can bridge the shift from traditional learning models, ensuring effective student learning and knowledge application in diverse clinical scenarios. The study specifically explored the perceptions of preceptors and students about the incorporation of debriefing in a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education accredited athletic training program.

Musical instruments have been recognized as attractive targets of volitionally developed long-term engagement. However, in music education research, the significance of autonomy in fostering learning motivation has mainly been perceived through the prism of student-teacher interaction. Addressing this gap, this study shifts the focus towards an autonomous learner perspective embracing the learner’s volitional approach and interest in engaging with musical instrument learning. Through an analysis of a survey sample (N=215) involving participants’ experiences with an online music learning platform, the study explores participants’ study motives and their association with study engagement, alongside the subsequent learning and wellbeing outcomes. Existing evidence highlights the significance of family STEM learning experiences during early childhood. However, there is a lack of research specific to early childhood family-based learning in the field of engineering, especially with preschool-age children (three to five years old). To address this gap and inform engineering education programs for young children, we conducted a design-based research study in collaboration with 15 Spanish-and English-speaking families with preschool-age children from low-income communities. The Walton Family Foundation partnered with Gallup to find out how US teachers are using AI tools in the classroom and the potential for it to save time. Over 2,200 K-12 teachers responded to a survey in April 2025. Here’s a snapshot of some of the findings on how frequently teachers use AI for 9 different tasks, and how many save time by doing so.

This reflection critically examines corporal punishment in Indian schools, highlighting how pedagogical violence perpetuates caste and socioeconomic class inequalities. Drawing from my fieldwork experiences, I explore how my insider/outsider positionality helped me to understand systemic oppression and frameworks of modernity within the neoliberal education system I was studying. Additionally, I interrogate the limitations of cultural relativity by emphasizing a need for anthropologists to confront ethical dilemmas entrenched within the power dynamics in our field sites.

The shift to remote learning has significantly influenced cognitive load among university students, impacting their ability to learn and comprehend effectively. In this study, we assessed cognitive load among students at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a cross-sectional descriptive design, we collected data from 2,085 students via self-administered questionnaires between February and May of 2021. The sample was predominantly female (78.5%) and single (91.3%). The Cognitive Load Scale (subscale range: 0-40) revealed moderate mean scores of 19.59 for intrinsic load (ICL) and 16.69 for extraneous load (ECL), with …

Competency-based education (CBE) has gained attention as a model for expanding access to postsecondary education and aligning workforce preparation with industry needs. In Illinois, state-supported initiatives have sought to integrate competency alignment into professional development and higher education programs for the early childhood workforce. This mixed-methods study examines how postsecondary ECE programs in Illinois are implementing CBE, the extent to which competency alignment influences program design, and how institutional leaders and faculty perceive CBE adoption. Findings indicate that while state-supported initiatives have increased institutional engagement with competency alignment, CBE adoption remains partial and selective rather than fully transformative. Special Education Disproportionality In Illinois: What Are We Doing?, Kaelyn Chanel Green

This mixed-methods study examined special education disproportionality in Illinois to determine current trends, root causes, and responses to significant disproportionality as reflected in Comprehensive Coordinated Early Intervening Services (CCEIS) plans. Quantitatively, repeated measures analyses of risk ratios over a five-year span revealed that although many districts had reduced overall risk ratios, racial and disability-based disparities persisted. Qualitatively, inductive content analysis of 32 CCEIS plans identified four primary root causes—deficiencies in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI), inadequate Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) supports, cultural and linguistic barriers, and vague or misaligned problem statements. The purpose of this study is to examine the practices and beliefs of school psychologists working in high-performing, high-poverty (HP/HP) schools in order to make recommendations for how their practices can be replicated in other high-poverty schools to help narrow the socioeconomic opportunity gap. Results indicate that school psychologists engage in the major professional activities of school psychology practice to a similar degree as is documented in the existing literature. Despite relatively lower levels of engagement in delivering mental and behavioral health services, school psychologists view the practice to be highly impactful on students’ academic achievement. Based on Katz’s three-skilled model, the purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore academic leaders’ perceptions of their preparation and support to carry out their leadership roles in a Jamaican university. Despite constituting the majority of mid-level academic professionals and outpacing men in educational attainment, women remain significantly underrepresented in senior leadership roles across higher education. This mixed-methods (n=20) study explores the “sacrifice gap”-the disproportionate personal, professional, and economic costs women bear to reach leadership positions-by centering the lived experiences of women leaders navigating the intersection of family expectations, institutional barriers, and identity-based discrimination.
