Required General Education Program Evaluation: Bridging The Gap Between Educators And Administrators, James Lipuma, Cristo Leon, Jeremy P. Reich

STEM for Success Resources

This paper examines how General Education Program (GEP) evaluation can move beyond accreditation-driven compliance to become a collaborative academic practice. Focusing on a public polytechnic university, the study analyzes the design and pilot implementation of an online data-gathering system developed through a collaborative co-design process with faculty. By addressing the structural disconnect between educators responsible for teaching and assessment and administrators responsible for reporting and accountability, the paper demonstrates how faculty buy-in, shared meaning, and transparent communication improve the quality and legitimacy of program evaluation. Grounded in research on assessment, faculty engagement, and educational governance, the article offers a replicable …

Improving Communication And Collaboration: How Using A Communication App Improves The Online Student Learning Experience, Gina L. Solano, Jennifer Miller

Journal of Educational Research and Practice

Due to the isolation of asynchronous learning, online university students face challenges that can impact performance, increase anxiety, and lead to dropout. This study explores the use of communication apps, such as WhatsApp, Nectir, and GroupMe, to enhance engagement, peer socialization, and learning in graduate-level online courses across New York from Spring 2022 to Spring 2023. Data from purposeful sampling reveals that these tools reduced anxiety, improved confidence in asking questions, and provided timely support for assignments. The qualitative study aimed to identify strategies to boost student success, constructive dialogue, and motivation. Results suggest that communication apps effectively mitigate isolation …

Counselors With A History Of Sexual Abuse Who Work With Sexually Violent Offenders, Chandra L. Goodwin Sep 2025

Counselors With A History Of Sexual Abuse Who Work With Sexually Violent Offenders, Chandra L. Goodwin

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Research on counselors who treat sexually violent offenders has emphasized professional challenges, ethical dilemmas, and vicarious trauma, while less attention has been given to clinicians with personal histories of sexual abuse who may face added strain yet also bring unique empathy and resilience to their work. Addressing this gap is critical for the counseling profession, as it informs how training, supervision, and wellness practices can be structured to better support clinicians with lived trauma histories. This qualitative study explored the lived experiences of counselors with personal histories of sexual abuse who work with sexually violent offenders. Grounded in interpretative phenomenological …

Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan

In the 21st‐century digital era, education faces challenges in integrating innovative technologies with relevant curricula, particularly in elementary‐level cultural diversity learning that still relies on traditional methods and lacks engaging media. This study analyzes the effectiveness of integrating Project‐Based Learning (PjBL) with TikTok videos to enhance primary students’ understanding of cultural diversity through a comprehensive systematic literature review. Keyword searches in Google Scholar, Scopus, the Indonesian Publication Index, and university journal portals yielded 48 articles, of which 25 met inclusion criteria—15 quasi‐experimental studies, 6 descriptive studies, and 4 meta‐analyses (14 national, 11 international). Findings reveal that optimal PjBL implementation increases …

Autonomous Versus Collaborative Online Professional Development: Discovering The Differences In Teacher Learning And Perceptions, Michelle Thomas, Heather Tellier, Jennifer Urbach, Corey Pierce Ph.D., Holly Baker-Hill Sep 2025

Autonomous Versus Collaborative Online Professional Development: Discovering The Differences In Teacher Learning And Perceptions, Michelle Thomas, Heather Tellier, Jennifer Urbach, Corey Pierce Ph.D., Holly Baker-Hill

Journal of Educational Research and Innovation

Online, asynchronous professional development (PD) offers flexibility for learners, yet what is the most effective way to provide online PD? While current research suggests online platforms can be effective for learning, there is a lack of studies examining differences between fully autonomous, asynchronous modules and those that are asynchronous but still collaborative. This mixed-method study examined the learning differences and perceptions between two cohorts of special education teachers as they went through an eight-unit online course on dyslexia. One cohort received an autonomous platform without interaction among the students or instructor. The other cohort received the same content, but online …

“Ni Hao” At The Southern Border: Crafting The U.S. Policy Response To The Post-Pandemic Cohort Of Chinese Migrants, Wei Luo Sep 2025

“Ni Hao” At The Southern Border: Crafting The U.S. Policy Response To The Post-Pandemic Cohort Of Chinese Migrants, Wei Luo

The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice

Undocumented migrants feature prominently in modern American politics. One group of migrants, however, has drawn relatively little attention—those from the People’s Republic of China. Leading up to the 2024 election, Chinese migrants were the fastest growing group of migrants entering from the U.S.-Mexico border. This Article proposes that U.S. policymakers take a three-prong approach to responding to Chinese migrants who have entered the country in recent years or who may enter in the future. First, use asylum law as an instrument of U.S. foreign policy and grant asylum to Chinese migrants in numbers appropriate to advance America’s national interest in …
