Based upon our research in Post-Katrina New Orleans, we define transportation resiliency as a system’s ability to function before, during and after major disruptions through reliance upon multiple mobility options. The importance of a resilient transportation system becomes more apparent during disasters where multiple options for mobility are necessary for both passenger and goods movement due to the potential loss of one or more modes.
Post-Katrina New Orleans offers a unique opportunity to investigate pre-disaster planning and post-disaster recovery activities in a major metropolitan city where all modes of transportation were either severely damaged or completely destroyed. In response to …

Taxis are the most common form of transportation found in Yaoundé, Cameroon. However, they are also a prime example of unsafe driving, causing a large number of minor accidents that often go unreported and uncorrected. Nevertheless, driving is a social responsibility, and smaller accidents have their own set of repercussions. Perhaps the strongest argument to understand and correct this problem is that it is preventing Cameroon’s capital city from becoming developed in the way of providing safe commercial transportation. Public health is an increasingly important issue addressed from both environmental and public health sectors for the future development of urban environments. From a planning perspective, one possible solution is to increase walkability throughout the cities. Many assessment methods are being developed and administered to evaluate the quality of existing urban environments to promote walkable cities/communities. The results from using these methods provide policymakers and stakeholders with valuable information regarding the existing physical conditions of the environment. Is there a theoretical basis for the view that the end of a period of over-investment necessarily leads to a period of below-normal employment as the excess capital stock is run down? We study the repercussions of a false boom in housing driven by prior expectations of future housing prices not justified by fundamentals. When these expectations are corrected, the result is a precipitous drop in housing prices and, on that account alone, some drop in employment. There is also a bulge in the housing stock. How does an undemocratic country create democratic institutions and transform its polity in such a way that democratic values and practices become integral parts of its political culture? This article uses the case of Japan to advocate for a new theoretical approach to the study of democratization. In particular, it examines how theoretical models based on the European and North American experiences have difficulty explaining the process of democratization in Japan, and argues that a state-in-society approach is better suited to explaining the democratization process diverse cultural contexts. El tema de la homosexualidad es muy poco tratado, estudiado y debatido, y mucho menos en relación a un mundo que es ampliamente conocido, visto, jugado y estructurado como es el fútbol. En ese sentido hay una gran asimetría y, obviamente, muchas preguntas por formularse para entender la disonancia. En el fútbol se discute sobre economía, cultura, política y hasta de sexo, pero de homosexualidad existe una clara hipocresía que se expresa en la evasión, que conduce a no reconocer su existencia.

本文利用 1987~ 2007年我国分地区两位数制造业数据, 通过估计 Rybczynski方程 矩阵模型, 对我国制造业空间分布与要素禀赋的关系进行了实证分析。结论显示, 要素禀赋 (包括劳动、资本和自然资源 )是影响我国制造业空间分布的重要因素, 劳动和资本的地区禀赋差异对大部分制造业空间分布有显 著影响, 而自然资源是影响资源密集型产业空间分布的重要因素。
