B2b Social Media Marketing: From Information To Decision To Retention, Roisin Vize, Monique Sherrett

Books/Book Chapters

Social networks in a business context, are referred to as two or more connected business relationships, where an ‘exchange’ exists between business partners. The concept of a ‘network’ is based on the establishment of ties between individuals, groups of people, organizational departments or corporations, that leads to the creation of social networks (Michaelidou et al., 2011:1154). Advances in web-based technology and innovation have changed the nature of social networks. Where traditional social networks involve personal and social interaction of people these interactions are now mediated by computers and web connected devices such as mobile phones, laptops, and e-notebooks. All traditional brick-and-mortar retailers are struggling with how best to deal with threats from online retailers. However, the supermarket industry is also dealing with pressure from new foreign entrants like Aldi and Lidl. Perhaps nowhere is this more evident than in the southeastern United States, where Publix operates. Publix is an employee-owned supermarket chain with excellent service, high margins and strong growth in sales and profits. The company has also had some success with Internet offerings. However, is the company’s business model going to sustain it in this increasingly competitive industry, or are changes needed? This case focuses on the …

Strategies To Influence A Quality And Compliance Culture, Betsy Macht, Anne Davis

International Journal of Applied Management and Technology

Sales of defective or substandard products carry a potential risk of unintended effects on the consumer. The purpose of this single-case study was to explore the strategies to influence a culture of quality and compliance. Findings identified the value of weaving quality and compliance into a unified matrix to establish a holistic approach to endowing the organizational culture with the behaviors and habits that drive quality and compliance across business unit boundaries. To treat any aspect of quality and compliance as a separate element of the culture may undermine the overall effectiveness of quality and compliance programs, leaving room for …

Relating Group Size And Posting Activity Of An Online Community Of Financial Investors: Regularities And Seasonal Patterns, P. Racca, R. Casarin, Pierpaolo Dondio, F. Squazzoni

Articles

Group size can potentially affect collective activity and individual propensity to contribute to collective goods. Mancur Olson, in his Logic of Collective Action, argued that individual contribution to a collective good tends to be lower in groups of large size. Today, online communication platforms represent an interesting ground to study such collaborative dynamics under possibly different conditions (e.g., lower costs related to gather and share information). This paper examines the relationship between group size and activity in an online financial forum, where users invest time in sharing news, analysis and comments with other investors. We looked at about 24 million …

Consuming Digital Debris In The Plasticene, Stephen R. Parks 2018 Virginia Commonwealth University

Consuming Digital Debris In The Plasticene, Stephen R. Parks

Theses and Dissertations

Claims of customization and control by socio-technical industries are altering the role of consumer and producer. These narratives are often misleading attempts to engage consumers with new forms of technology. By addressing capitalist intent, material, and the reproduction limits of 3-D printed objects’, I observe the aspirational promise of becoming a producer of my own belongings through new networks of production. I am interested in gaining a better understanding of the data consumed that perpetuates hyper-consumptive tendencies for new technological apparatuses. My role as a designer focuses on the resolution of not only the surface of the object through 3-D …

Three Essays On The Application Of Machine Learning Methods In Economics, Abdelaziz Lawani 2018 University of Kentucky

Three Essays On The Application Of Machine Learning Methods In Economics, Abdelaziz Lawani

Theses and Dissertations--Agricultural Economics

Over the last decades, economics as a field has experienced a profound transformation from theoretical work toward an emphasis on empirical research (Hamermesh, 2013). One common constraint of empirical studies is the access to data, the quality of the data and the time span it covers. In general, applied studies rely on surveys, administrative or private sector data. These data are limited and rarely have universal or near universal population coverage. The growth of the internet has made available a vast amount of digital information. These big digital data are generated through social networks, sensors, and online platforms. These data …

Not All Consumers Follow Suit: Information Choices And Effect Of Reviews, Seung Lee 2018 University of Minnesota, Duluth

Not All Consumers Follow Suit: Information Choices And Effect Of Reviews, Seung Lee

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Understanding the process of consumers' buying decisions is not intuitively obvious from the way it appears. Before we come up with any acceptable account of the process, we should learn more about consumers' traits as well as the characteristics of the goods or services they intend to purchase. The goal of this study is to establish the alignment of consumers' buying decisions with information choice and determine why consumers may or may not make buying decisions compatible with reviewer comments. To explain the reality of multiple consumer equilibria, the paper draws on the four information choice theories: inattentiveness, rational inattention, …

Articles by Maurer Faculty

Our past surveys have observed that frequent changes in the rules surrounding electronic payments-spurred by both regulation and enforcement actions create uncertainty and make forward progress difficult for many providers. This survey year is no exception: regulators have taken "two steps forward, one step back" on a number of fronts. This survey reports on (1) the proposal by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency ("OCC") regarding "fintech" charters, which states have challenged in actions still pending- (2) changes to Regulation CC regarding remote check deposit and disputes over altered or forged checks-(3) the Supreme Court's decision in Expression …

Buyer-Seller Communications: Trusted Advisor Constructs And Measurement, Stephen C. Carlson 6425540

Atlantic Marketing Journal

Attainment of the “trusted advisor” role for sales representatives in a complex sales environment is considered the pinnacle of buyer-seller relationships. This study also examines whether pervasive smartphone use particularly among the millennial generation has substantially altered behaviors in the form of communications in the buyer-seller relationship. Does replacement of face-to-face and direct verbal communications by impersonal technology based communications that removes verbal and non-verbal or behavioral forms of communications have an impact on perceptions of communication quality and trust building among the parties. As use of smartphones for text based communications is more prevalent among younger generations, can generational …
