The construction of bridge is important due to its ability to link communities through land-road connection, thereby saving time and increasing productivity of those living in these areas. Therefore, this research evaluated the Temadore bridge, built to link Ternate City, Maitara land and Tidore City by road to enhance movement and reduce disparities in assessing both areas. Data were collected using the Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) which searched for and identified several variables according to the dependence power and driving power. The result showed that construction of bridge increased the movement of community activities and productivity, thereby leading to growth.

Mixed-dimensional nanomaterials composed of one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials, such as graphene-silver nanowire (AgNW) composite sandwiched structures, are promising candidates as building blocks for multifunctional structures and materials. However, their mechanical behavior and failure mechanism have not yet been fully understood. In this work, we have performed integrated experimental, theoretical, and numerical studies to explore the performance and failure modes of graphene-AgNW composite under tensile and impact loading conditions. The validity of non-destructive methods for evaluating transportation infrastructure conditions was explored in this study. The overarching objective is to assist in developing ideal protocols for bridge inspectors to determine the condition of reinforced concrete infrastructures and the remaining service life. A meticulous evaluation of a prestressed concrete beam decommissioned from a bridge listed in the West Virginia Division of Highways inventory was completed. The evaluation included determining the sizes, spacings, and location of reinforcement steel bars and prestressing tendons. The aging underground pipelines in the United States, which include sewer and water supply systems, have exceeded their design lifespan and will have to be renewed or replaced to continue providing these vital services to communities. Two methods can be used to replace the pipes: open-cut and trenchless technologies. Trenchless methods offer several advantages in urban areas: a small work area, lower operational and maintenance costs, and fewer negative impacts on the surrounding communities. This dissertation investigates the use of wastewater from various treatment stages in concrete production to promote sustainable construction practices. Concrete prepared with potable water (PW) served as a control, while wastewater from plant final effluent (FE), chlorine contact basin (CL), secondary clarifier effluent (SC), primary clarifier effluent (PC), and bar screen effluent (BSE) was evaluated.
A comprehensive testing program was implemented to assess performance, including compressive strength tests, water absorption measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Combining experimental and analytical methods, the research focuses on the targeted failure regions of prestressed and non-prestressed continuous beams to gain deeper insights into their shear behavior. Benefit-cost Analysis (BCA) is conducted prior to federal grant allocation for bridge replacement and enhancement projects to prioritize decision-making. Benefits are measured based on total bridge closures, requiring vehicles to take alternate detour paths. Primary benefits are the direct user costs such as travel time saving or emission costs. However, there are more secondary benefits that are intangible and hard to monetize, but United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) guidelines suggest considering them wherever possible. The development of predictive models for bridge deterioration is crucial for ensuring the longevity and safety of transportation infrastructure. Bridge condition degradation is heavily influenced by environmental conditions. This research integrates various environmental variables such as rainfall, humidity, air temperature, coastal influence, and freezing effects to generate environmental risk scores. These scores help in developing environmental risk zones within the Texas region. การออกแบบและก่อสร้างสะพานเหล็กในอดีตมักใช้รอยต่อขยายตัว (Expansion Joint) เพื่อรองรับการเคลื่อนที่จากอุณหภูมิ แต่เมื่อใช้งานไประยะเวลาหนึ่งจะเกิดการเสื่อมสภาพ ทำให้เกิดการกัดกร่อนและความเสียหายสะสม เนื่องจากน้ำและสิ่งสกปรกซึมผ่านลงสู่โครงสร้างส่วนล่างได้ง่าย ส่งผลให้เกิดการเสื่อมสภาพของโครงสร้างบริเวณรอยต่อ เป็นภาระในการบำรุงรักษาและกระทบต่ออายุการใช้งานสะพาน การใช้แผ่นพื้นเชื่อมต่อ (Link Slab) จึงเป็นทางเลือกในการเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพสะพานเหล็กเดิม โดยมีบริเวณไม่ยึดติด (Debonded Zone) เพื่อลดความเค้นภายใน ร่วมกับการใช้คอนกรีตสมรรถนะสูงพิเศษ (UHPC) ที่มีความแข็งแรงทั้งด้านแรงอัดและแรงดึง และทนต่อการยืดตัวหลังแตกร้าว ช่วยเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพให้แผ่นพื้นเชื่อมต่อยิ่งขึ้น การศึกษานี้พิจารณากรณีสะพานเหล็กช่วงพาดเดี่ยวปกติ 25 เมตร พบว่าเมื่อใช้ UHPC กำลังอัด 110 MPa สามารถเปลี่ยนรอยต่อสะพานเป็นแผ่นพื้นเชื่อมต่อได้ต่อเนื่อง 4 ช่วงพาด เพิ่มระยะห่างรอยต่อขยายตัวจาก 25 เมตรเป็น 100 เมตร ผลการวิเคราะห์โครงสร้างพบว่าแผ่นพื้นเชื่อมต่อที่ใช้วัสดุ UHPC ช่วยลดการเสียรูปโดยภาพรวมของสะพานจากน้ำหนักบรรทุกและการเปลี่ยนแปลงอุณหภูมิ อีกทั้งยังสามารถออกแบบเพื่อลดขนาดและปริมาณเหล็กเสริมลงได้ ดังนั้น การเปลี่ยนรอยต่อสะพานเป็นแผ่นพื้นเชื่อมต่อจึงช่วยเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพในการรับแรง ลดต้นทุนบำรุงรักษาในระยะยาว อย่างไรก็ตามพบว่าอาจทำให้ฐานรองรับสะพานบางตำแหน่งต้องรับแรงเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ ผู้ออกแบบจึงควรพิจารณาปรับเปลี่ยนฐานรองรับให้เหมาะสมกับภาระที่เพิ่มขึ้นด้วย

Researchers and practitioners studied the effects ride-hailing had in cities before the covid-19 pandemic. Previous research found ride-hailing to produce negative externalities, such as reducing transit ridership and increasing congestion in various cities. Since the pandemic, ride-hailing ridership has nearly recovered to pre-pandemic levels in Chicago. Ride-hailing ridership has grown steadily since the pandemic while a rider’s willingness to share their trip stagnated. Ride-hailing ridership nearly recovering to pre-covid levels in Chicago suggests that transportation planners, and policy makers, will need to continue assessing the impacts ride-hailing trips have in their cities.

Self-consolidating, rapid-hardening concrete is a sought-after product in the market now, however the effects of admixtures on fresh and hardened concrete rheology are still uncertain. This study aims to create a self-consolidating concrete (SCC) using calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) cement for its rapid-hardening properties, and tests two set time retarders and two viscosity-modifying admixtures (VMAs) to determine how they affect the properties of concrete. The properties studied in this thesis are workability, viscosity, set times, air content, compressive strength, and freeze-thaw resistance of self-consolidating concrete. Contractors weigh various factors to determine the expected benefits of a construction project and decide their bid value. The frictional attributes of high friction surface treatment (HFST) play a crucial role in ensuring optimal traffic safety, particularly in wet weather conditions. Friction consists of two important components: adhesion and hysteresis. Addressing post-fire impacts largely depends on burn “severity.” A singular severity classification that encompasses the holistic effects of fire on all ecosystem processes does not currently exist. TAV5 is a bacterium strain of the family Opitutaceae from Termite-Associated Verrucomicrobium isolated from the hindgut of Reticulitermes Flavipes, the most common subterranean termite in North America. The genome of TAV5 contains genes coding for enzymes that could structurally modify lignin.
Pulp & paper wastewater and Sugarcane bagasse contain high levels of cellulose (44-46%) and hemicellulose (27-32% ), as well as lignin (17-23%) which is recalcitrant to biodegradation. The lignin tend to shield the cellulose and hemicellulose making them inaccessible for biodegradation.

Manuscript One addresses the integration of Connected Automated Vehicles (CAVs) and human-driven vehicles in heterogeneous traffic networks. Traditional models assume uniform driving behaviors, which are now inadequate. To address this, an integer programming formulation for a vehicle-oriented traffic dynamics model in space-time networks is introduced.
