Accurately determining short-circuit fault contribution from utilities is a major challenge in arc flash incident energy analysis. Utilities may withhold or frequently alter data, and the presence of distributed generation complicates worst-case scenario identification. Additionally, commercially available software imposes limitations on scenario modeling and calculations, restricting engineers' ability to refine results. This research introduces an iterative approach that enhances worst-case arc flash identification while addressing software constraints. Initially, the study applied this approach to various facility models using commercial tools, comparing different methodologies. A team of five engineers took on the challenge of designing, building, and testing a single-person electric boat for the Promoting Electric Propulsion (PEP) competition. From the start, our team focused on maximizing efficiency and performance by carefully selecting and refining each part of the system—everything from the hull and shaft to the propeller, motor, and battery setup. We repurposed an old hull, repaired it, and outfitted it with a new custom-designed shaft and a well-matched propeller to improve handling and propulsion. Power came from a custom-built LiFePO₄ battery pack, paired with a reliable battery management system to keep everything …

The National Cancer Institute forecasts 2,001,140 cancer diagnoses in 2024, with approximately 600,000 expected deaths. Breast cancer is projected to be the most prevalent, with about 310,000 cases. Early diagnosis is critical to improving outcomes, and various diagnostic technologies, including imaging, biopsies, and blood tests, play a vital role. Image testing methods include X-rays, ultrasounds, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and PET scans. Artificial intelligence (AI) has recently significantly improved cancer detection, improving speed, accuracy, and effectiveness. HydroTurf® is an advanced revetment solution engineered to protect embankment dams and riverine levees from erosion caused by overtopping events. Its design provides an impermeable geomembrane protected by engineered turf with a high strength cementitious infill, resulting in a fiber reinforced high-strength concrete matrix. The system provides a durable and impermeable barrier against erosive forces.

The OVERCOME project is an applied research project that aims to provide the dam and dike engineering profession with an easy-to-use, physically based numerical tool that represents overtopping erosion and failure of homogeneous embankments made up of coarse-grained, gap-graded soils. This project began in 2018 and is scheduled for completion in 2028, and was initiated by EDF and CNR, who are the two main owners of embankment dams in France. Their goal was to combine the two existing systems of the Georgia Tech Robotarium and the Micromouse maze solving competition. This was done to bring new challenges and excitement to maze-solving robotics while incorporating the cloud-based learning system of the Georgia Tech Robotarium. Additive manufacturing, commonly known as 3D printing, has revolutionized the production of lightweight, customized, and cost-effective components across various industries. This study specifically investigates the fatigue behavior of two thermoplastics—Nylon and ASA—fabricated using the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technique. These materials have demonstrated significant potential in aerospace applications, particularly for lightweight structural components in mini drones and satellites, where corrosion resistance and high performance are critical requirements. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly transformed industries and daily life, but beneath its advancements lies a growing environmental concern. This paper explores the often-overlooked ecological footprint of AI technologies, focusing on real-world data and tangible impacts. Notably, training OpenAI’s GPT-3 model alone consumed approximately 1,287 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity—equivalent to the annual consumption of over 120 U.S. homes—and emitted 500 metric tons of CO₂, comparable to driving 112 gasoline-powered cars for a year.

The purpose of this thesis is to further explore the capabilities of magnesium metal to serve in biodegradable orthopedic implant applications. Current standards for orthopedic implants involve metals that cause many issues such as high risk of infection due to the need for secondary surgery. Despite magnesium’s biocompatibility, it presents a challenge that will be addressed in this thesis: a fast degradation rate. Networked microgrids (NMG) are gaining popularity as an example of smartgrids (SG), where power networks are integrated with communication technologies. Communication technologies enable NMGs to be monitored and controlled via communication networks. However, ensuring that communication networks in NMGs satisfy quality of delivery (QoD) metrics such as the round trip time (RTT) of NMG control data is necessary. This study examined whether Part 121 flight disruptions (delays, cancellations, diversions) differed between drought and non-drought periods at the five busiest airports in California from 2004 to 2024. There were no significant differences in disruptions between drought seasons for any of the variables.

This study examined differences in annual bird strike reports per operation by runway configuration: parallel runway and intersecting runway. Results supported that parallel runways experience higher annual bird strike reports per operation compared to intersecting runways, indicating a configuration-based risk pattern.

A weak, decreasing trend was found in monthly UAS (also
known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle or Drone) sightings near
airports (FAA, 2025), but it was not statistically significant.
There was a significant difference in UAS sightings by month of
the year between November 2019 and December 2024, with a

There was no significant effect of aviation environmental knowledge on willingness to pay (WTP; p = .20); however, there was a significant effect on WTP by ticket price increases (p = .02) between 0 and 15%. This suggests that price is a stronger driver than awareness of environmental impact when paying for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) airplanes provide a great degree of flexibility in mission type, as they combine the landing ability of a helicopter with the range of an airplane. This paper describes the design, implementation, and testing of the control system for just such a vehicle. Due to its non-typical motor configuration, there is an unbalanced torque on the frame. Two control methods are suggested and tested to balance this torque, and a PID controller with a high I gain is selected. Background: Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, and its early detection is crucial for improving patient outcomes. This study aimed to develop and evaluate ensemble learning models, specifically stacking, for the accurate prediction of lung, breast, and cervical cancers using lifestyle and clinical data.
Methods: 12 base learners were trained on datasets for lung, breast, and cervical cancer. Stacking ensemble models were then developed using these base learners. The models were evaluated for accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, AUC-ROC, MCC, and kappa. An explainable AI technique, SHAP, was used to interpret model predictions.

This study explores the multidimensional impact of digitalization on social, cultural, and economic interactions in Morocco. By leveraging modernization and social network theories, the analysis reveals how digital technologies transform social dynamics, facilitate innovation, and pose challenges in terms of access inequalities and privacy protection. Using a mixed- method approach combining quantitative surveys and qualitative analyses, the results show a growing adoption of digital technologies and their varied effects on Moroccan society. The proposed recommendations aim to maximize the benefits of digitalization while minimizing its risks, contributing to sustainable and inclusive development.
