Biometric Encryption System For Increased Security, Ranjith Jayapal Jan 2017

Biometric Encryption System For Increased Security, Ranjith Jayapal

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Security is very important in present day life. In this highly-interconnected world, most of our daily activities are computer based, and the data transactions are protected by passwords. These passwords identify various entities such as bank accounts, mobile phones, etc. People might reuse the same password, or passwords related to an individual that can lead to attacks. Indeed, remembering several passwords can become a tedious task. Biometrics is a science that measures an individual’s physical characteristics in a unique way. Thus, biometrics serves as a method to replace the cumbersome use of complex passwords. Our research uses the features of …

Enhancing The Existing Microscopic Simulation Modeling Practice For Express Lane Facilities, Kelvin S. Machumu Jan 2017

Enhancing The Existing Microscopic Simulation Modeling Practice For Express Lane Facilities, Kelvin S. Machumu

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The implementation of managed lanes (MLs), also known as dynamically priced express lanes, to improve freeway traffic flow and personal throughput is on the rise. Congestion pricing is increasingly becoming a common strategy for congestion management, often requiring microscopic simulation during both planning and operational stages. VISSIM is a recognized microscopic simulation software used for analyzing the performance of managed lanes (MLs). This thesis addressed two important microscopic simulation issues that affect the evaluation results of MLs.

One of the microscopic simulation issues that has not yet been addressed by previous studies is the required minimum managed lane routing decision …

Pore Formation In Aluminum Castings: Theoretical Calculations And The Extrinsic Effect Of Entrained Surface Oxide Films, Pedram Yousefian Jan 2017

Pore Formation In Aluminum Castings: Theoretical Calculations And The Extrinsic Effect Of Entrained Surface Oxide Films, Pedram Yousefian

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Aluminum alloy castings are being integrated increasingly into automotive and aerospace assemblies due to their extraordinary properties, especially high strength-to-density ratio. To produce high quality castings, it is necessary to understand the mechanisms of the formation of defects, specifically pores and inclusion, in aluminum. There have been numerous studies on pore formation during solidification which lead to hot tearing and/or reduction in mechanical properties. However, a comprehensive study that correlates pore formation theory with in situ observations and modeling assumptions from the literature as well as experimental observations in not available. The present study is motivated to fill this gap. …

The Effect Of Corrosion Defects On The Failure Of Oil And Gas Transmission Pipelines: A Finite Element Modeling Study, Jennet Orasheva Jan 2017

The Effect Of Corrosion Defects On The Failure Of Oil And Gas Transmission Pipelines: A Finite Element Modeling Study, Jennet Orasheva

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The transportation of oil and gas and their products through the pipelines is a safe and economically efficient way, when compared with other methods of transportation, such as tankers, railroad, trucks, etc. Although pipelines are usually well-designed, during construction and later in service, pipelines are subjected to a variety of risks. Eventually, some sections may experience corrosion which can affect the integrity of pipeline, which poses a risk in high-pressure operations. Specifically, in pipelines with long history of operation, the size and location of the corrosion defects need to be determined so that pressure levels can be kept at safe …

Robust Airfoil Design Optimization Using Stochastic Expansions And Utility Theory, Xiaosong Du, Leifur Leifsson, Slawomir Koziel Jan 2017

Robust Airfoil Design Optimization Using Stochastic Expansions And Utility Theory, Xiaosong Du, Leifur Leifsson, Slawomir Koziel

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Efficient and effective robust airfoil design optimization is proposed by integrating stochastic expansions and utility theory. In this work, the stochastic expansions are generated efficiently using non-intrusive polynomial chaos (NIPC) expansions. The robust design problem is formulated using utility functions which transfer a targeted response using a prescribed mathematical function to represent the designers' risk preferences. The proposed approach is demonstrated using examples of lift-constrained airfoil drag minimization in transonic viscous flow using the Mach number as an uncertain variable in the range of 0.70 to 0.75. The results are compared with the common problem formulation for robust design of …

Empirical Evaluation Of Cloud Iaas Platforms Using System-Level Benchmarks, Niharika Deval Jan 2017

Empirical Evaluation Of Cloud Iaas Platforms Using System-Level Benchmarks, Niharika Deval

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Cloud Computing is an emerging paradigm in the field of computing where scalable IT enabled capabilities are delivered ‘as-a-service’ using Internet technology. The Cloud industry adopted three basic types of computing service models based on software level abstraction: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Infrastructure-as-a-Service allows customers to outsource fundamental computing resources such as servers, networking, storage, as well as services where the provider owns and manages the entire infrastructure. This allows customers to only pay for the resources they consume. In a fast-growing IaaS market with multiple cloud platforms offering IaaS services, the user's decision on the selection …

Anomaly Detection In Rfid Networks, Alaa Alkadi Jan 2017

Anomaly Detection In Rfid Networks, Alaa Alkadi

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Available security standards for RFID networks (e.g. ISO/IEC 29167) are designed to secure individual tag-reader sessions and do not protect against active attacks that could also compromise the system as a whole (e.g. tag cloning or replay attacks). Proper traffic characterization models of the communication within an RFID network can lead to better understanding of operation under “normal” system state conditions and can consequently help identify security breaches not addressed by current standards. This study of RFID traffic characterization considers two piecewise-constant data smoothing techniques, namely Bayesian blocks and Knuth’s algorithms, over time-tagged events and compares them in the context …

Resilience In Ecotoxicology: Toward A Multiple Equilibrium Concept, Mirco Bundschuh, Ralf Schulz, Ralf B. Schäfer, Craig R. Allen, David G. Angeler Jan 2017

Resilience In Ecotoxicology: Toward A Multiple Equilibrium Concept, Mirco Bundschuh, Ralf Schulz, Ralf B. Schäfer, Craig R. Allen, David G. Angeler

School of Natural Resources: Faculty Publications

The term resilience describes stress-response patterns across scientific disciplines. In ecology, advances have been made to clearly define resilience based on underlying mechanistic assumptions. Engineering resilience (rebound) is used to describe the ability of organisms to recover from adverse conditions (disturbances), which is termed the rate of recovery. By contrast, the ecological resilience definition considers a systemic change, that is, when ecosystems reorganize into a new regime following disturbance. Under this new regime, structural and functional aspects change considerably relative to the previous regime, without recovery. In this context, resilience is an emergent property of complex systems. In the present …

Substrate Integrated E-Plane Horn Antenna And Antenna Array, Zhewei Gu Jan 2017

Substrate Integrated E-Plane Horn Antenna And Antenna Array, Zhewei Gu

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

In this paper, a novel SMA fed substrate integrated E-plane horn antenna and antenna array are proposed. The substrate integrated E-plane waveguide (SIEW) is not only able to integrate conventional waveguide circuits on printed circuit boards (PCB), but also especially falls into all E-plane circuits which substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technique fails to. Essential copper strips are sandwiched in the middle by two PCBs to support longitudinal current in the E-plane fed through an SIEW-to-SMA transition. Copper plated holes aligned along the wave propagation direction are drilled through the substrate and copper strips, so that vertical current in the H-plane …

A Method For Reflectance Index Wavelength Selection From Moisture-Controlled Soil And Crop Residue Samples, Ali Hamidisepehr, Michael P. Sama, Aaron P. Turner, Ole O. Wendroth

Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Faculty Publications

Reflectance indices are a method for reducing the dimensionality of spectral measurements used to quantify material properties. Choosing the optimal wavelengths for developing an index based on a given material and property of interest is made difficult by the large number of wavelengths typically available to choose from and the lack of homogeneity when remotely sensing agricultural materials. This study aimed to determine the feasibility of using a low-cost method for sensing the moisture content of background materials in traditional crop remote sensing. Moisture-controlled soil and wheat stalk residue samples were measured at varying heights using a reflectance probe connected …
