Optimizing Aluminium 6061 Turning Using Kesambi Oil-Based Cutting Fluid And Response Surface Methodology To Reduce Surface Roughness, Ari Wahjudi, Raihan Baihaki, Khairul Anam

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)

This study investigates the viability of Kesambi oil (Schleichera oleosa) as an environmentally sustainable, bio-based cutting fluid to reduce surface roughness during the turning of Aluminium 6061. The study employs Response Surface Methodology in conjunction with a Central Composite Design to identify the optimal parameter combination. These methods were used to optimize two primary variables, including the composition of Kesambi oil and the depth of cut during machining. Surface roughness was measured using a surface roughness tester, and a comprehensive quadratic regression equation was analyzed to elucidate its characteristics. The best configuration, comprising 19.57% Kesambi oil and a cutting depth …

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)

The aim of this study is to analyze the implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) in coal-fired power plants (CFPP) in Indonesia by determining the reboiler energy demand through steam source analysis. The study uses a representative 3×330 MW subcritical coal-fired power plant (CFPP), with an emission intensity of 1.02 tCO₂/MWh and flue gas CO₂ concentration of 13.8%. CCS modeling shows the reboiler requires about 2.9×10⁹ kJ/h energy, supplied by steam extracted from the plant’s steam cycle. A steam cycle model was developed to evaluate the impact of steam extraction. Potential tapping points analyzed include main steam, cold reheat, …

The performance of activated carbon (AC)-based supercapacitor electrodes is often limited by poor electrical conductivity, prompting interest in conductive additives such as carbon black (CB). This study explores the transformative potential of CB as a conductive additive in AC-based supercapacitor electrodes and systematically investigates CB mass loadings of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%, using styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) as the binder. The findings in this study demonstrate that 10% CB is the optimal loading, offering a balanced performance in terms of structure, morphology, and capacitance. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis reveals a distinct structural evolution at 10% CB, characterized by the …

Currently generated color corneal elevation surface maps from topographic imaging devices are essential for detecting ocular diseases, while accurately classifying these maps to differentiate between different shapes remains an issue. This study aims to assess and compare parameters of the front and back corneal surface elevation map patterns of normal/abnormal corneas. Two hundred cases were randomly taken (100 normal and 100 abnormal) with a single normal reference image, and then an additional 25 cases were added later for the optimization process. The preprocessing of all …

Hysterical conversion has similar cognition and behaviours to those in the case of ASD; it is, therefore, complex when diagnosing and classifying the condition. The majority of employed diagnostic tests are cross-sectional and fail to describe the developmental and clinical features of ASD; for this reason, they are pretty inaccurate in the diagnosis of ASD and thus cause disparities in the efficiency of the therapeutic interventions used. The present study's research contribution is a new application of deep learning that aims to analyse the spectrum of ASD with gradient-based classifications. In this case, we use a DL model trained on …

Optimization And Acceleration Of Puf Design Through Reduced Order Standard Cell Modeling, Ian Z. Wilcox

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) designs continue to scale with ever increasing complexity and device counts in the billions. Demand for scalable high-fidelity simulations of these systems drives the need for the development of novel modeling capabilities. This research formulates a non-intrusive model order reduc-tion (MOR) framework, called PUF-ROMS, to accelerate and optimize the design and analysis of physical unclonable functions (PUFs) on ASICs. The primary goals of PUF-ROMS are to estimate entropy and temperature-voltage noise (TV-noise) of circuit structures used in the design in an accelerated evaluation environment to enable designers to explore architecture options with the goal of …

Improving Infiltration Model Performance In Arid And Urban Regions, Samuel Stephen Coulter

Civil Engineering ETDs

Flooding in arid regions is infrequent but damaging and limited historical data makes flood modeling an important tool for flood infrastructure design. This study improves flood modeling guidance by using plot-scale tests to determine the impact of slope, compaction, gravel mulch and landscape fabric on infiltration and runoff rates in sandy soil types. This data will be used as guidance for the linear and constant model. The performance of this model was compared with the curve number model for a hypothetical 100-year design storm. Results showed that gravel mulch increased infiltration rates by 66% and reduced erosion on steep and …

Finite Element Investigation Of Blast Load Responses In Nuclear Power Plant Containment Structures, Janak Raj Awasthi Jul 2025

Finite Element Investigation Of Blast Load Responses In Nuclear Power Plant Containment Structures, Janak Raj Awasthi

Civil Engineering ETDs

Some significant incidents like the Chernobyl disaster (1986), the Fukushima Daiichi hydrogen explosion (2011), and some frequent military and terror threats to the nuclear Power plant structures have led to studying the capacity of power plant structures to withstand blast loadings. From this research, even one-third of the loss of the coolant is enough to damage the power plant structure. Crack starts from the wall and propagates toward the top of the dome and the foundation. The external blast shows high damage symptoms near the foundation area. Most of the steel members, including the rebars, Liner, and Tendons, showed high …

Understanding The Metallic And Oxide Phases In Platinum-Based Bimetallic Heterogeneous Catalysts After High-Temperature Oxidation, Stephen John Porter Jr Jul 2025

Understanding The Metallic And Oxide Phases In Platinum-Based Bimetallic Heterogeneous Catalysts After High-Temperature Oxidation, Stephen John Porter Jr

Nanoscience and Microsystems ETDs

Platinum (Pt) and palladium (Pd) are critical components in diesel emission control systems, enabling the conversion of harmful pollutants under demanding conditions. However, Pt’s effectiveness is hindered by sintering under high-temperature oxidizing environments. This dissertation investigates how Pt and Pd evolve under oxidizing conditions at 800°C, highlighting their distinct thermodynamic behaviors and interactions. Using TEM, EDS, EELS, XRF, XRD, and EXAFS, we show that Pd suppresses Pt sintering by reducing the volatility of PtO₂, leading to the formation of stable particles. Both Pt and Pd are present in metallic and oxide states, forming biphasic 'Janus' particles with conjoined metal and …
