In recent years, people have paid more and more attention to traditional manufacturing’s environmental impact, especially in terms of energy consumption and related emissions of carbon dioxide. Except for adopting new equipment, production scheduling could play an important role in reducing the total energy consumption of a manufacturing plant. Machine tools waste a considerable amount of energy because of their underutilization. Consequently, energy saving can be achieved by switching machines to standby or off when they lay idle for a comparatively long period. Herein, we first introduce the objectives of minimizing non-processing energy consumption, total weighted tardiness and earliness, and …
High Temperature Polymer Electrolytes For Hydrogen Fuel Cells And Electrochemical Pumps, Gokul Venugopalan
High Temperature Polymer Electrolytes For Hydrogen Fuel Cells And Electrochemical Pumps, Gokul Venugopalan
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Hydrogen fuel cell and separation technologies such as proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) and electrochemical hydrogen pump (ECHP) offer a profound advantage in the transition to a low-carbon economy. An imperative hitch in hydrogen fuel cells and ECHP technology has been the electrocatalyst poisoning by carbon monoxide (CO) and other contaminants in the reactant mixture. By operating, hydrogen fuel cells and ECHPs at high temperatures (>200 °C), the effect of CO adsorption on the electrocatalyst surface could be curtailed. The high-temperature operation of devices necessitates a proton exchange membrane (PEM) to operate under anhydrous conditions.

Small Fault Detection Based On Cumulative Sum Of Neighbor Statistic, Xiaoping Guo, Jiajun Gao, Jianbin Guo, Li Yuan
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Aiming at the small faults and the common data non-linear problems of industrial process, a fault detection method based oncumulative sum of neighbor statistic (CUSUM-NS) is proposed. Mutual information principal component analysis (MIPCA) is used to reduce the dimension of training data, and the principal components based on mutual information are extracted to construct a new sample space. For the new sample space after dimensionality reduction, the nonlinear features of the process data can be fully extracted through the distance square sum statistics of k nearest neighbors. Cumulative summation(CUSUM) method is used to accumulate the sum of squares of …

Feasibility Study Of A Structural Electrolyte Containment Ring For Use In Thermal Batteries, Teal Harbour
Mechanical Engineering ETDs
The feasibility of a new thermal battery separator design utilizing a structural machined MACOR® ceramic is explored. The cylindrical ceramic “separator ring” maintains separation of cell electrodes while containing a LiCl-KCl molten salt electrolyte. Finite element analysis (FEA) results show the separator ring can withstand mechanical and thermal loading conditions representative of a thermal battery environment. Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) was used to characterize impedance mechanisms. EIS data was also used to calculate and show conductivities of the experimental separators are comparable to a traditional pellet. Although discharge testing resulted in high current-pulse resistivities and low delivered capacity, the work …

Longer throughput measurements such as porosity, coefficient of thermal expansion, and grain structure studies have been established for future delivery to the research team. Yet another delivery from this thesis research is a …

Monte Carlo Perturbation Analysis Of Fuel Temperature Variations In The Mcnp Model Of The Annular Core Research Reactor, Melissa Andrea Moreno
Nuclear Engineering ETDs
The Annular Core Research Reactor (ACRR) Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) model is used for a variety of computational calculations ranging from reactor kinetics metrics to safety analyses. To understand the dominant source of uncertainty within the model, perturbations in temperature were applied to individual ACRR MCNP fuel rods. Assigning random temperatures, selected uniformly, from the operational temperature ranges of the fuel enables a study of uncertainty effects based on temperature variations. Stochastic mixing was used to blend the cross-sections of the desired temperatures using the MCNP continuous and Thermal Neutron Scattering Treatment (S(α,β)) libraries in ENDF/B-VII.1. The uncertainty quantification process …

Neural Networks have been widely used in the problem of Medical Image Analysis. However, when dealing with large images, deep networks easily exhaust computer resources, which in turn hinders training. This paper shows the efficacy of using Auto-Encoders as a dimensionality reduction tool to increase the efficiency of a Malaria Infected Blood Cell Image classifier. We show that using an autoencoder, we can reduce the dimensionality of large blood cell images effectively such that the features in the new space retain all the essential information from the original input.
