Application Research On Dynamic Calibration And Prediction Technology Of Coal Seam In Coalmine Working Face, Liu Wenming, Gao Yaoquan, Jiang Bici, Li Peng, Xue Wuqiang
Coal Geology & Exploration
One of the prominent problems of intelligent mining is its inadaptability to geological conditions, especially for the absolute accuracy of coal seam floor and thickness. 3D seismic has a high horizontal resolution and it can control the ups and downs of the coal seam. However, due to the time domain data, the calculation of the coal seam floor elevation is negatively affected by the time-depth conversion point. On the basis of the 3D seismic data of the working face and the coal thickness data during the mining process, the absolute accuracy of the time-depth conversion of the coal seam floor …

Optimization Of Surface Directional Wells For Water Control Based On Three-Dimensional Seismic Dynamic Geological Modeling, Lu Ziqing, Gao Yaoquan, Guo Yuan
Coal Geology & Exploration
In the treatment of high-pressure Ordovician limestone water in the coal seam floor, the design and construction optimization of surface directional wells mainly relies on two-dimensional AutoCAD geological drawings. For the avoidance of such problems as low drilling rate and off-target in the target area under complex geological conditions, and to improve the effect of precise targeted water hazard control, a technology for optimizing directional wells for water hazard prevention and control based on seismic dynamic modeling is proposed. By comparing and analyzing the current situation and problems of drilling trajectory design and optimization technology, it is pointed out that …

Biopolymers and alkali-activated materials have attracted a great deal of attention as adsorbents for the removal of heavy metal contaminants from aqueous solutions. Both materials are sustainable and feature unique properties, but biopolymers are relatively more expensive or difficult to prepare and exhibit low mechanical and surface properties, a narrow pH range, and thermal stability. In this study, hybrid adsorbents were prepared from both types of material, by alkali activation of low-cost fly ash precursors accompanied by incorporation of 0-2%mass chitosan biopolymer. Two types of alkaline activating solutions, NaOH and Na2SiO3, were employed to generate two sets of hybrid adsorbents …

A chiral dimer of an organic semiconductor was assembled from octaniline (octamer of polyaniline) conjugated to DNA. Facile reconfiguration between the monomer and dimer of octaniline–DNA was achieved. The geometry of the dimer and the exciton coupling between octaniline molecules in the assembly was studied both experimentally and theoretically. The octaniline dimer was readily switched between different electronic states by protonic doping and exhibited a Davydov splitting comparable to those previously reported for DNA–dye systems employing dyes with strong transition dipoles. This approach provides a possible platform for studying the fundamental properties of organic semiconductors with DNA-templated assemblies, which serve …

In general, the fault distance and extension length of small faults in the working face of thick coal seams and extremely thick coal seams are short. Due to the limitation of resolution, it is generally difficult to detect such small faults with current methods and instruments. The unclear detection of small faults will have a great impact on the efficient recovery of the intelligent working face. To solve this problem, the numerical simulation and field experiment of small fault reflected in-seam wave detection in the thick coal seam are carried out. In terms of numerical simulation, the three-component elastic wave …

Resistivity Detection And Its Application In Underground Coal Mine Directional Boreholes, Li Bofan, Liu Lei, Fan Tao, Jiang Qiping, Wang Jie
Coal Geology & Exploration
The working face threatened by high gas or Ordovician limestone water pressure generally adopts directional drilling technology to carry out fracturing or grouting works at the bottom of the working face before mining to ensure the safety of mining. In-hole probing in directional boreholes in the bottom plate can reveal the hidden structures in the working face in a more detailed way, and can also realize “one hole for multiple uses”. In order to solve the detection problem in the directional drilling, a method of DC resistivity detection in the horizontal directional drilling is proposed. To solve the problem of …

Gas drainage borehole along coal seams is the most direct and effective gas control method at present. As a common basis for identifying coal bearing formations, natural gamma can tell whether the borehole trajectory is in the target layer according to the formation radioactivity. However, the existing mine-used gamma logging tools can only carry out sliding drilling measurement, which are not applicable to compound drilling or rotary steering drilling, and cannot meet the working condition of continuous gamma dynamic measurement. On the basis of the analysis of the characteristics of the working conditions of MWD and the principle of gamma …

Modeling Vapor Transfer In Soil Water And Heat Simulations: A Modularized, Partially-Coupled Approach, Zhuangji Wang, Dennis Timlin, David Fleisher, Wenguang Sun, Sahila Beegum, Sanai Li, Ya Chen, Vandimalla R. Reddy, Katherine Tully, Robert Horton
Nebraska Water Center: Faculty Publications
Coupled water and heat transfer models are widely used to analyze soil water content and temperature dynamics, evaluate agricultural management systems, and support crop growth modelling. In relatively dry soils, vapor transfer, rather than liquid water flux, becomes the main pathway for water redistribution. However, in some modularized soil simulators, e.g., 2DSOIL (Timlin et al., 1996), vapor transfer is not included, which may induce errors in soil water and heat modelling. Directly embedding vapor transfer into existing water and heat transfer modules may violate the modularized architecture of those simulators. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to design a …

Wind is one of the deadliest and most expensive hazards in the United States. Wind hazards cause significant damage to buildings and economic losses to homeowners. Economic losses average approximately $3.8 billion annually from hurricane winds and are not decreasing, even despite enhanced construction practices to reduce wind damage. Thus, the effectiveness of mitigation strategies should be evaluated in order to lower the cost incurred by this hazard. Several studies have suggested building code improvements to mitigate the wind hazard, this additional comprehensive research provides selecting economically beneficial mitigation strategies to consider in building code revisions. In a step toward …

Optimization Of A Smart Sensor Wearable Knee Sleeve For Measuring Skin Strain To Determine Joint Biomechanics, David Steven Wood
Theses and Dissertations
This work addresses three objectives related to the design and modeling of an instrumented knee sleeve and its high deflection strain gauges for at-home knee rehabilitation. First, a multi-objective Bayesian approach was developed to economically optimize a high deflection strain gauge's mechanical and electrical behavior. Four objective functions were simultaneously optimized with two design variables in seven iterations; 90% faster than a grid search approach. The presented algorithm adjusts variables in the manufacturing process of high deflection strain gauges and produces a sensor with optimized properties for a predetermined purpose. Second, an algorithm was created to accurately approximate the dynamic …

Resolving The Three-Dimensional Rotational And Translational Dynamics Of Single Molecules Using Radially And Azimuthally Polarized Fluorescence, Oumeng Zhang, Weiyan Zhou, Jin Lu, Tingting Wu, Matthew D. Lew
Electrical & Systems Engineering Publications and Presentations
We report a radially and azimuthally polarized (raPol) microscope for high detection and estimation performance in single-molecule orientation-localization microscopy (SMOLM). With 5000 photons detected from Nile red (NR) transiently bound within supported lipid bilayers (SLBs), raPol SMOLM achieves 2.9 nm localization precision, 1.5° orientation precision, and 0.17 sr precision in estimating rotational wobble. Within DPPC SLBs, SMOLM imaging reveals the existence of randomly oriented binding pockets that prevent NR from freely exploring all orientations. Treating the SLBs with cholesterol-loaded methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MβCD-chol) causes NR’s orientational diffusion to be dramatically reduced, but curiously NR’s median lateral displacements drastically increase from 20.8 to …

Stabilizing The Interface Of All-Solid-State Electrolytes Against Cathode Electrodes By Atomic Layer Deposition, Ye Jin, Han Yu, Xiaoqing He, Xinhua Liang
Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
In recent years, with the severe safety problems of organic electrolytes, all-solid-state electrolytes (ASSEs) have been considered as an appealing choice to replace organic electrolytes due to their high reliability and safety. However, the uncontrolled interfacial chemical reactions between electrodes and ASSEs would lead to high interfacial resistance, which is detrimental for the battery performance. In this work, LiFePO4 (LFP) particles were coated with ultra-thin ZrO2 films by atomic layer deposition (ALD) and the effects of thin film coating on the electrochemical performance of lithium-ion batteries using the NASICON-type Li1.5Al0.5Ge1.5(PO4) …
