In olivine chalcogenide Mn2SiX 4 (X = S, Se) compounds, the Mn lattice produces a sawtooth, which is of critical significance in magnetism due to the potential for manifesting at bands in the magnon spectrum, a crucial component in magnonics. The compounds Mn2SiS4 and Mn2SiSe4 in Mn2SiX 4 family undergo antiferromagnetic phase transitions at T â?? 85 K and â?? 66 K, respectively, as determined from the specific heat, Cp(T). The average and local crystal structuresare determined using synchrotron X-ray, neutron diffraction, and X-ray total scattering data followed by Rietveld and pair distribution function (PDF) analysis. It is found from …
Laser Powder Bed Fusion Process, Structure, And Properties: Holistic Approach To Establishing Metallurgical Quality, Hunter Taylor
Laser Powder Bed Fusion Process, Structure, And Properties: Holistic Approach To Establishing Metallurgical Quality, Hunter Taylor
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
The advent of metal additive manufacturing (AM) was posed as a disruption to casting, forging, machining, and forming with the notion "complexity is free". However, since invention in the late 1990's the marketed potential has not been realized. Metal based AM is best viewed from the process-structure-properties-performance (PSPP) paradigm taught in material science and engineering, which links the process history to the part performance. Understanding the complex and localized process control made available by AM creates a significant challenge in defining the materials structure, properties, and performance. The lack of holistic understating of inputs and corresponding results has been identified …

Pioneering Concepts For 3d Electromagnetics, Cesar Valle
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
This work introduces two paradigm changing concepts that will push electromagnetics (EM) to the third dimension. The first of that work involves the introduction of the conformal Spatially Variant Lattice (SVL) algorithm that can conform any periodic structure onto arbitrary curvature. The algorithms robustness is confirmed by conforming a frequency selective surface (FSS) onto an extreme paraboloid, proving the algorithms robustness on high sloping surfaces. Three FSSs were made in total; a standard flat FSS, a projected FSS, and a FSS made through the conformal SVL algorithm. Measured results are shown and match well to simulation.Secondly, in the world of …

Determination Of Oxidation-Reduction Potential And Iron Chemistry For Solutions Generated During The Hydrometallurgical Extraction Of Copper, Jiahao Xu
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
Oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) based on iron chemistry is one of the key operating parameters during the hydrometallurgical extraction of copper. A novel ORP equation was developed previously only based on the variables of temperature and nominal ferric/ferrous ratio to predict the redox potential of the quaternary H2SO4-Fe2(SO4)3-FeSO4-H2O system. However, its applicability in more complex acidic iron sulfate solutions during the hydrometallurgical extraction of copper with different temperatures, acidic concentration, cupric concentration, nominal ferric/ferrous ratio, and total and l iron concentration has not been extended and validated. This work evaluates the applicability of novel oxidation-reduction potential equation in the H2SO4-Fe2(SO4)3-FeSO4-H2O and …
