Hydro-meteorological instrumentation concepts are discussed. The necessity for an economic and reliable telemetering system is recognized and ways are shown how to achieve this objective. Particular discussion is given on total-precipitation and water-content-of-snow sensing. A method is also presented showing how to make isohyetal plots of telemetered precipitation information on an x-y plotter by use of a resistance paper method in conjunction with an analog computer.

Phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of the system CaO-FeO-Fe₂O₃-SiO₂ were studied at 1450° and 1550°C, over a range of pO₂ from 1 to about 10-11 atm. Isothermal phase diagrams and activity-composition diagrams were constructed for 0, 5, 10, 20, and 30 wt pct SiO₂ sections. The data are applicable to further understanding the behavior of simple BOF steelmaking slags. © 1970 The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society - ASM International - The Materials Information Society.

The object of this investigation is to develop and test an apparatus to predict temperature profiles of polymer melts in laminar flow in a heat exchanger, with non-isothermal wall conditions.

A commercial polyethylene melt is pumped at various flow rates through a smooth 0.957 in. I.D. pipe. The entrance temperature of polymer is maintained uniform.

Radially distributed six thermocouples (0.062 in. 0.D.) are placed at 2.5 ft. intervals from the entrance of heat exchanger. Immersion of these probes parallel to the flow direction, reduced the errors due to the conduction of heat from the tube wall to the thermocouple stems. …

Continuous Interfacial Polycondensation Of Nylon 6-10, Sumer Raj Hundia

Nylon 6-10 has been prepared by continuous interfacial polycondensation hexamethylenedlamine and sebacoyl chloride in a stirred system. The effect of monomer concentration and stirring on the intrinsic viscosity of the polyamide 6-10 solution in m-cresol was measured.

As stirring (RPM) and monomer increased the intrinsic and the polymer yield through a maximum. Diffusion coefficients (D_AB) for hexamethylenedlamine were for hexamethylenedlamine were and were used for the calculations of j_D factors and K/DAB ratios. A relationship and j_D factors was established by a correlation curve.

Raman Scattering From Localized Vibrational Modes In Gap, D. T. Hon, W. L. Faust, W. G. Spitzer, P. F. Williams

High-frequency localized vibrational modes of impurities in a III-V compound have been observed by Raman scattering. Three lines from the GaP samples closely correspond to some loccal modes previously reported in infrared studies, and depolarization measurements tend to confirm their proposed assignments. We describe several attractive features of this method for the study of semiconductor impurities.
