Characteristics Of The Background Emission Spectrum From A Miniature Inductively-Coupled Plasma, Richard N. Savage, G. M. Hieftje Jan 1981

Characteristics Of The Background Emission Spectrum From A Miniature Inductively-Coupled Plasma, Richard N. Savage, G. M. Hieftje

Materials Engineering

The spectral characteristics of the background radiation emitted by a miniature inductively-coupled plasma (i.c.p.) are carefully examined and methods for reducing undesirable features discussed. The complex nature of the background emission spectrum for the mini-i.c.p. indicates that careful line selection criteria and background correction procedures should be employed. Extending the torch coolant tube to the bottom of the region being observed in the plasma proved to be the most effective method for reducing undesirable spectral band features. Acute changes in background emission levels with r.f. power and nebulizer gas flow rates emphasize the need for careful control of these parameters …

United States Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District

One of the few reaches of the Missouri River which remains in a relatively natural free-flowing state is a 93 km segment extending from Gavins Point Dam to Ponca State Park, NB. This reach of the river was designated as a National Recreational River (P.L.95-625, Sect. 707, 1978) because the natural and cultural values of this section were considered worthy of preservation. Early in 1979, the Secretary of the Interior designated the Heritage Conservation and Recreation Service (HCRS) as the agency responsible for developing a management plan for the Missouri Recreation River. The HCRS teamed with the U.S. Army Corps …

A Model For Optimization Of The Archer's Compound Bow., Mark Aaron Kincy Jan 1981

A Model For Optimization Of The Archer's Compound Bow., Mark Aaron Kincy

Masters Theses

"The object of this work is to establish an analysis procedure to permit optimization of the design of ti1e compound bow. The distinguishing features of the compound bow are a system of cables and eccentric pulleys which change the leverage between the bow string and the bow limbs as the string is drawn. This approach concentrates on an accurate representation of the limb mechanics which will allow the design of eccentric wheels to improve the energy storage potential of the bow and thereby increases the velocity of an arrow cast by the bow.

The compound bow is a rather unique …

A Determination Of The Energy Storage Capacity Of The Diels-Alder Reaction Between Methylfuran And Maleic Anhydride As Applied To Storing Solar Energy, Brent Gregory Sparks Jan 1981

A Determination Of The Energy Storage Capacity Of The Diels-Alder Reaction Between Methylfuran And Maleic Anhydride As Applied To Storing Solar Energy, Brent Gregory Sparks

Masters Theses

“The heat storage capacity of the Diels-Alder reaction between 2-methylfuran and maleic anhydride is calculated using reaction parameters obtained from solution calorimetry. An equilibrium constant of .614 1/mol and a heat of reaction of 14.33 Kcal/mole were obtained from experiments at 45°C. A reaction ΔCp of -21.8 cal/mole was calculated from heat capacity information at 25°C. From these parameters, a solution initially seven molar in methylfuran and maleic anhydride was found to have a maximum apparent volumetric heat capacity of about 1.85 times that of water. This maximum occurs at about 335 K. Typical active solar energy schemes operate …
