Stop Blaming My Users: Illumination Of The Technocentric Mythos Bias, Ervin H. Frenzel, Richard Lightcap Jul 2026

Stop Blaming My Users: Illumination Of The Technocentric Mythos Bias, Ervin H. Frenzel, Richard Lightcap

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

Abstract -This conceptual essay addresses the need for systemic and systematic transdisciplinary analytical techniques within cybersecurity and technical security. This conceptual essay is contingent upon recognition that cybersecurity is not simply technical in nature, it does not need an adversary, and more importantly it is based upon systems engineering and systems thinking.  The essay contributes a socio-technical attribution chain and field-specific ontology/taxonomy which distinguish user-triggered events from root causes, latent conditions, technical debt, validation failures, governance failures, and attribution bias before assigning responsibility to end users. It systematically defines an ontology inclusive of developer technical debt, organizational debt arising from …

Integrated Construction Risk Assessment Framework, Felix Delmonte

Mechanical and Civil Engineering Faculty Publications

An integrated risk assessment architecture for construction projects synthesizes data governance, BIM, Digital Twins, and hybrid analytics into a continuous feedback loop that links sensing, semantic modelling, probabilistic simulation, and organizational learning. The framework distinguishes aleatory from cognitive uncertainty and prescribes layered methods: Monte Carlo and Bayesian updating for measurable variability; fuzzy inference and consensus aggregation for linguistic and expert judgements; and graph-based discovery for dynamic cyber-physical topologies represented as time-varying graphs 𝐺𝑡. Governance primitives, aligned with ISO 19650, enforce provenance, interoperability, and staged readiness thresholds that prevent premature prescriptive outputs until model convergence criteria are met. BIM and GIS …

Adaptive Task-Driven Lidar Point Cloud Compression For Autonomous Driving, Su Hyun Kim Jul 2026

Adaptive Task-Driven Lidar Point Cloud Compression For Autonomous Driving, Su Hyun Kim

Master's Theses

Autonomous-driving systems generate large LiDAR point clouds, but compression can damage the sparse object-support structure needed by 3D detectors even when reconstructions appear visually plausible. This thesis asks whether adaptive LiDAR compression can preserve downstream detection better than uniform compression by allocating more fidelity to detector-relevant regions. The main study builds a mask-aware range-image codec with an encoder-decoder bottleneck, an importance head, and an adaptive quantization variant. It compares this adaptive variant package with a confirmed masked uniform baseline under one fixed RangeDet evaluation surface and one fixed KITTI validation subset. Two supporting studies bound the result: a projection-reconstruction PointPillars …

Early Failure Detection In Web Navigation Agents Via Closed Sequential Pattern Mining, Sergio Talavera Jul 2026

Early Failure Detection In Web Navigation Agents Via Closed Sequential Pattern Mining, Sergio Talavera

Master's Theses

LLM-based web navigation agents fail on the majority of tasks while consuming substantial computational resources before failure becomes apparent. This thesis investigates whether closed sequential pattern mining on the first K steps of agent execution traces can predict task failure early enough to enable meaningful computational savings with interpretable justification. We develop a two-phase system: an offline pipeline that symbolizes agent traces, extracts K-step prefixes, mines closed patterns via BIDE+, and ranks them by failure precision; and an online detector that matches live executions against the resulting pattern library. We evaluate on 1,544 MiniWoB++ traces across three open-weight language models …

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)

The use of ethanol-blended fuel in a standard vehicle can reduce combustion quality, which has an impact on decreasing vehicle performance. At the above 20% blend level, it affects vehicle performance and requires adjustments to engine settings or the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) before use on conventional engines. This study investigates the effect of aftermarket ECU settings on the performance of a 150 cc motorcycle operating on a gasoline-ethanol blend. Four fuel variations were tested: Pertalite (P100), revvo 90 (R100), and 30% ethanol blends (PE30 and RE30). This study analyzes the effects of optimizing injection duration and ignition timing settings …

Moral: Multimodal Reasoning For Autonomous Language Models With Sensor-Grounded Spatial Bev Rendering, Ambarish Govindarajulu Kaliamurthi Jul 2026

Moral: Multimodal Reasoning For Autonomous Language Models With Sensor-Grounded Spatial Bev Rendering, Ambarish Govindarajulu Kaliamurthi

Master's Theses

Autonomous-driving vision-language models describe scenes fluently but reason poorly about metric, safety-critical spatial relationships because they do not read sensor geometry in a grounded way. This thesis presents MoRAL (Multimodal Reasoning for Autonomous Language Models), a two-stage fine-tuning pipeline that teaches a compact 2-billion-parameter VLM to decode a physics-encoded Bird’s Eye View (BEV) representation – LiDAR distance as color, object class as cluster shape, radar Doppler velocity as directional wedges – and then trains it to reason over that representation for driving decisions. Stage 2 then fine-tunes on 57,696 teacher-generated chain-of-thought examples across eight question types, using Cosmos-Reason2-8B as teacher …

The Zeal Instruction Set Architecture, Joseph A. Gerani Jul 2026

The Zeal Instruction Set Architecture, Joseph A. Gerani

Master's Theses

The Instruction Set Architecture of a CPU (Central Processing Unit) determines what type of instructions the CPU is able to understand, how those instructions are encoded, and what it should output upon receiving those instructions as input. There are currently three popular ISAs meant for the consumer market: x86, RISC-V, and ARM, as well as a fourth that mostly now exists in the server market by the name of Power. One of the most important parts of an ISA is for engineers to be able to understand it and make use of it. If an ISA is too complicated, nobody …

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

The overwhelming costs of maintenance for reinforced concrete structures due to steel corrosion have motivated researchers to look for alternatives. One of the promising alternatives is Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP). Among FRP materials, Carbon FRP (CFRP) is the most attractive material for prestressed concrete members due to its high tensile strength and modulus of elasticity. Previous studies investigated the use of CFRP in prestressed concrete through experimental tests and theoretical analysis. However, there is a significant need for more experimental data to develop an accurate model that can accurately predict the behavior of CFRP prestressed concrete beams. In the current …

Co2 Fracturing Stimulation Technology For Low-Yield Directional Coalbed Methane Wells And Its Applications, Zhang Junsheng, Cao Yunxing, Wang Li, Wang Zhongbin, Yang Baige, Shi Bin, Cao Yongsen, Xu Fengyi

Coal Geology & Exploration

Background In China, low-yield coalbed methane (CBM) wells represent a high proportion of approximately 57% (over 12400 wells), generally encountering challenges such as low pressure, dry reservoirs, and near-wellbore formation damage and blockage. Conventional hydraulic fracturing is prone to induce water blocking damage, while treatments such as acidification offer only limited blockage-removing radii. Therefore, existing techniques are insufficient to achieve blockage removal and permeability enhancement while avoiding reservoir damage. Exploring efficient waterless stimulation technologies suitable for these low-yield wells is of great significance for increasing CBM production and advancing the CBM industry. Methods This study investigated directional wells PXC-03 and …

Research And Practice Of Four-Dimensional In-Situ Stress Fields For Deep Coalbed Methane Production: A Case Study Of The Daning-Jixian Block, Ordos Basin, Wang Chengwang, Chen Yiyu, Gao Deli, Zhao Haifeng, Chen Gaojie

Coal Geology & Exploration

Background Deep coalbed methane (CBM) reservoirs are characterized by well-developed microstructures and natural fractures, along with highly heterogeneous rock mechanical properties and in-situ stress field distribution. The CBM production of the reservoirs tends to cause constantly evolving formation pressure and in-situ stress within the control ranges of CBM wells, further enhancing the complexity of stress distribution. Additionally, severe fracturing channeling can be observed between new and old wells. This phenomenon is primarily triggered by in-situ stress variations induced by large-scale fracturing and CBM production. Therefore, accurately assessing the dynamic evolutionary patterns of in-situ stresses in reservoirs after fracturing and during …
