This thesis analyzes the current scope of environmental injustice on Native lands in the U.S. Specifically it examines The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) and its impacts on the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North Dakota. Western colonialism and capitalism have dominated North American ecosystems since their forcible introduction hundreds of years ago, causing the commodification of natural resources and leading to injustices such as that of the “Black Snake.” However, the story of The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s resistance will be analyzed through the framework of Indigenous philosophy and environmental justice. Unpacking The Impact Of Screen Time On Attention And Focus On Elementary Students In Elizabeth, Nj, Gabriela M. Rivera, Shanique Coombs
The Kean Review: Journal in Student Research
As digital technology becomes more embedded in everyday life, concerns have grown on how it can impact children’s cognitive development. This study explores how screen time influences attention span and focuses on elementary school students in Elizabeth, NJ. Research was conducted utilizing a quantitative method. Exactly 20 parents of elementary school students voluntarily filled out a Microsoft Forms questionnaire. The data suggests a strong correlation between excessive screen time and a decrease in focusing abilities, especially in an academic setting. These results highlight a need for limits on screen exposure among children to promote proper cognitive development and overall well-being.

This study examines the effectiveness of digital learning media, namely VlogNow and Wordwall, in improving students’ understanding of disaster mitigation material in Geography for eleventh-grade IPS students at MAN Kota Magelang. The school’s location, which is close to landslide-prone areas in Windusari District and within the impact zone of Mount Merapi, underscores the importance of disaster preparedness education. This study investigates the effectiveness of VlogNow and Wordwall in improving students’ cognitive learning outcomes on disaster mitigation. The number of disaster incidents in Indonesia causes disaster risk reduction efforts in Indonesia, especially young people, to need to be optimally increased. The extent of efforts to improve the preparedness of the younger generation cannot be known without going through the initial identification of disaster preparedness based on the youth profile. The physical activity levels of university students are decreasing daily due to academic burden and society’s modernisation. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between physical activity, body composition, and physical fitness among university students. The research was carried out in 2024 with a sample totalling N = 354 students, n = 286 (80.8% male), aged 19–27, and n = 68 (19.2% female), aged 19 to 27 (22.84 ± 2.60 in total). The International Physical Activity Questionnaire was used to quantify physical activity levels. Furthermore, the IN-F500 body composition analyser was used to determine body composition. Gender bias remains a significant systemic barrier for women in academic leadership, restricting both career advancement and influence that creates a leadership gap, accenting the need for evidence-based strategies to promote equity and inclusive leadership pathways. Guided by social role theory, which explains in what way incongruence between communal female roles and agentic leadership roles leads to prejudice against women leaders, we investigated their perceptions of gender bias across four countries each with different local sociocultural gender norms, religious interpretations and national policies: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Pakistan. This report by the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research examines labor market dynamics in Battle Creek, finding that roughly 75 percent of jobs in the city are held by workers who live outside the city limits, with significant skill mismatches between city residents and local employer needs. This mismatch helps explain persistently low wages, elevated poverty rates, and high reliance on public assistance among city residents despite a strong manufacturing base and growing logistics, food processing, and machining sectors. This report covers a three-year partnership between the LSU Social Research and Evaluation Center, East Baton Rouge Parish Schools (EBR Schools), and DreamBox Learning, in which we conducted a longitudinal, multi-method examination of the effectiveness of DreamBox’s tech-based math intervention on EBRPS student performance. The three key research questions – developed with guidance from our Gates Foundation funding partners – are outlined below with abbreviated conclusions. The body of the report provides further detail on the methods, results, and interpretations of our quantitative study. We complement these conclusions with qualitative insights drawn from focus groups with teachers and students.

Little is known about how career and technical education (CTE) work-based learning (WBL) programs support student academic achievement and workforce outcomes. Guided by Kolb’s experiential learning theory, the purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore high school graduates’ perceptions of their CTE WBL experiences and to identify how completing a CTE WBL program supported and hindered their academic and workforce achievement. Ten graduates of CTE WBL programs were recruited via postsecondary CTE school outreach, Facebook, and LinkedIn groups and participated in a semistructured interview. The problem for this study was that mathematics preparation for students in K–3 classrooms often does not lead to mathematics proficiency for third grade students. Guided by Wigfield’s expectancy value theory, the purpose of this qualitative study was to explore teachers’ perspectives of children’s expectations and values related to mathematics and challenges teachers describe in supporting children’s mathematics achievement. Data were collected through 12 semistructured interviews with K–3 teachers in in a public school district in the eastern United States. The purpose is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the various internal and external factors that either promote or hinder the use of ChatGPT for academic help-seeking. Self-esteem affects many other abilities of students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD). Teachers can play a crucial role in influencing the self-esteem of these students. This interpretive qualitative study aims to investigate teachers' perceptions of the self-esteem of students with EBD, identify the factors they believe affect these students’ self-esteem, and explore the strategies they employ to enhance the self-esteem of these students. The results reveal three key themes: first, teachers perceive that students with EBD frequently face challenges related to self-esteem; second, they recognize that a variety of factors influence the self-esteem of these students; and third, teachers …

The very fast development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) in the last decade have changed the way of mental health practice internationally, including Indonesia. Although these technologies extend reach, deepen therapeutic engagement, and facilitate clinical analysis, they also present serious ethical challenges with respect to privacy, algorithmic bias, depersonalization, and disparity. This integrative review draws on literature from counseling, digital ethics, immersive technologies, and Indonesian philosophical studies to consider how Pancasila can serve as a culturally situated ethical guide for technology-mediated counseling.
