Rural Students' College Choice And The Impact Of Dual Enrollment Programs And College Cost, Elise J. Cain
Rural Students' College Choice And The Impact Of Dual Enrollment Programs And College Cost, Elise J. Cain
New York Journal of Student Affairs
This article explores the college-choice processes of two college students who graduated high school from rural areas in New York State. Hossler and Gallagher’s (1987) three-stage model of the college-choice process was used as the theoretical framework for this study. To gain in-depth knowledge about students’ predisposition, search, and choice stages, narrative inquiry was employed. This article specifically highlights how dual enrollment courses played key roles within the college-choice processes of these students. These findings suggest that there is a need for additional education about college costs and dual enrollment programs for rural students and their families.

The strengths of female leadership are illustrated through the 400 year history of the Catholic Sisters of St. Joseph (CSSJ) and their commitment to their charism which focuses on unity, inclusion and relationship building. Effects Of A Videogame In Math Performance And Anxiety In Primary School Authors, Mariana Rocha, Pierpaolo Dondio
Effects Of A Videogame In Math Performance And Anxiety In Primary School Authors, Mariana Rocha, Pierpaolo Dondio
Conference papers
The present paper describes the design and evaluation of a videogame developed to support math education and overcome math anxiety (MA) at the primary school level. The game narrative is based on the history of math. The player travels back on time and meets on-player characters such as Pythagoras of Samos and Ada Lovelace, learning about how math was used during their times. The player is invited to play a minigame where the concepts shared by the characters are used as a strategy to win. The game’s evaluation consisted of a pre and post-testing study that measured students’ math performance …

Self-Debasing Cognitive Distortions Restructuring Intervention Down Regulate Bystanders Emotional And Behavioural Reactions To Witnessing School Bullying, Segun E. Adewoye, Annelize Du Plessis
The Qualitative Report
Self-debasing cognitive distortion influences a person’s interpretation and increases the likelihood of negative reactions to events. Despite the theoretical support for the significant influence that cognition has in the onset and maintenance of behavioural and emotional reactions to victimisation, little research has been done on proactive cognitive strategy to down regulate negative emotional and behavioural reactions to witnessing bullying. For this reason, a qualitative descriptive-exploratory design was utilised to explore 10 early adolescent bystanders' reactions to school bullying following a self-debasing cognitive distortion restructuring intervention. Findings indicated that there were reductions in bystanders’ negative reactions to witnessing bullying that resulted …
