An Evaluation Of Student-Led Data Notebooks, Desiree M. Thompson
Doctor of Education (Ed.D)
The purpose of this study was to examine teachers' perceptions of data notebooks after implementation in an elementary school in Northeast Florida. This quantitative study was founded on the goal-setting theory, which focuses on setting attainable goals for motivation. The research participants were 45 teachers from a K-5 school. The participants varied in grade level and experience. Data were collected via a survey after teachers had fully implemented data notebooks in the classroom. Understanding teachers' perceptions of data notebooks will encourage school leaders to implement data notebooks to strengthen student accountability, student motivation, and the instructional process in the classroom.

Principals’ Perceptions Of The Importance Of Teacher Certification In Rural Christian Schools, Ronda L. Dry
Doctor of Education (Ed.D)
The literature associated with principals' perceptions of certified/uncertified teachers within private Christian schools is limited, specifically in rural communities. Therefore, little is known about principals’ perceptions of the importance of teacher certification in rural Christian schools. The purpose of the study was to evaluate principals’ perceptions concerning the pedagogical practices of certified teachers as compared to the pedagogical practices of teachers who are not certified. Specific to this study, teacher certification was defined as certification earned through the state or certification through a school-accrediting organization. A total of 82 principals were surveyed and asked to identify their perceptions of the …

This study examined communicative processes at multiple levels that may influence students’ academic resilience through transitions. Participant interviews (N = 23) revealed that at the individual level, students develop a resilient mindset and effective academic strategies, engage in self-care, and compartmentalize. At the relational level, students rely on teachers to demonstrate positive teaching behaviors, receive academic and emotional support from a variety of sources, and find role models to inspire resilience. Finally, students reported that the campus community gave opportunities to build support networks and access campus resources, but identified threats to effective use of these resilience-building opportunities. Finally, …

Postdoctoral positions provide critical opportunities for early-career ecologists to build transferable skills, knowledge, and networks that will prepare them for professional success. However, these positions often come with personal and professional challenges such as stress, isolation, and lack of agency. Here, we describe a peer-led postdoc program we created to maximize benefits and minimize challenges while preparing ourselves for a wide range of possible future careers using our training and expertise in ecology. We also give recommendations for other postdocs and early-career scientists in ecology and across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields seeking to build a similar program.

Doctor of Education (Ed.D)
Social-emotional learning (SEL) has become a part of education to enhance learning by catering to students' personal and social advancement. Unlike many other districts, this local district has pushed for a more unified process to implement SEL in the classrooms. The implementation of SEL varies from one district to another. However, a factor to SEL's successful implementation is adequate training for classroom teachers. Another factor that affects its implementation is the perception with which classroom teachers apply the concepts acquired from the training. The research data highlights the benefits of SEL effectively implemented at the classroom level. Classroom teachers are …

Conditional Cash Transfer Program Design: A Case Study Of Parent Educational Attitudes And Experiences In One Honduran Village, Karsen Ward
Senior Theses
In Honduras and other countries globally, there is a large gap to fill in school enrolment and attendance before the Sustainable Development Goal of universal quality education can be achieved. One method that has grown in popularity over the past couple of decades is the use of conditional cash transfer (CCT) programs, which serve to incentivize families in the relevant educational area of need. In Honduras, students still need to be encouraged to enroll in and regularly attend school, so this is what is primarily incentivized. The literature review of this paper compiles the takeaways of a variety of existing …

Standards-Based Grading At The Secondary Level: A Review Of Literature, Jacie White
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
Grading systems have become a topic of interest at the secondary level. Even though the shift to standards-based grading is a daunting task for districts, post-secondary educational institutions are taking on grading reform at even higher educational levels. It is challenging for secondary teachers to narrow down the key elements of grading and prepare for the shift in mindset needed for a standards-based system. Research shows beneficial elements for learning after implementing a full standards-based system, but transforming a district’s grading system is a major undertaking. While there are benefits for all stakeholders involved when reforming beliefs about grading practices, …

However, their effectiveness is dependent on a teacher's digital fluency including teachers' self-efficacy. This school improvement plan seeks to build teachers' digital fluency, especially in these two …
Inclusion Isn't Always The Answer: Effects Of Alternate Learning Environments For Elementary Students With Disabilities, Emily Mick
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
When it comes to writing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), the least restrictive environment (LRE) is described as the general education classroom. However for some students, especially those who struggle socially, emotionally, and behaviorally, the general education environment is the most restrictive. This research aims to answer the question of whether inclusion should be the goal for all students or if an alternate learning environment would lead to improved social emotional health of students with special needs. Through quantitative data collection and a descriptive research design, the researcher challenges the idea that inclusive practice is best practice. Findings suggest that although …

Negative student behaviors are increasing in schools today (Molly et al., 2013). When students engage in problem behaviors, they are more likely to fall through the cracks and their educational gap increases. Therefore, something needs to be done in school systems to decrease these problem behaviors. PBIS is an implementation framework that is designed to improve academic and social behavior outcomes for all students (Sungai & Simonsen, 2012). The purpose of this literature review is to explore the effects of PBIS on student behavior and ways to implement PBIS successfully. Overall, research shows that when PBIS is implemented correctly and …
