School districts in Missouri are responsible for public K-12 education and must be accredited to educate children. As a result, there is an evoking interest, demanding attention in Missouri public schools' quality and the students who transfer from unaccredited, critically low-performing schools to accredited, significantly betterperforming schools. These students have a higher risk of failing academically or dropping out of school and transitioning successfully into adulthood. The purpose of this qualitative study was to better understand the experiences of Black male students who are members of Black Greek Letter Fraternities (BGLF) while attending a large institution. This study examines the academic practices of the fraternity members, and the effects fraternity membership has on their academic progress. For this study, four Black male undergraduate fraternity members and five graduates shared stories of their undergraduate experiences and how being in a fraternity impacted their academic progress. Research has shown teachers are the most important factor when determining student success, even with the field of education in a constant state of uncertainty. Schools all over the nation are struggling to acquire quality teachers into their buildings, and teacher preparation programs are having a difficult time producing enough teacher candidates. This study investigated what initial jobs students choose to take in their first year after completing an educational degree from one study university’s teacher preparation program, through numerous secondary data points and a participant survey. Isn’t getting a vaccine a decision of choice or personal liberty? Yes, but only if personal choices don’t create health risks for other citizens. We no longer permit individuals to smoke in public spaces in which second-hand smoke can harm the health of others. In the case of COVID-19, at best, individuals whose choice it is not to be vaccinated slow progress toward herd immunity. At worst, if enough individuals choose not to vaccinate, this pandemic continues unabated, enabling variants of the original virus to emerge – variants that are often of increasing virulence. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) requires parents to be involved in all parts of the education decision-making process, including the IEP meeting. Although there is a vast body of research about parents of students receiving special education services and their perspectives of the IEP meeting, little is known about parents’ perspectives of the IEP meeting while students are at a nonpublic school. Understanding the perspectives of parents whose students attend nonpublic schools will allow for more collaboration and more effective IEP for their students attending nonpublic schools. East Tennessee State University has released its annual holiday video, a parody of “Santa Baby” with the lyrics rewritten to “Santa Bucky.”

Making a festive appearance in the 2021 edition is Greyscale, one of ETSU’s best known a cappella ensembles. They perform a broad mix of music, including jazz and pop, and are well-known on campus and throughout the region.

ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland and First Lady Donna Noland are also part of the video, as is the university’s mascot, Bucky.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (December 2021) – For Tennesseans, passion flowers are a point of regional pride, officially designated as a Tennessee state flower back in 1919. Now, a century later, paleontologists have found fossil evidence of an extinct Appalachian passion flower species, Passiflora appalachiana, previously unknown to science. 

This ancient species is unique to the fossil record of Tennessee, museum officials said, and it is proof that these flowers have adorned the local landscape for millions of years.

The current climate in the United States reflects a heightened focus on examining and challenging systemic inequities that have long impacted Black individuals. Culturally responsive education efforts have increased as schools experience increasingly diverse populations. The purpose of this study was to gain an understanding of how district leaders are implementing the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Culturally Responsive-Sustaining (CR-S) Education Framework in advancing equity between their Black and White student populations. This study examined the strategies and practices implemented in a preschool classroom to successfully address social-emotional learning (SEL) for preschool children with intensive needs. There is a gap in the literature regarding how preschool teachers integrate instructional practices and SEL in preschool classroom settings with challenging student behaviors. The study identified and analyzed the experiences of coaches and teachers using embedded SEL strategies and instructional practices to support the needs of challenging students. Exploratory-descriptive qualitative research sought to identify the critical components necessary for comprehensive implementation of instructional coaching. The study utilized semi-structured interviews with seven tenured urban and suburban Central New York State (NYS) school district administrators in positions such as assistant superintendents, directors, or supervisors of professional development or curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The purpose of this qualitative, descriptive phenomenological research study was to examine the factors that influenced school counselors’ beliefs in career and technical education (CTE) programs and how their beliefs influenced their recommendation of CTE enrollment to students in Grades 7–12. Using semi-structured, in-depth interviews, this study examined the lived experiences and beliefs of six Grade 7–12 school counselors that influenced their CTE program recommendations. The results of this qualitative research study indicated that contrary to the literature review, most of the participants recognized the importance of CTE and saw CTE positively, indicating the need for career awareness for students …
