The term "model" school has two meanings. One is that which relates to an elementary school, sometimes a secondary school, connected more or less intimately with the professional work of a normal school, or training school for teachers. The other refers to a school which presumes to show the efficiency of certain educational theories and to increase the efficiency of the schools of the state, nation or empire by setting an example. This study has been undertaken for the purpose of securing an idea of some of the more important professional conditions and tendencies observable in the teaching body as found in the public schools of Massachusetts.
