For aging adults, camping can be a way to improve their quality of life, fulfill their roles as grandparents and parents, and maintain independence. This design-based research study explored the feedback process, resulting actions, and changing instructional perspectives involving teachers, community members, and researchers leading to enhanced professional development offered to K-12 teachers of multilingual students. Specifically, the feedback from a community advisory council and teachers significantly shaped researchers’ approaches to designing and adapting a literacy course to address the needs of multilingual students’ caregivers. The findings underscore the importance of a holistic approach to professional development and highlight the multicultural perspectives that academics can discover by involving both community stakeholders and teachers in promoting impactful practices for multilingual learners.

Innovations In Educational Research: Developing An Original Questionnaire To Measure New Mexico’S Teacher Practices And Beliefs Related To Project-Based Learning And Culturally And Linguistically Responsive Teaching, Zachary R. Ramsey

This dissertation investigates teacher practices and beliefs related to project-based learning (PBL) and culturally and linguistically responsive teaching (CLRT), central to New Mexico’s educational reform efforts following Martinez & Yazzie v. New Mexico (2018). The study also explored teachers’ professional learning needs and their awareness of the state’s reform initiatives. I collected responses from 37 participants using an original questionnaire instrument. While the findings are not generalizable, they reveal that teachers practiced elements of PBL and CLRT with moderate frequency and generally believed in their efficacy for improving educational outcomes for diverse student groups. This dissertation explored Pueblo women and their perspectives on pathways to leadership and examined ways to provide networking and professional development for Pueblo women. This study identified a number of important themes that offer a better understanding of the particular dynamics Pueblo women encounter as leaders. Four findings emerged from the study: a) bridging traditions; balancing cultural values, b) mediation of conflict through cultural lenses, c) wisdom of generations on mentorship and role models, and d) empowering emerging leaders. In Fall 2022, three librarians representing the outreach and engagement department and reference and instruction department at Loyola Marymount University’s William H. Hannon Library developed a three-part orientation experience to welcome new theological studies graduate students. The three parts consisted of a 10-minute welcome via Zoom by two outreach librarians; a “meet and greet” library orientation and VIP tour co-presented by an outreach librarian and the librarian for theological studies; and an in-depth instruction session led by the librarian for theological studies. This case study investigated middle school students’ perceptions of digital game-based learning (DGBL) in the classroom, focusing on engagement, motivation, and academic achievement. Using Piaget’s (1962) Constructivist Learning Theory as a framework, the research examined the influence of interactive digital games on students’ educational experiences. A qualitative study was utilized, using Likert scale surveys and open-ended questions to gather rich, descriptive data from students across grades 6-8. Introduction: Occupational therapy using Ayres Sensory Integration® (OT-ASI) is an evidence-based approach that addresses sensory integration differences to support participation for autistic students in daily occupations, including education (Hume et al., 2021; Schaaf & Mailloux, 2015). However, its evidence for its use in school-based practice is still emerging (Whiting et. al., 2023; Whiting et al., 2025). This interpretive phenomenological study illustrated how a group of primary school teachers in Nicaragua used ontological values to orient their experiences and negotiations of a destabilizing socio-political crisis compounded by COVID-19. Set within a framework of education in emergencies, this study employed short-term ethnographic methods and trauma-informed principles to explore the dynamic and interconnected domains and relationships during collective duress, and the organic resilience that emerged to preserve core priorities.
