Developmental Disabilities Network Journal

Family involvement is essential for positive school outcomes. Yet research suggests that family engagement for students with disabilities may be marked by conflict. Furthermore, creating an environment that promotes active engagement for immigrant families may be challenging. In this paper, we synthesize existing research, legal guidance, and community-engaged insights to present four practice-oriented recommendations for educators and practitioners working with immigrant families of children with disabilities. Grounded in Hans and Love’s stages of immigrant family engagement, these recommendations aim to support meaningful and culturally responsive participation in special education processes.

This qualitative case study used Strayhorn’s Sense of Belonging Model (2018) to examine how collegiate Black men experienced affirmation, connection, and mattering through participation in Leaders of the Free World (LFW), a culturally grounded program integrating mentoring, leadership development, and short term study abroad. Through semi structured interviews, a focus group, and document analysis, five themes emerged: (1) Global Exposure and Cultural Heritage, (2) Identity Development, (3) Academic Realignment, (4) Mentoring and Relationship Growth, and (5) Leadership Capacity Building. This paper summarizes research on the impact of the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program at Al-Quds Bard College, which since 2009 has trained more than 600 Palestinian K-12 teachers working across the West Bank and reaching over 120,000 students, many in disadvantaged communities. Supported in part by the Education Above All foundation, the program combines educational theory, discipline-based knowledge, classroom research, and reflective practice, requiring in-service teachers to experiment with new teaching approaches in their own classrooms. Deficit-laden language like ‘behavior problem,’ ‘not college material,’ ‘won’t fit in’, ‘not a cultural fit’, operates as a systemic form of implicit bias and microaggression in school settings. Despite decades of research on school belonging and well-being, school psychology has yet to integrate these exclusionary discursive practices into a coherent health-determinant model that also accounts for the current anti-diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policy environment. The SC Administrator Working Conditions Survey (SCAWCS) was developed to systematically examine the work environments of school leaders. Grounded in the job demands-resources (JD-R) model, the survey conceptualizes administrator working conditions as a balance between the demands of the role and the resources available to support it. The JD-R framework emphasizes that high job demands, such as workload and accountability pressures, can contribute to stress and burnout when not sufficiently offset by job resources. This phenomenological study explores the lived experiences of 4 individuals with aphasia (1 female, 3 male; 3 Catholic, 1 Lutheran) regarding their relationship with and engagement with the Bible. Participants completed three remote sessions via Zoom. In Session 1, participants completed the Test of Nonverbal Intelligence, Fourth Edition, (TONI-4), and the remote Quick Aphasia Battery (QAB). In Session 2, participants engaged in a semi-structured interview led by the researcher. In Session 3, the researchers presented preliminary analysis to receive feedback from participants. Methods – This systematic review synthesized evidence from fifteen peer-reviewed studies examining diverse teaching strategies in graduate nutrition programs. Results – Most interventions employed simulation-based learning, experiential placements, or flipped classrooms, often incorporating technology such as virtual simulations and online collaborative platforms. Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

Parents are critical influences on children's computer science (CS) pathways, yet families’ involvement remains understudied. Guided by parental involvement and community cultural wealth frameworks, this work-in-progress examined survey data from 53 parents representing families historically underrepresented in computing within California (71% women; 54% Hispanic/Latin/x/e). Findings revealed that CS school curriculum familiarity and awareness of CS community events significantly predicted parent-child CS conversations, while parent CS confidence and attitudes did not, suggesting that curriculum transparency and community connections can promote equitable involvement. Future work will integrate qualitative interviews to examine how families draw upon their cultural wealth.

Objective: Limited faculty understanding of LGBTQ+ student experiences may contribute to exclusionary campus climates and discriminatory practices. This study examined faculty perceptions to identify ways to improve support for LGBTQ+ students and promote inclusive environments.

Method: A descriptive quantitative design was used to examine faculty perceptions of LGBTQ+ students and differences across geographic regions. 142 participants completed the 20-item instrument.

Results: Although regional differences in acceptance were observed, geographic location did not significantly predict faculty attitudes. Faculty acceptance played a key moderating role in the relationship between awareness and engagement in inclusive practices. Findings indicated that faculty attitudes alone are …

Teacher stress is a persistent challenge that negatively affects educator well-being, classroom climate, and student outcomes. Although the prevalence and impact of teacher stress are well-documented. This single-case multiple baseline study investigated the effects of a structured self-compassion and mindfulness intervention on teacher stress, delivery of positive feedback, and student on-task behavior in three general education elementary teachers. Over a 6- week period, participants engaged in mindfulness and self-compassion practices, tracked through a combination of self-report scales (Daily Stress Response Scale, Perceived Stress Scale, SelfCompassion Scale, and Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire) and pre- and post-classroom observations. Prior to the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, access to safe legal abortions was limited and often restricted along racial, economic, and geographic lines. Nearly fifty years later, women’s health policy evolved again following the 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturning Roe v. Wade. This court ruling decimated federal protections of abortion. Purpose: Interprofessional education (IPE) has gained recognition as the best form of preparing health professionals for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPCP) in the healthcare settings. As such, many countries have inculcated IPE into the training of health professionals, but the state of IPE in the Ghana is unknown. Therefore, this study sought to explore the state of IPE and IPCP in Ghana.

Methods: The study employed a qualitative descriptive study in which 16 key informants were interviewed, and data was thematically analysed to describe the state of IPE and IPCP in Ghana.
