Pornography, Problematic Use And Academic Outcomes In College Students: A Cross-Sectional Analysis, Promise Tewogbola, Victoria Bodunde, Deborah Odaudu
Journal of Graduate Education Research
Background: The prevalence of pornography consumption among college students has raised concerns about its potential impact on academic performance. This study aims to examine the relationships between pornography use, academic outcomes, and problematic pornography use among university students.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 739 students from a Midwestern U.S. state university. Participants completed an online survey assessing demographics, grade point average (GPA), pornography consumption frequency, Academic Success Inventory (ASI) scores, and Problematic Pornography Use (PPU) scale scores. Logistic and linear regression analyses were used to examine associations between variables.
Results: Pornography consumers had 41% lower odds of …
Metacognitive Awareness And Learning Approaches Among Graduate Students, Yuewei Shi, Leslie Cordie
Metacognitive Awareness And Learning Approaches Among Graduate Students, Yuewei Shi, Leslie Cordie
Journal of Graduate Education Research
This study explored the relationship between metacognitive awareness and learning approaches in two groups of graduate students: direct-pathway students and adult graduate students. Direct-pathway students transitioned directly from their undergraduate programs to graduate school, while adult graduate students had delayed entry, typically after age 25 and after working for several years. To investigate differences between the two groups, we utilized a self-reported survey incorporating the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) and the Study Skills Inventory for Students (ASSIST). Survey data was analyzed to determine if the groups differed in their metacognitive awareness and learning approaches. The findings revealed that adult graduate …

Teaching And Normalizing Digital Accessibility For Students In The Chemical Sciences, Stefano C G Biagini
Journal of Science Education for Students with Disabilities
Digital accessibility is the inclusive practice of ensuring that all people can equally access digital information. However, this good practice has yet to be fully embraced by practitioners and educators in the chemical sciences. This article will describe and explain the key requirements of digital accessibility and how they apply to educators in the chemical sciences, with the emphasis on supporting visually impaired students; it will illustrate a case study of training students in adopting digital accessibility good practices in order to enable a culture change of greater inclusivity for the next generation; and finally illustrate low cost laboratory adaptations …

Barriers To The Implementation Of Learner-Centered Instruction In The Northeastern United States, Kenneth Davion Ellerbee
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite ongoing attempts to consistently incorporate learner-centered practices in the elementary classroom, teachers face barriers that impede consistent implementation. The problem to be explored in this basic qualitative study was the inconsistent implementation of learner-centered instruction in elementary school classrooms. Guided by learner-centered design theory, the purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore the experiences of elementary school teachers who face barriers to delivering learner-centered instruction. The participants were 15 elementary school teachers in the northeastern United States with at least 5 years of teaching experience. Data were collected using semistructured interviews. Through thematic analysis, five themes were …

Parents’ Perceptions Of Outcomes Of A College Program For Students With Intellectual Disabilities: Beyond The Classroom, Gavin W. Watts, Mariya T. Davis, Eric J. Lopez, Megan A. Reynolds
All Faculty Scholarship (Archived)
Background
As the number of postsecondary education programs offering opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities to attend college increases, so does the investigation into the outcomes of these programs. Gaps in the literature are apparent, especially related to programming at Minority Serving Institutions (MSI).
Method
The study explored parents' observations of their children's outcomes outside of the classroom (e.g., at home, in the community, related to their participation in an inclusive university program. Fourteen parents of currently enrolled students participated in in-depth exit interviews. Applied thematic analysis was conducted on the qualitative data.
Results
Participant responses revealed three major themes: …

Female Students With Disabilities’ Perceptions Of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics Education, Toni Anne Walkowiak
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The demand to increase enrollment in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education programs has intensified globally since the early 21st century. Researchers have concentrated on the gender divide with limited research on female students with disabilities (FSwDs). The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore FSwDs’ perceptions of their successes and challenges with accessibility, inclusion, and support experienced in STEM education programs, as well as their recommendations for improving policies and practices in STEM higher education. The study was grounded in social identity and social learning theories. For this basic qualitative design, semistructured interviews were conducted with nine …

Cripistemology And Creative Practice: Disability, Aesthetics, Digital Art, Generative Ai, Talan Memmott Phd
CLASP Lecture Series
Dr. Memmott’s presentation will showcase “Introducing Lary”—an ongoing AI project that explores the re-invention of the self following life-changing cancer surgery and treatment. This talk profiles the artist’s experience with a laryngeal cancer diagnosis and the medical interventions that follow. Utilizing a variety of AI platforms for both video and image production along with journal entries and medical reports as text prompts, the resulting work is a set of distinctive media that range, in Dr. Memmott’s words, “from the mythic to the horrific; the historical to the speculative.” Though at times the resulting media may emphasize the emergent body horror …

Mental Health Disparities By Race/Ethnicity In Elementary School Populations, Tracy Reimer, Alyssa Kim Bartosh Dr.
Wednesday, February 25, 2026
The study aimed to better understand elementary students’ mental health and well-being before and after the COVID-19 pandemic as well as whether there are differences in elementary students’ self-reported mental health between racial groups. Minnesota Student Survey results were analyzed, and the results of Bonferroni post-hoc tests found significant differences in worrying a lot and feeling sad between racial groups. Hispanic or Latino/Latina students are significantly more likely to worry a lot than all other racial/ethnic groups. Black, African, or African American students are significantly less likely to feel sad than all other racial/ethnic groups except White students. Elementary students’ …
