Static Enforcement Of Termination-Sensitive Noninterference Using The C++ Template Type System, Scott Douglas Constable
Static Enforcement Of Termination-Sensitive Noninterference Using The C++ Template Type System, Scott Douglas Constable
Dissertations - ALL
A side channel is an observable attribute of program execution other than explicit communication, e.g., power usage, execution time, or page fault patterns. A side-channel attack occurs when a malicious adversary observes program secrets through a side channel. This dissertation introduces Covert C++, a library which uses template metaprogramming to superimpose a security-type system on top of C++’s existing type system. Covert C++ enforces an information-flow policy that prevents secret data from influencing program control flow and memory access patterns, thus obviating side-channel leaks. Formally, Covert C++ can facilitate an extended definition of the classical noninterference property, broadened to also …
Structurally Supported Cell-Laden Scaffolds For Bone Tissue Regeneration, Stephen William Sawyer
Structurally Supported Cell-Laden Scaffolds For Bone Tissue Regeneration, Stephen William Sawyer
Dissertations - ALL
Due to challenges associated with current clinical techniques used to treat bone defects, there has been an increased focus on finding a tissue engineered solution. However, while great progress in this field has been achieved, researchers have yet to suitably combine the proper biological and structural environments needed to serve as a complete bone tissue substitute that is comparable to modern clinical solutions.
To achieve the goal of creating a model bone tissue substitute which could eventually serve as a viable therapy for bone trauma, be it caused by congenital medical conditions, age related diseases or high impact forces, three …

Ecohydrology Of Natural And Restored Wetlands In A Glacial Plain, Kyotaek Hwang
Dissertations - ALL
More than half of wetland area in the U.S. have been converted to other land use types for agricultural use and development. Limited understanding of ecological services provided to society by wetlands is another reason for the massive wetland loss in the past. Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and the 1989 federal mandate of “no net wetland loss” supported increased efforts for wetland restoration and creation to compensate for two centuries of ecosystem degradation. Hydrology is a critical driver for wetland formation and sustainability, yet few studies have investigated the ecosystem benefits of restored or constructed wetlands relative …

The Principles Of Calculation Of Preliminary-Stressed Reinforced Concrete Elements Of A Tripping Structure Under Dispersed Arming, Ch.S. Raupov, E.T. Yahshiyev, A.B. Karimova
Journal of Tashkent Institute of Railway Engineers
It is known that the basic principle of the use of reinforcement in the cross section of building structures is associated with ensuring their strength under the action of bending, tensile loads and impacts and the need to reinforce concrete elements that do not have sufficient structural strength for tension and bending. Depending on the purpose and features of the building structures, there are different types of reinforcement and ways to strengthen the elements.

The constant increase in the number of passenger trains has led to the fact that the semi-automatic blocking does not cope with the timely passing trains through the section. This article discusses the carrying capacity of railway section "N-B". The reserve capacity of this section is practically absent, the removal rate of passenger trains increases, which negatively affects the work of the entire railway section. Disposable and required carrying debility is determined. The method of increasing the capacity is chosen for each line depending on the given dimensions of movement, local conditions and technical and economic efficiency of different options.

Feasible Form Parameter Design Of Complex Ship Hull Form Geometry, Thomas L. Mcculloch
Feasible Form Parameter Design Of Complex Ship Hull Form Geometry, Thomas L. Mcculloch
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
This thesis introduces a new methodology for robust form parameter design of complex hull form geometry via constraint programming, automatic differentiation, interval arithmetic, and truncated hierarchical B- splines. To date, there has been no clearly stated methodology for assuring consistency of general (equality and inequality) constraints across an entire geometric form parameter ship hull design space. In contrast, the method to be given here can be used to produce guaranteed narrowing of the design space, such that infeasible portions are eliminated. Furthermore, we can guarantee that any set of form parameters generated by our method will be self consistent. It …

This thesis is concerned with the design and analysis of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) and its improved structure Double Stator Switched Reluctance Motor (DSSRM). Three configurations of SRM viz. Inner Stator, Outer stator and Double Stator are designed and simulated in ANSYS Maxwell Suite. Design parameters are chosen by aiming optimum performance of motor after literature review and analytical study of the motor. SRM is not a line start machine, so power converter circuit is required to excite the motor. Without proper switching of current, desired torque is not obtained in SRM. The converter circuit and switching unit is built …
Performance Optimization Of The Differential Protection Schemes, Monir Hossain
Performance Optimization Of The Differential Protection Schemes, Monir Hossain
LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
Current differential protection principle is superior in terms of sensitivity and speed of operation in comparison with other protection principle used in power systems. From the last five decades, various current differential protection schemes are widely used to protect busbars, transformers, and short-transmission lines. The deployment of high capacity microwave and optical fiber technologies redefined
the line protection systems by facilitating the use of current differential protection schemes for long transmission lines. The common application issue of these schemes is mis-operation due to current transformer (CT) saturation during close-in external faults. Moreover, transformer differential protection schemes face mis-trip due to …

Modeling Of Cantú Syndrome In Zebrafish, Soma Sekhara Singareddy
Modeling Of Cantú Syndrome In Zebrafish, Soma Sekhara Singareddy
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
Although rare, Cantú syndrome (CS) is a debilitating syndrome without any specific therapy, caused by gain-of-function (GOF) mutations in KCNJ8 and ABCC9 genes that encode ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels. To better understand the link between molecular dysfunction and the complex pathophysiology, animal models that can rigorously mirror human CS are essential. Using ABCC9-mutated zebrafish, which can provide significant advantages over mice as an appropriate vertebrate model, GOF has been demonstrated at a cellular level in the ventricular cardiomyocytes. This also marks the first-known characterization of KATP currents in teleost hearts. In addition, sulfonylurea sensitivities of the channels have been …

As a management consultant, over the course of more than 40 years, I have facilitated more than 1500 workshops, seminars, and decision conferences. But when I think back on the times I was a college professor at West Point in the 70s, I often found myself in a position where in addition to teaching, I had to bring together and integrate the needs of very diverse groups of people. Typically, there was time pressure, the stakes were high, and the objectives of the participants conflicted. As an assistant professor, I had no real decision-making authority, but I could help the …

Calvin College currently spends 2.35 million dollars on energy every year. Physical Plant is under pressure to reduce the amount of energy that Calvin purchases from the electrical grid since the college is facing many budget constraints. In addition, President Le Roy signed the President’s Carbon Commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2057. With this need to save money on energy and reduce the college’s carbon footprint, the objective of this project was to determine the largest possible reduction in Calvin’s annual energy costs given a five-million-dollar investment in renewable energy.
