Simulation Analyses Of A Method For Extracting Dynamic Parameters From Forced Vibration Responses, Yumiao Wei, Zhili Zhang, Zhengjun Chang, Junyang Zhao, Xiangyang Li
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To characterize the dynamic features of electromechanical system, a method is researched for dynamic parameters extraction from the forced vibration responses. The forced vibration response signals are processed by HVD method, and the free damped oscillation components are acquired. The SSA-FREEVIB analysis is conducted for the obtained components to measure the dynamic characteristics. The equalization procedures are implemented for the backbones and damping data, the resonance frequency and Q value are therefore accurately estimated. Simulation results show that the calculated resonance frequency and Q value coincide well with the theoretical values. A good anti-noise performance of the proposed …

Effect Of Flow Field Environment On Microstructure Surface Preventing Microorganism Attachment, Chunxi Li, Quanxi Xue, Xiangshan Zhang, Xuemin Ye
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The kinetic characteristics of microorganism model moving in different surfaces and flow field environments are simulated. The internal flow dynamics and the inherent mechanism of antifouling on microstructure surface are examined. The results indicate that for the static flow field, vortices are generated in the micro-pits as microorganism moves above microstructure surface. The velocity in the microstructure surface is greater than that in the smooth surface, and the strain rate and shear stress exerted on microorganism are relatively smaller resulting in the rapid passing the microstructure surface. For the dynamic flow field, the flow field presents regular fluctuations …

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Aiming at the problems that the two-phase flow regime recognition speed is slow and the recognition accuracy is low, a flow regime recognition method is proposed based on cross recursive analysis (CRA) without imaging. The false nearest neighbors are used to analyze flow regime capacitance values measured by capacitance sensor to obtain an optimal embedding dimension; and the embedding dimension of cross recursive plot is established for several typical flow patterns. The capacitance values of the simulation flow regimes and the reference flow regimes are analyzed using cross recursion to get a set of cross recursive plots. The similarity …

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: A design method of the polytopic controller under the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is proposed in addressing the low efficiency of the wind turbine under rated wind speed and uncertainty of the wind speed. Considering high nonlinearity of the aerodynamic system, the Jacobi linearization and the convex decomposition technique are employed to transform the wind turbine system into a polytopic linear parameter varying (LPV) model with the bias torque of the aerodynamic torque as the scheduling variable. By solving the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), a polytopic LPV controller is obtained. The simulation results show that the designed controller …

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To make the trolley of bridge crane move stably with smooth acceleration, a polynomial acceleration trajectory is proposed based on the constraint conditions of the crane and the friction between the trolley and the rail. An anti-swing plan is designed employing the dynamic coupling relationship between the motion of the trolley and the load swing. Results indicate that when the length of the rope is changed, the swing angle of the trolley is still within the limits. The stability of the system is proved by constructing Lyapunov energy equations, and the Barbalat lemma confirms that the planned reference trajectory …

School of Integrative Biological & Chemical Sciences (Formerly Dept. of Chemistry)
Liquid range of nanofluids is a crucial parameter as it intensively determines their application temperature scope. Meanwhile, improved thermal conductivity and stability are of great significances and comprise the main fundamental research topics of nanofluids. In this work, 2- butoxy-3,4-dihydropyran (DP), produced from a convenient one-pot three-component reaction in water, was employed as dual lipophilic brusher and metal nanoparticle anchor. It was found that DP was able to enhance the dispersing ability and thermal conductivity of SiO2 nanoparticle filled deep eutectic solvent (DES) based nanofluids simultaneously. The key to the success of this protocol mainly relies on the electrophilic property …

Breaking Coastal Hypoxia: Destratification Of Gulf Of Mexico Deadzone To Encourage Oxygen Transport Downwards To Maintain Marine Fauna, Veda Thipparthi
LSU Master's Theses
As a consequence of seasonal eutrophication and human input, a vast hypoxic area termed The Dead Zone develops every year in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) during summer along the Louisiana coastline characterized by vertical seawater density-stratification with oxygen concentrations less than 2 mg.l-1 at the seafloor. It poses a threat to bottom-dwelling faunae and their environment which has negative ecological and economic consequences. This project aims to mitigate hypoxia by employing mechanical impellers placed at strategic water depths and locations in the Gulf. Enhanced transport of oxygen results by mixing oxygen-enriched seawater at the surface, downward into the …

Indocyanine-Green-Assisted Near-Infrared Dental Fluorescence Imaging To Detect Common Dental Diseases, As Compared With Dental X-Ray, Yoshita Viraj Holamoge
LSU Master's Theses
Oral health is indicative of a person’s overall health. Even with advances in medical science, dental diseases are very much prevalent in our society. Dental imaging techniques help in the early detection of these dental diseases and eventually avoids the risk of poor oral health as well as medical expenses. Current dental imaging techniques rely mostly on X-ray imaging whose ionizing property is a concern amongst the population. Near-infrared spectrum is known to have tissue penetration property and they belong to the non-ionizing part of the electromagnetic spectrum. This study utilized a contrast agent assisted near-infrared imaging for common dental …

Safety Assessment Of Road Vehicle In Crosswind Considering Driver Behavior, Jiexuan Hu
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
With expansion of the economy, more and more highway networks extend to coastal areas and mountain valley areas. Vehicles will be exposed to strong crosswinds when driven on these highway roads, especially in hurricane season and in winter in these two different topographic areas. Strong crosswinds threaten the safety of transportation infrastructure and passing vehicles in forms of vehicle accidents that usually result in traffic blockage and driver injury, posing negative effects on economic growth. This dissertation aimed to evaluate the vehicle safety when running through crosswinds in consideration of driver behaviors.
Firstly, the aerodynamic characteristics of road vehicles were …
Molecular Dynamics Simulations Of Interaction Of Dna Nucleotides And Lignin Oligomers With Small Molecules And Interfaces, Xinjie Tong
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of interaction of DNA nucleotides with self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) provide valuable information that is critical to the development of a new DNA sequencing technique. We investigated the interactions and transport characteristics of mononucleotides moving through nanoslits with SAMs-covered surfaces. Our simulations focused on nanoslits in which the walls were composed of three different types of SAMs: methylformyl terminated, methyl terminated, and phenoxy terminated. The results demonstrated that the phenoxy terminated surfaces have the shortest required nanoslits length for nucleotides separation.
Using MD simulations, we also investigated the interaction of mono-lignin and oligo-lignols with lipid bilayers and …
