Microgrid Design, Control, And Performance Evaluation For Sustainable Energy Management In Manufacturing, Md. Monirul Islam
Doctoral Dissertations
"This research studies the capacity sizing, control strategies, and performance evaluation of the microgrids with hybrid renewable sources for manufacturing end use customers towards a distributed sustainable energy system paradigm. Microgrid technology has been widely investigated and applied in commercial and residential sector, while for manufacturers, it has been less explored and utilized. To fill the gap, the dissertation first proposes a cost-effective sizing model to identify the capacities as well as control strategies of the components in microgrids considering a commonly used energy tariff, i.e., Time of Use (TOU). Then, the sizing model is extended by integrating control strategies …
Generalization Of Polynomial Chaos For Estimation Of Angular Random Variables, Christine Louise Schmid
Generalization Of Polynomial Chaos For Estimation Of Angular Random Variables, Christine Louise Schmid
Doctoral Dissertations
“The state of a dynamical system will rarely be known perfectly, requiring the variable elements in the state to become random variables. More accurate estimation of the uncertainty in the random variable results in a better understanding of how the random variable will behave at future points in time. Many methods exist for representing a random variable within a system including a polynomial chaos expansion (PCE), which expresses a random variable as a linear combination of basis polynomials.
Polynomial chaos expansions have been studied at length for the joint estimation of states that are purely translational (i.e. described in Cartesian …

The main energy losses in solar cells are related to spectral losses where high energy photons are not used efficiently, and energy is lost via thermalization which reduces the solar cell’s overall efficiency. A way to tackle this is to introduce a luminescent down-shifting layer (LDS) to convert these high energy photons into a lower energy bracket helping the solar cell to absorb them and thus generating a greater power output. In this paper, lumogen dye Violet 570 has been used as LDS coated films of 10μm and 60μm placed on top of Si solar cells. The dye was incorporated …

Zechipc: Time Series Interpolation Method Based On Lebesgue Sampling, Luis Miralles-Pechuán, Muhammad Atif Qureshi, Matthieu Bellucci, Brian Mac Namee
Books/Book Chapters
In this paper, we present an interpolation method based on Lebesgue sampling that could help to develop systems based time series more efficiently. Our methods can transmit times series, frequently used in health monitoring, with the same level of accuracy but using much fewer data. Our method is based in Lebesgue sampling, which collects information depending on the values of the signal (e.g. the signal output is sampled when it crosses specific limits). Lebesgue sampling contains additional information about the shape of the signal in-between two sampled points. Using this information would allow generating an interpolated signal closer to the …

Low-Pass Filtering Or Gain Tuning Free Simple Dc Offset Rejection Technique For Single And Three-Phase Systems, Samet Biricik, Hafiz Ahmed, Mohamed Benbouzid
Articles
This paper aims to address the DC offset rejection problem in grid synchronization algorithm. A simple approach to estimate the unknown grid frequency in the presence of DC offset is proposed for this purpose. Some of the existing techniques available in the literature use either low-pass filter or an additional integrator to eliminate the DC offset. Both approaches require an additional parameter to tune. However, tuning the additional parameter is not straightforward. Moreover, tuning the overall system can be complicated due to the presence of DC offset rejection part. The proposed approach does not require any additional parameter to tune. …
