Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: With respect to weapon system selection problem, in which attribute weights are completely unknown and attribute values are expressed with linguistic information, a multi-attribute group decision-making method based on extended VIKOR was proposed. The intuitionistic fuzzy weighted averaging (IFWA) operator was introduced to aggregate all the individual decision-making information in order to obtain the intuitionistic fuzzy decision matrix. The intuitionistic fuzzy entropy method was utilized to obtain the objective weights of evaluation criteria. The alternative weapon systems were ranked according to the basic concept of extended VIKOR method. A case study of air-to-ground guided missile selection problem for UCAV …

Control System Design Based On Integral Sliding Mode Of Quadrotor, Zengqiang Chen, Chenlu Wang, Li Yi, Zhang Qing, Mingwei Sun

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: A double closed-loop control system based on integral sliding mode was proposed to solve the problems of position and attitude control of an under-actuated, nonlinear coupling quadrotor model. An integral sliding mode control method was applied in the inner loop attitude control and a PID controller was designed in the outer loop position control. Due to the under-actuated property of the quadrotor model, desired pitch and roll angles were given by outer loop controller. The stability of the designed control system was proved by Lyapunov stability theorem. Simulation results on Matlab show the effectiveness of the proposed control system …

Process Model Of Complex R & D Project Based On Design Structure Matrix, Baosen Yang, Kejun Zheng, Lai Ling

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Since complex product R&D project is characteristic with more stochastic factors, a process model was established for complex product R&D project. The model made a comprehensive description of complex information dependencies between activities, timing between the upstream and downstream, feedback iterative relationship, parallel overlapping relationship, constraints and process parameters (time parameters, cost parameters, rework probability, rework impact, learning curve, etc.) by multi-view approach. Some case studies were proposed in detail to illustrate the modeling process. This provides new ways and means of the simulation for the complex product R&D project risk analysis.

Image Object Extraction Based On Semantic Segmentation And Label Loss, Xiaoru Wang, Peirong Xu, Zhihong Yu, Fu Li Aug 2020

Image Object Extraction Based On Semantic Segmentation And Label Loss, Xiaoru Wang, Peirong Xu, Zhihong Yu, Fu Li

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

Object extraction refers to the operation of obtaining an object area from an image based on a small amount of mark information given by users, which is a key step in image processing. In order to obtain a complete object profile, current methods usually require a large number of manual annotations, especially for objects with irregular contours. Since traditional algorithms rely on low-level pixel features without semantic information, and are based on obvious mathematical assumptions (ie, strong inductive bias), it is difficult to completely identify objects. At present, in order to improve the integrity of object extraction, semantic segmentation-based methods …

Biomedical Engineering ETDs

The cell surface is the first interface the host immune system encounters and

its investigation has led to a better understanding of cellular biology and types of

pathways that pathogens target in a host cell. The cell surface has evolved to include

many functions such as manipulation of the cytoskeleton, cell signaling, membrane

trafficking, adhesion, and integration into host tissue. The pathogens of interest are

the pathogenic fungus, Candida albicans, and the parasite, Giardia lamblia and we

investigate the consequences of drug treatments on the cell surface, leading to

promising new targets.

Modeling And Simulation Of A Supercritical Co2-Liquid Sodium Compact Heat Exchanger For Sodium Fast Reactors, Hailei Wang, Sean M. Kissick Aug 2020

Modeling And Simulation Of A Supercritical Co2-Liquid Sodium Compact Heat Exchanger For Sodium Fast Reactors, Hailei Wang, Sean M. Kissick

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Publications

The study focuses on modeling and simulations of sodium-sCO2 intermediary compact heat exchangers for sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFR). A simplified 1-D analytical model was developed in companion with a 3-D CFD model. Using classic heat transfer correlations for Nusselt number, some simulation results using the 1-D model have achieved reasonable match with the CFD simulation results for longer channels (i.e., 40 cm and 80 cm). However, for short channel (10 cm) when axial conduction within the sodium fluid is significant, the 1-D model significantly over-predicted the heat transfer effectiveness. By incorporating the temperature-jump model, the 1-D model can extend its …

Defect Detection In Friction Stir Welding By Measureable Signals, Johnathon Bryce Hunt Aug 2020

Defect Detection In Friction Stir Welding By Measureable Signals, Johnathon Bryce Hunt

Theses and Dissertations

Friction stir welding (FSW) is an advantageous solid-state joining process, suitable for many materials in the energy, aerospace, naval and automotive industries. Like all other welding processes, friction stir welding requires non-destructive evaluation (NDE). The time and resources to preform NDE is expensive. To reduce these costs, nontraditional NDE methods are being developed for FSW. Spectral based defect recognition uses the forces during the welding process to validate weld quality. Although spectral NDE methods have shown promise as an alternative NDE processes, many research welding speeds do not correspond to manufacturing speeds, nor do they explain the relationship between the …

The proposed technique incorporates a switched-capacitor op amp within the measurement circuit to significantly improve the measurement precision while relaxing the resolution requirement on the backend analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The proposed technique is also robust against multiple types of errors. A detailed analysis is presented to quantify the sensitivity improvement of the proposed technique over the conventional one. In addition, this thesis proposes …

Student Publications

Optical materials engineered to dynamically and selectively manipulate electromagnetic waves are essential to the future of modern optical systems. In this paper, we simulate various metasurface configurations consisting of periodic 1D bars or 2D pillars made of the ternary phase change material Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST). Dynamic switching behavior in reflectance is exploited due to a drastic refractive index change between the crystalline and amorphous states of GST. Selectivity in the reflection and transmission spectra is manipulated by tailoring the geometrical parameters of the metasurface. Due to the immense number of possible metasurface configurations, we train deep neural networks capable of exploring …
