Interferometry In Fmcw Radars, Assid Nait, Theodore Grosch
Interferometry In Fmcw Radars, Assid Nait, Theodore Grosch
The Kennesaw Journal of Undergraduate Research
interferometry is used in many fields using all frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum and sound waves. In this study, data was collected from an FMCW radar is used at multiple heights above a flat surface on which sat a single retroreflector. These data were post-processed to discover the signal obtained from the target and then the phase form the radar at multiple locations was compared. Using the known geometry and measured phase, we find the interferometry is possible using a freerunning radar under certain geometric conditions.

As nations are transitioning to renewable energy sources, they will need to expand and upgrade their energy infrastructure, including high-voltage power lines (HVPL). We have conducted the first nation-wide survey in the last thirty years to assess public attitudes toward HVPL in the USA. The study evaluates perceptions, knowledge, and attitudes toward building new transmission lines, as these relate to renewable energy, place attachment, and environmental impacts. Our results show that Americans do not recognize how new HVPL could help reduce greenhouse gas emissions; instead, respondents favor moving from centralized energy (large power stations and HVPL) to decentralized energy (local …

Preperitoneal Insufflation Pressure Of The Abdominal Wall In A Porcine Model, Riley E. Reynolds, Benjamin Wankum, Sean J. Crimmins, Mark A. Carlson, Benjamin S. Terry
Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering: Faculty Publications
Background Most complications and adverse events during laparoscopic surgery occur during initial entry into the peritoneal cavity. Among them, preperitoneal insufflation occurs when the insufflation needle is incorrectly placed, and the abdominal wall is insufflated. The objective of this study was to find a range for static pressure which is low enough to allow placement of a Veress needle into the peritoneal space without causing preperitoneal insufflation, yet high enough to separate abdominal viscera from the parietal peritoneum.
Methods A pressure test was performed on twelve fresh porcine carcasses to determine the minimum preperitoneal insufflation pressure and the minimum initial …

Engineers are increasingly called on to develop sustainable solutions to complex problems. Within engineering, however, economic and environmental aspects of sustainability are often priori- tized over social ones. This paper describes how efficiency and sustainability were conceptualized and interrelated by students in a newly developed second-year undergraduate engineering course, An Integrated Approach to Energy. This course took a sociotechnical approach and emphasized modern energy concepts (e.g., renewable energy), current issues (e.g., climate change), and local and personal contexts (e.g., connecting to students’ lived experiences). Analyses of student work and semi-structured interview data were used to explore how students conceptualized sustainability …

A composite is generally defined as a material composed of two or more separate sub-materials that complement each other's characteristics when combined. Composites are widely used in several major industries due to their low density, high strength, and relatively predictable chemical and electrical properties. One of the significant challenges of integrating composites into more diverse fields is the ability to accurately and consistently test for damages. Due to the myriad number of microscopic structures available in composite materials, a single-use testing system is a large contributor to current research. One approach to the non-destructive testing of composites lies in exploiting …

Pause For A Cybersecurity Cause: Assessing The Influence Of A Waiting Period On User Habituation In Mitigation Of Phishing Attacks, Amy Antonucci
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
Social engineering costs organizations billions of dollars a year. Social engineering exploits the weakest link of information security systems, the people who are using them. Phishing is a form of social engineering in which the perpetrator depends on the victim’s instinctual thinking towards an email designed to create a fear or excitement response. It is well-documented in literature that users continue to click on phishing emails costing them and their employers significant monetary resources and data loss. Training does not appear to mitigate the effects of phishing much; other solutions are necessary to mitigate phishing.
Kahneman introduced the concepts of …

An Empirical Assessment Of Users' Information Security Protection Behavior Towards Social Engineering Breaches, Nisha Jatin Patel
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
User behavior is one of the most significant information security risks. Information Security is all about being aware of who and what to trust and behaving accordingly. Due to technology becoming an integral part of nearly everything in people's daily lives, the organization's need for protection from security threats has continuously increased. Social engineering is the act of tricking a user into revealing information or taking action. One of the riskiest aspects of social engineering is that it depends mainly upon user errors and is not necessarily a technology shortcoming. User behavior should be one of the first apprehensions when …

A Study Of Factors That Influence Symbol Selection On Augmentative And Alternative Communication Devices For Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder, William Todd Dauterman
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), 1 in 59 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) each year. Given the complexity of ASD and how it is manifested in individuals, the execution of proper interventions is difficult. One major area of concern is how individuals with ASD who have limited communication skills are taught to communicate using Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices (AAC). AACs are portable electronic devices that facilitate communication by using audibles, signs, gestures, and picture symbols. Traditionally, Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) are the primary facilitators of AAC devices and help establish the language individuals with …

A Novel Design Of Current Differencing Transconductance Amplifier With Hightransconductance Gain And Enhanced Bandwidth, Shireesh Kumar Rai, Rishikesh Pandey, Bharat Garg, Sujit Patel
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this paper, transconductance gain of current differencing transconductance amplifier (CDTA) has been boosted by using a novel approach. Transconductance is generally varied by two well-known techniques. In the first technique, bias current of differential pair MOSFETs is varied whereas in the second technique, aspect ratios of differential pair MOSFETs are changed. The drawbacks of first technique are limited range of transconductance and higher power dissipation whereas second technique restricts dynamic range, output swing and bandwidth of CDTA. To overcome these drawbacks, 2 new structures of CDTA, namely high transconductance gain CDTAs (HTG-CDTA-I & HTG-CDTA-II) have been proposed. HTG-CDTA-I utilizes …

Mismatch Error Shaping Of Dac Unit Elements In Multibit $\Delta$$\Sigma$ Modulators Using A Novel Unified Adc/Dac, Leila Sharifi, Omid Hashemipour
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
This paper presents a unified analog to digital converter (ADC) and digital to analog converter (DAC) for multibit $\Delta\Sigma$ modulators. The unified ADC/DAC circuit provides error shaping for mismatches between DAC unit elements. Hence, the dynamic element matching (DEM) circuit or digital calibration is not required resulting in the area and power saving as well as the elimination of the excess loop delay introduced by DEM circuit. Incorporating a 6-bit unified ADC/DAC, the $\Delta\Sigma$ modulator achieves 16.15-bit resolution utilizing only a second order loop filter and oversampling ratio of 40. The proposed modulator is simulated in a 65-nm CMOS process. …

To guarantee quality of delivery for video streaming over software defined networks, efficient predictors and adaptive routing frameworks are required. We demonstrate an agent that predicts video quality of delivery metrics in a scalable way using a bespoke codec-aware learning model. We also demonstrate the integration of this agent with an adaptive framework for centrally controlled software-defined networks that re-configures network operational paths in response to the learning agent, ensuring that good quality of delivery of video is maintained during periods of congestion. The demo scenario highlights the feasibility, scalability and accuracy of the framework

Improvement On Cost-Performance Ratio Of Fiberglass/Carbon Fiber Hybrid Composite, Nathawat Poopakdee, Warut Thammawichai
Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
Fiberglass composite (FG) is widely used as a metal substitute in general applications due to its corrosion and chemical resistance, relatively high strength, and low cost. Still, the FG is deficient in performance and relatively heavy for airframes. Carbon fiber composite (CF) is utilized instead as it has greater performance and lower weight. However, the CF is brittle and expensive. Thus, in this work, we combine FG and CF into two types of hybrid composites to achieve a cost-effective solution with greater or comparable mechanical properties to those of CF. The first one uses FG as core and CF as …

In this study, the effects of annealing on the hardness and microstructure of 28 wt% Cr-2.6 wt% C iron with 1.4 wt% Mo/1 wt% W addition have been investigated. The as-cast samples were heated to 800℃ and held for 4 h followed by slow cooled with a cooling rate of 20℃h-1 to 500℃. Microstructures were characterized by X-ray diffractometry, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Vickers macro-hardness and micro-hardness were measured. It was found that the as-cast microstructure in the hypoeutectic 28 wt% Cr iron without Mo or W addition consisted of primary austenite dendrite, eutectic M7C3 …

In this work, WO3 thin films were prepared in two steps: First, tungsten (W) films with thickness of 100-300 nm were deposited by DC magnetron sputtering with oblique angle deposition (OAD) technique at 0 and 85. Second, sputtered W films were annealed under air atmosphere at a temperature of 500℃ and different oxidation times for 1-3 h. The structure of WO3 thin films were examined by X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscope. In addition, the optical and electrochromic properties of the WO3 thin films were measured by a spectrophotometer before and after testing in potassium hydroxide electrolytes. The …
