The Research And Implementation Of Film Virtual Photography Harware-In-The-Loop Simulation, Baihong Lu, Jianjun Zhao, Gesan Liu
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Film virtual photography is an important part of the film virtual Previs. Aiming at the problems of high cost, poor user experience, and bad simulation of existing virtual photography, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation system for film virtual photography is proposed. It uses a hardware-in-the-loop simulation virtual photography module that is consistent with the operation method of the film creator in real shooting for virtual photography, which solves the problems of difficult virtual photography operations and not in line with the real operating habits in the past. It provides a virtual photography method that is more in line with movie …

Two-Point Joint Cpa Attacks Against Aes And Its Simulation, Tong Yu, Jingwen Cai
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Aiming at the problems of large sampling amount and low utilization rate of attack information in single-point power analysis attack, a method of two-point joint power analysis attack for AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) is proposed. This method selects two power leakage points for power analysis according to the correlation between the power leakage points and the key in the AES. By constructing a power leakage model of intermediate variables, an intermediate value joint function is established which means, the method can be used to recover the key of AES. The simulation results demonstrate that the attack time of …

Passenger Flow Sensitivity Analysis Of Evacuation Time For Standard Subway Station, Guoao Zhang, Ma Si, Wang Lin
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Underground two-level island platform stations widely existed in urban rail transit system. In order to analyze the relationship between the evacuation time and the character of passenger flow, the capacity of main evacuation facilities and the evacuation bottleneck of stations are studied, and groups of sensitivity analysis experiment are designed. The variability of the evacuation process is analyzed by comparing the output of each simulation model in a group and between groups. The simulation result shows that the station evacuation time increases within a certain limit at peak hour. And the station evacuation time is mainly affected by the …
Analysis Of Time-Dependent Adaptations Of Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Morphology During Standing-Induced Symptoms Of Low Back Pain, Donald Aboytes
Analysis Of Time-Dependent Adaptations Of Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Morphology During Standing-Induced Symptoms Of Low Back Pain, Donald Aboytes
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
Low back pain (LBP) is a traumatic impairment for individuals with staggering socioeconomic burden. The etiology of LBP is exceedingly complex and confounded by comorbidities. The source of pain is difficult to pin-point because the offending stimuli are not always known. One promising avenue is to investigate the progression of LBP symptoms in young and otherwise healthy individuals. The population that exhibits preclinical LBP in prolonged standing may be particularly suitable for understanding the anatomical changes that occur during the progression of the symptoms. Since the pain symptoms subside upon exiting the standing position, they are an ideal demographic to …

Flow Characterization In Mine Ventilation Fan Blade Design Using Cfd, Anwar Endris Hassen
Journal of Sustainable Mining
In axial ventilation fans, the generation of a uniform flow velocity is desirable for better efficiency. To that end, different fan blade types have been developed to achieve better flow uniformity. This article aimed to characterize the flow distribution and its uniformity in four blade designs, namely constant chord, tapered blade, skewed blade, and tapered skewed blade, using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The study employs an iterative study where key study decisions are made as the study progresses. The study began with the selection of a blade profile for the study. A comparative study between the NACA seven-digit and four-digit …

Optimization Of Corrugated Bulkhead Forms By Genetic Algorithm, Joe-Ming Yang, Cheng-Neng Hwang
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
In this research, the optimal design of corrugated bulkheads being used in ship structures is explored by means of the state-of-theart genetic algorithms. The influences of genetic parameters, such as population sizes, crossover probability and mutation probability, on the optimal design of corrugated bulkheads are carefully examined. An objective function defined for the cost of materials and labors is to be minimized to attain the least cost of panel production. The obtained optimal values of each design variable must satisfy the predescribed constraints and some restrictions on fabrication. The optimal values of minimum weight and minimum cost of a panel …

The ability of aerosol particles to uptake water (hygroscopic growth) is an important determinant of aerosol optical properties and radiative effects. Aerosol hygroscopic growth is traditionally measured by humidified tandem differential mobility analyzers (HTDMA), in which size-selected dry particles are exposed to elevated relative humidity (RH), and the size distribution of humidified particles is subsequently measured using a scanning mobility particle sizer. As a scanning mobility particle sizer can measure only one particle size at a time, HTDMA measurements are time consuming, and ambient measurements are often limited to a single RH level. Pinterich et al. (2017b) showed that fast …

Acoustic tweezers use ultrasound for contact-free, bio-compatible, and precise manipulation of particles from millimeter to submicrometer scale. In microfluidics, acoustic tweezers typically use an array of sources to create standing wave patterns that can trap and move objects in ways constrained by the limited complexity of the acoustic wave field. Here, we demonstrate spatially complex particle trapping and manipulation inside a boundary-free chamber using a single pair of sources and an engineered structure outside the chamber that we call a shadow waveguide. The shadow waveguide creates a tightly confined, spatially complex acoustic field inside the chamber without requiring any interior …

With massive data being generated daily and the ever-increasing interconnectivity of the world’s Internet infrastructures, a machine learning based intrusion detection system (IDS) has become a vital component to protect our economic and national security. In this paper, we perform a comprehensive study on NSL-KDD, a network traffic dataset, by visualizing patterns and employing different learning-based models to detect cyber attacks. Unlike previous shallow learning and deep learning models that use the single learning model approach for intrusion detection, we adopt a hierarchy strategy, in which the intrusion and normal behavior are classified firstly, and then the specific types of …

The challenges faced with current fluorescence imaging agents have motivated us to study two nanostructures based on a hydrophobic dye, 6H-pyrrolo[3,2-b:4,5-b’]bis [1,4]benzothiazine (TRPZ). TRPZ is a heteroacene with a rigid, pi-conjugated structure, multiple reactive sites, and unique spectroscopic properties. Here we coupled TRPZ to a tert-butyl carbamate (BOC) protected 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propanoic acid (bisMPA) dendron via azide-alkyne Huisgen cycloaddition. Deprotection of the protected amine groups on the dendron afforded a cationic terminated amphiphile, TRPZ-bisMPA. TRPZ-bisMPA was nanoprecipitated into water to obtain nanoparticles (NPs) with a hydrodynamic radius that was comparison, TRPZ-PG was encapsulated in pluronic-F127 (Mw = 12 kD), a polymer surfactant …

A hallmark of human locomotion is that it continuously adapts to changes in the environment and predictively adjusts to changes in the terrain, both of which are major challenges to lower limb amputees due to the limitations in prostheses and control algorithms. Here, the ability of a single-network nonlinear autoregressive model to continuously predict future ankle kinematics and kinetics simultaneously across ambulation conditions using lower limb surface electromyography (EMG) signals was examined. Ankle plantarflexor and dorsiflexor EMG from ten healthy young adults were mapped to normal ranges of ankle angle and ankle moment during level overground walking, stair ascent, and …

Current methods for artifact analysis and understanding depend on investigator expertise. Experienced and technically savvy examiners spend a lot of time reverse engineering applications while attempting to find crumbs they leave behind on systems. This takes away valuable time from the investigative process, and slows down forensic examination. Furthermore, when specific artifact knowledge is gained, it stays within the respective forensic units. To combat these challenges, we present ForensicAF, an approach for leveraging curated, crowd-sourced artifacts from the Artifact Genome Project (AGP). The approach has the overarching goal of uncovering forensically relevant artifacts from storage media. We explain our approach …

Exosomes are cell-derived nanovesicles that have recently gained popularity as potential biomarkers in liquid biopsies due to the large amounts of molecular cargo they carry, such as nucleic acids and proteins. However, most existing exosome-based analytical sensing methods struggle to achieve high sensitivity and high selectivity simultaneously. In this work, we present an electrochemical micro-aptasensor for the highly sensitive detection of exosomes by integrating a micropatterned electrochemical aptasensor and a hybridization chain reaction (HCR) signal amplification method. Specifically, exosomes are enriched on CD63 aptamer-functionalized electrodes and then recognized by HCR products with avidin-horseradish peroxidase (HRP) attached using EpCAM aptamers as …

Machine learning (ML) is vital to many application-driven fields, such as image and signal classification, cyber-security, and health sciences. Unfortunately, many of these fields can easily have their training data tampered with by an adversary to thwart an ML algorithm’s objective. Further, the adversary can impact any stage in an ML pipeline (e.g., preprocessing, learning, and classification). Recent work has shown that many models can be attacked by poisoning the training data, and the impact of the poisoned data can be quite significant. Prior works on adversarial feature selection have shown that the attacks can damage feature selection (FS). Filter …
Automated Statistical Structural Testing Techniques And Applications, Yang Shi
Automated Statistical Structural Testing Techniques And Applications, Yang Shi
Dissertations and Theses
Statistical structural testing(SST) is an effective testing technique that produces random test inputs from probability distributions. SST shows superiority in fault-revealing power over random testing and deterministic approaches since it heritages the merits from both of them. SST ensures testing thoroughness by setting up a probability lower-bound criterion for each structural cover element and test inputs that exercise a structural cover element sampled from the probability distribution, ensuring testing randomness. Despite the advantages, SST is not a widely used approach in practice. There are two major limitations. First, to construct probability distributions, a tester must understand the underlying software's structure, …

The Effect Of A Ferrite-Core Relay Vs. An Air-Core Relay On The Output Power Characteristics Of A Three-Coil Wireless Power Transfer System, Jakob L. White
University Honors Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to determine the effect of using a ferrite-core relay on the output power characteristics of a three-coil, parallel-tuned, domino-resonator wireless power transfer (WPT) system in comparison to the effect of using an air-core relay in such a system. First, a general mathematical model is presented to describe both the ferrite-core-relay system and the air-core-relay system and to calculate their output power characteristics for seven different resistive loads at each of five different distance configurations between the coils. Next, experimental results are analyzed and compared to the mathematical results to confirm model accuracy. Finally, the …

Electromyography (EMG) is a simple, non-invasive, and cost-effective technology for measuring muscle activity. However, multi-muscle EMG is also a noisy, complex, and high-dimensional signal. It has nevertheless been widely used in a host of human-machine-interface applications (electrical wheelchairs, virtual computer mice, prosthesis, robotic fingers, etc.) and, in particular, to measure the reach-and-grasp motions of the human hand. Here, we developed an automated pipeline to predict object weight in a reach-grasp-lift task from an open dataset, relying only on EMG data. In doing so, we shifted the focus from manual feature-engineering to automated feature-extraction by using pre-processed EMG signals and thus …

The processes underlying formation and growth of unfolded protein inclusions are relevant to neurodegenerative diseases but poorly characterized in living cells. In S. cerevisiae, inclusions formed by mutant huntingtin (mHtt) have some characteristics of biomolecular condensates but the physical nature and growth mechanisms of inclusion bodies remain unclear. We have probed the relationship between concentration and inclusion growth in vivo and find that growth of mHtt inclusions in living cells is triggered at a cytoplasmic threshold concentration, while reduction in cytoplasmic mHtt causes inclusions to shrink. The growth rate is consistent with incorporation of new material through collision and coalescence. …

The dry deposition process refers to flux loss of an atmospheric pollutant due to uptake of the pollutant by the Earth's surfaces, including vegetation, underlying soil, and any other surface types. In chemistry transport models (CTMs), the dry deposition flux of a chemical species is typically calculated as the product of its surface layer concentration and its dry deposition velocity (Vd); the latter is a variable that needs to be highly empirically parameterized due to too many meteorological, biological, and chemical factors affecting this process. The gaseous dry deposition scheme of Zhang et al. (2003) parameterizes Vd for 31 inorganic …

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is routinely used for brain tumor diagnosis, treatment planning, and post-treatment surveillance. Recently, various models based on deep neural networks have been proposed for the pixel-level segmentation of tumors in brain MRIs. However, the structural variations, spatial dissimilarities, and intensity inhomogeneity in MRIs make segmentation a challenging task. We propose a new end-to-end brain tumor segmentation architecture based on U-Net that integrates Inception modules and dilated convolutions into its contracting and expanding paths. This allows us to extract local structural as well as global contextual information. We performed segmentation of glioma sub-regions, including tumor core, enhancing …

Understanding And Improving Adult Stem Cells For Cartilage Tissue Engineering, Dakota Katz
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
Articular cartilage allows for near frictionless joint movement; however, when damaged the tissue has very little capacity for self-repair. Tissue engineering can be used to both repair damaged articular cartilage and as an in vitro model for joint disease. Commonly used cell sources for tissue engineering are adipose-derived and bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs and MSCs) because they can be patient matched, expand rapidly in culture, and have multipotent differentiation potential. However, donor-to-donor variability of differentiation potential can mask the results of in vitro experiments and ASCs and MSCs only retain their multipotency for a limited number of passages. …

A fundamental research question in neuroscience pertains to understanding how neural networks through their activity encode and decode information. In this research, we build on methods from theoretical domains such as control theory, dynamical systems analysis and reinforcement learning to investigate such questions. Our objective is two-fold: first, to use methods from engineering to identify specific objectives that neural circuits might be optimizing through their spatiotemporal activity patterns, and second, to draw motivation from neuroscience to formulate new engineering principles such as synthesis of dynamical networks for decentralized control applications. We specifically take a top-down, optimization driven approach in our …
