Synthesis Methodologies For Robust And Reconfigurable Clock Networks, Necati Uysal
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
In today's aggressively scaled technology nodes, billions of transistors are packaged into a single integrated circuit. Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools are needed to automatically assemble the transistors into a functioning system. One of the most important design steps in the physical synthesis is the design of the clock network. The clock network delivers a synchronizing clock signal to each sequential element. The clock signal is required to be delivered meeting timing constraints under variations and in multiple operating modes. Synthesizing such clock networks is becoming increasingly difficult with the complex power management methodologies and severe manufacturing variations. Clock network …

Drone Location And Scheduling Problems In Humanitarian Logistics., Zabih Ghelichi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly referred to as drones, are a promising technology for the last-mile delivery of medical and aid items in humanitarian logistics. In emergency scenarios, like disasters, where transportation networks are destroyed and people are stranded, drones can accelerate the delivery of urgently needed items, e.g., food and water, insulin shots and blood pressure pills, to those trapped in the disaster-affected areas. Drones can also provide logistics services in many non-emergency situations by delivering medical items, e.g., vaccine shots and lab specimens, to remote communities and hard-to-access locations. The contribution of using UAVs goes beyond merely having …

Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Oxide heterostructures have drawn great attention lately, due to their environment-friendly properties and potential applications in optoelectronic devices. In this work, a simulation study of a heterojunction solar cell was performed with SCAPS (a solar cell simulator) using TiO2 as an n-type and CuO as a p-type layer. The thickness and the dopant-dependent simulations have shown that the solar cell operates at a maximum efficiency of 19.2% when the thickness of the TiO2/CuO layers is chosen 1.4µm/1.2µm compared to the 11.5% efficiency when FTO is replaced with ITO. An indium-doped tin oxide (ITO) vs fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) comparison study …

Pulsed Laser Annealing On The Optoelectronic Properties Of Zno Thin Films, Md Abu Zobair
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
ZnO thin films have attracted great attention recently due to their unique electronic and optical properties. However, for proper implementation of ZnO in electronic devices it is necessary to understand the role of native point defects present inside the material as these wide bandgap semiconductors are inherently n-type due to oxygen vacancies. The objective is to control the electronic and optical properties of ZnO thin films through pulsed laser annealing (PLA). Thin films of ZnO have been grown on different substrates using pulsed laser deposition. Then PLA of the films are done by changing laser parameters (energy, frequency, pulse width, …
Structure And Kinetics Of Twin Boundaries In Shape Memory Alloys, Bibek Jung Karki
Structure And Kinetics Of Twin Boundaries In Shape Memory Alloys, Bibek Jung Karki
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are functional materials that recover from large strains without permanent deformation. In magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs), the reversible deformation is driven either magnetically or mechanically. Two underlying phenomena are responsible for the shape memory effect: (a) a diffusionless, martensitic transformation and (b) twinning in the martensite phase.
In MSMAs, the reversible plastic deformation occurs via twinning in the martensite phase, particularly via the movement of twinning disconnections (TDs) along the twin boundaries (TBs). A geometric algorithm called the classical model (CM) of deformation twinning describes operative twinning modes of a given crystal system. There are …

Relating The Dongre Workability Test To Cold In-Place Recycled Asphalt Pavements, Gus Williams
Civil Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
The Dongre Workability Test (DWT) is a test for determining an asphalt pavement’s relative workability from the stress-strain curve of a sample. While the DWT has seen favorable results with warm mix and hot mix asphalt, Casillas and Braham (2020) attempted to apply this test to cold in-place recycled (CIR) asphalt pavements with limited results. This paper looked at the process of reexamining the DWT method to more favorable results with CIR samples. Phase 1 consisted of defining ten possible metrics from the stress-strain curve and applying them to samples with three different curing conditions. From these preliminary results, the …

A Comparative Study On The Application Of Intelligent Algorithms As The Solution Of Inverse Heat Conduction Problems, Dominic Allard
Theses and Dissertations
A critical component necessary for the safety and survival of space vehicles are the thermal protection systems (TPS). Especially when subject to atmospheric re-entry, the heating loads subject to the space vehicle requires the implementation of extensive protection. The TPS commonly used currently are passive ablative materials which burn away under extreme heat flux. Due to the nature of the material and the incident heat flux, it is not feasible to attain accurate, real-time measurements for the boundary conditions with sensors placed on the surface of the space vehicle. The ability to do such would allow opportunities to implement active …

When confined within containers or conduits, drops and bubbles migrate to regions of minimum energy by the combined effects of surface tension, surface wetting, system geometry, and initial conditions. Such capillary phenomena are exploited for passive phase separation operations in micro-fluidic devices on earth and macro-fluidic devices aboard spacecraft. Our study focuses on the migration and ejection of large inertial-capillary drops confined between tilted planar hydrophobic substrates (a.k.a., wedges). In our experiments, the brief nearly weightless environment of a 2.1 s drop tower allows for the study of such capillary dominated behavior for up to 10 mL water drops with …

Chemistry and Biochemistry Faculty Research
The inelastic background of hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy data is analyzed to paint a depth-resolved picture of the CdS/Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CdS/CIGSe) layer structure. The CdS/CIGSe interface is the central component in next-generation chalcopyrite thin-film photovoltaic devices. By analyzing both, the (unscattered) core-level peaks and the inelastic background, and by varying the excitation photon energy from 2.1 up to 14 keV, we can derive photoemission information over a broad range of electron kinetic energies and, hence, sampling depths. With this complementary information, the CdS film thickness of a CdS/CIGSe interface can be accurately determined as a function of the CdS deposition time. …
